Chapter 140: Chapter 140: Princess Sara's Determination

Sara's world unraveled the moment she tumbled from the balcony.

First, she was rescued by strange ninjas who revealed that her trusted minister was a treacherous rebel. Then, they told her the once-thriving nation her mother had entrusted to her had fallen to ruin over the past 20 years. Now, her own people accused her of ordering their husbands and brothers to be taken away, never to return.

Although Sara was a princess preparing to ascend the throne, she had always relied on her ministers to help govern Rouran. She treated every citizen with care and sincerity, like a mother to her children. She could never have imagined issuing such a cruel policy of "recruiting adult male citizens."

"I never gave such an order!" Sara exclaimed, her voice trembling with desperation.

But when she looked into Mako's tearful, determined eyes, doubt gripped her heart. The world she thought she knew felt like a carefully constructed lie.

"Could the Konoha ninjas be right?" she wondered, her thoughts racing.

Unwilling to believe it, she pressed on. "But didn't so many people attend today's celebration? Everyone seemed so happy."

"That's impossible!" a chubby child behind Mako shouted. "No one attends those celebrations. No one can."

Sara's heart sank as TenTen's earlier words echoed in her mind: the crowd she had seen was made of puppets, not real people.

Shattered Illusions

Boom! Boom! Boom!

A series of fireworks lit up the sky as the puppets below began their "celebration" again. Their hollow cheers reverberated through the corridor where Sara stood, their artificial joy mocking her anguish.

Through the window, Sara gazed at the bustling scene below with a mix of disbelief and dread. Determined to uncover the truth, she took a step toward the window.

Kirito, standing behind her, spoke gently. "It's too dangerous for you to go out there. Let me bring one of them to you."

With a swift motion, Kirito extended his hand and released a precise Eight Trigrams Empty Palm, severing the chakra thread controlling one of the puppets. Then, vines sprouted from his hand, pulling the lifeless figure into the corridor.

Sara stared at the wooden puppet before her. Its empty eyes and crude construction shattered any lingering hope she had in Anrokuzan's innocence.

"A long time ago," the chubby child muttered, "everyone called you the 'Puppet Princess.'"

As if to confirm the cruel moniker, a puppet resembling Sara herself appeared on a distant balcony, waving to the crowd below, mimicking her gestures.

Sara broke down, overwhelmed by the betrayal. What terrible deeds had Anrokuzan committed in her name?

A Princess's Resolve

Unable to bear the weight of the truth, Sara fled, her mind reeling. TenTen watched her run, worry etched on her face.

"What do we do now?" TenTen asked Kirito.

"Protect her," Kirito replied calmly. "Give her time to process it."

Though composed, Kirito's own thoughts churned. Sara's despair reminded him of his own struggles—uncertainty, betrayal, and the search for purpose.

A New Determination

Eventually, they found Sara sitting on a step in a deserted alley, quietly crying. TenTen handed her a handkerchief, murmuring words of comfort as she wiped away Sara's tears.

"Things aren't as hopeless as they seem," Kirito said gently. "You're not alone. We can help you reclaim your country."

Sara's voice trembled. "But Rouran… the city my mother entrusted to me… it's already doomed."

Kirito knelt to meet her gaze. "It's not your fault. Sometimes, destruction is inevitable."

Confused, Sara asked, "What do you mean?"

Kirito explained, "Chakra doesn't appear out of nowhere. It requires energy from life itself. The 'infinite chakra' of the Dragon Vein likely consumes the environment's vitality. Over time, it's been draining Rouran dry. Even if you'd done nothing, the land would still have become uninhabitable."

Sara stared at him, stunned. The desolation of her kingdom wasn't due to her failure—it was the inevitable cost of the Dragon Vein's existence.

"So… what should I do now?" Sara asked, her voice heavy with despair.

Kirito offered her a choice. "You can turn away and let Anrokuzan continue, since the land is doomed anyway. Or you can take back Rouran, take responsibility, and lead your people through the challenges ahead."

Sara thought of her mother, whose strength and compassion had been her guiding light. Her fists clenched with determination. "My mother entrusted Rouran to me. I won't abandon it. I'll fight for it."

"Well said!" TenTen exclaimed, delighted by Sara's resolve.

Sara bowed deeply to Kirito and TenTen. "Thank you. I'll never forget your kindness."

Kirito nodded. "Now that you're ready, here's a tip: Anrokuzan controls the puppets by channeling the Dragon Vein's chakra through the city's pipelines."

He gestured toward the massive pipelines crisscrossing the city. "Those pipes were Anrokuzan's way of spreading chakra under the guise of helping the people."

Sara's eyes widened with realization. "He told my mother the pipelines would distribute energy to improve everyone's lives… He's been planning this betrayal all along."

TenTen frowned. "If he's using the Dragon Vein to control the puppets, shouldn't we cut off the source? But with such a complex network, how do we find it?"

Sara stood tall, her confidence restored. "Every queen of Rouran has the ability to sense and seal the Dragon Vein's chakra. If it's still within the city, I'll find it."

Guided by Sara's innate ability, they navigated through the labyrinth of towers and pipelines until they reached a towering structure resembling a massive chimney.

"This is it," Sara declared. "The main hub Anrokuzan uses to control the puppets."
