Naruto: Starting with Snatching the Mangekyō Sharingan

Chapter 189: Chapter 189: The Great Toad Sage

Even now, transplanting Hashirama's cells into ordinary people remains a monumental challenge.

It could be said that for a normal person, attempting the procedure is akin to signing their death warrant. Only individuals with exceptionally strong spiritual energy stand a chance of surviving such a transplantation.

Currently, the process is not universally applicable.

If incorporating the pseudo-Divine Tree's genes were straightforward, its significance would be revolutionary. Konoha's overall power would ascend to yet another level.

"Let's see what's really going on," Akira declared, striding ahead toward the office and making his way to ShinTen Biotech.

The moment he arrived, Tsunade's voice echoed through the room:

"Fifth Hokage, where did you get these fleshy chunks sprouting tiny trees? Transplanting them grants people the ability to use Wood Release!"

With her expertise, Tsunade immediately recognized that the wooden flesh-like fragments were not part of her grandfather Hashirama's body but rather some other unknown biological tissue.

"Tsunade-sama, these tree-like flesh pieces are actually from the body of the Gedo Statue," Akira explained.

"The Gedo Statue!" Tsunade exclaimed, realization dawning.

If it came from that thing, possessing Wood Release wasn't surprising in the least.

Soon, under Tsunade's guidance, Akira was led to a massive cage holding a monkey inside.

The monkey, a summoning beast from Iwagakure, had been captured and turned into a test subject.

Beside the monkey, a vibrant green sapling about half a person tall had broken through the laboratory's reinforced floor and was thriving.

Tsunade glanced at the monkey in the cage and ordered, "Show us your Wood Release."

Over time, the monkey had been subdued and trained to obey. Hearing Tsunade's command, it immediately placed its hand on the ground.

Its use of Wood Release was more instinctive than through the traditional hand-seal techniques.

Crack... crack... crack...

The solid floor split apart, and a small sapling sprouted from the crevice. In just a few blinks, it had grown into a tree about as tall as a person.

"It's weak, but there's no denying that it's Wood Release," Akira confirmed with a nod.

"Of course, it's Wood Release! It's my grandfather's kekkei genkai—there's no way I'd mistake it," Tsunade retorted confidently.

"Besides Wood Release, has this summoning beast undergone any other changes?" Akira asked, turning to the group.

"I'll explain," Tsunade stepped forward. "Other than gaining Wood Release, the most notable change is its chakra levels—they've increased by about 30%. That's no small boost."

"A 30% increase in chakra?" Akira was taken aback.

Transplanting Hashirama's cells also increased chakra levels, but never to this extent. Based on his observations, when Uchiha Fugaku, Uchiha Shisui, and himself had undergone the procedure, their chakra levels had only risen by about 20%.

'Directly-derived Divine Tree Wood Release is indeed stronger than Hashirama's,' Akira thought to himself.

"That's right—around 30%," Tsunade confirmed.

"Then recruit volunteers. If this technology can be spread, it should be," Akira declared firmly.

"I'll arrange it immediately and aim for prompt results," Tsunade replied in kind.

She wasn't opposed to the idea—this new Wood Release didn't involve using her grandfather's cells. For Konoha, the stronger the village became, the better.

...

Time passed swiftly, and a month later...

Deep within Mount Myōboku, in a grand hall, the Great Toad Sage, who had been slumbering for years, finally opened his eyes.

"The future is chaos. The original path has been completely altered. War and destruction engulf the Shinobi World... The Ten-Tails Jinchūriki has reappeared... and the Child of Prophecy is among them..." the Great Toad Sage murmured.

The sage was unique, able to glimpse fragments of the future and deliver prophecies.

"What has transpired in the Shinobi World during my slumber to bring such drastic changes to the future?" The old sage's face was filled with puzzlement.

Soon, after his summons, Shima and Fukasaku, accompanied by a recuperated Jiraiya, arrived at the hall.

"Great Sage!" Jiraiya greeted respectfully.

"Old geezer, out of booze again, huh?" Shima quipped bluntly.

"Be respectful to the Great Sage!" Fukasaku reprimanded her.

Shima shot him a glare. "Great Sage, my foot! He's just a senile old coot who sleeps all day and spouts nonsense."

The Great Toad Sage didn't seem offended. Instead, he chuckled.

"While it's true I'm out of sake, that's not why I summoned you."

"Then why?" Shima asked skeptically.

In her experience, the Great Toad Sage either drank or babbled about dreams.

"The future has changed. Blood and fire now shroud the Shinobi World. The Child of Prophecy can no longer steer its destiny..." the sage sighed deeply.

Jiraiya fell silent before finally asking, "Great Sage, does this mean not even the true Child of Prophecy can alter the Shinobi World's fate? Is it doomed to endless war?"

The sage squinted at Jiraiya, confusion flickering in his ancient eyes.

"Old geezer, that's Jiraiya!" Shima bellowed, recognizing the signs of senility.

"Oh, it's you, Jiraiya!" the sage finally realized. "As for your question, I can't give you an answer. My glimpses of the future are fragmented. Perhaps I only saw a moment when war was raging."

"Enough! Stop worrying about the future. Mount Myōboku is neutral. Let humans handle their own problems. Don't meddle with 'Children of Prophecy' nonsense—just fix what's in front of you!" Shima crossed her arms, clearly annoyed.

To her, Mount Myōboku's role as a neutral haven for summoning creatures was enough. Contract summoners could call for help, but meddling too much in human affairs would invite trouble.

"Lady Shima, the Great Sage only wishes for peace," Jiraiya said softly.

"Peace?" Shima scoffed. "Since intelligent life first existed, so has war. There's no such thing as peace—only balance and deterrence. That's true for both humans and summoning beasts."

Looking at Jiraiya, she added earnestly, "Jiraiya, you've lived long enough to know this."

Jiraiya lowered his head, unable to reply.
