Chapter 141: Chapter 141: Closing the Dragon Vein
Led by Sara, the group arrived at the central hub where the city's pipelines converged. These pipelines channeled the chakra of the Dragon Vein, stretching outward like a massive web and disappearing into the towers above.
"If we head down from here, we should be able to follow the exhaust passage to the Dragon Vein's hub underground," Sara explained, crouching beside a vent embedded in the ground.
The structures above the Dragon Vein were nothing more than decoys, their purpose purely to disguise the hub's location. These buildings masked the vast network of pipelines feeding off the vein's chakra.
"This hub wasn't part of the original design," Sara continued. "My mother built it to help regulate the Dragon Vein's energy. But Anrokuzan corrupted it to draw power for his puppets."
"Will we find my brother and the others down there?" a hopeful child from Mako's group asked.
Sara smiled gently. "Yes, we'll bring everyone back. But it's dangerous below, so please stay here and wait for us."
Understanding the risks, Mako and her group nodded reluctantly. "We're counting on you. Please, bring them back safely."
Descending into the Underground Hub
After removing the vent cover, TenTen leapt down first, followed by Sara. Kirito brought up the rear, though his larger frame made the descent awkward.
"This place wasn't designed for someone your size," TenTen teased, grinning over her shoulder.
Sara, attempting to console him, added, "We're almost there, Mr. Kirito. Just a little longer."
They navigated the narrow, winding passages until Sara paused and pointed ahead. "The Dragon Vein is close. We can descend further through that gap."
"Kirito, use your Byakugan to check for enemies," TenTen suggested.
Activating his Byakugan, Kirito scanned the area. "There are patrolling puppets, but they're moving away from us. We're clear to proceed."
TenTen removed the next vent cover and slipped through, Sara close behind. Kirito hesitated at the edge of the opening, eyeing its narrow confines.
With a resigned sigh, he gripped the edges of the vent and, with a metallic groan, widened the gap before jumping through.
"I thought you'd try squeezing through," TenTen teased.
Kirito reached out toward her cheek with a dusty hand, prompting TenTen to duck away, laughing. "Don't even think about it!"
Watching their playful exchange, Sara smiled. "You two seem so close."
TenTen shrugged. "This mission was supposed to be straightforward. I didn't expect to end up in a time-traveling adventure."
"Don't worry about Anrokuzan," Kirito reassured her, rinsing his hands with a quick Water Style jutsu. "We'll take care of him and end this."
The Truth Beneath the City
Guided by Sara's chakra-sensing abilities and Kirito's Byakugan, the group reached a massive underground chamber. The room was dense with steam, and dozens of ragged individuals struggled to turn colossal gears, their faces etched with pain and exhaustion. Along one wall, clay puppets were being assembled on an unceasing mechanical line.
Hiding in the shadows, Sara's expression darkened with anger and sorrow. "How could Anrokuzan stoop to this?"
"We need to shut down the hub powering those puppets," TenTen said, gripping her Thunder Blades. "Kirito and I will hold off the enemies. Sara, you focus on disabling the core."
Sara nodded resolutely and sprinted toward the Dragon Vein's central node as patrolling puppets detected her and charged.
Zzzap! Lightning crackled as TenTen struck down the advancing puppets, her Thunder Blades cutting through them with precision.
"I need to come up with better techniques for large groups," TenTen muttered as more puppets swarmed.
Several puppets halted their advance, their mouths glowing ominously as they prepared to fire chakra blasts. Before they could release their attacks, massive cubes of iron sand descended, crushing them instantly.
"In a place like this, Magnetic Release is invaluable," Kirito said calmly, manipulating the iron sand extracted from the surrounding environment. "The resources are limitless."
With the path cleared, Sara reached the core—a device inscribed with glowing seals. Placing her hands on the seals, she began chanting the incantation to deactivate the Dragon Vein.
As her voice echoed through the chamber, the seals grew brighter, shrinking with each word. Finally, they vanished entirely, and the chakra flowing through the pipelines stilled. The factory ground to a halt.
The enslaved workers collapsed, their expressions a mix of relief and exhaustion. Though they didn't fully understand what had happened, they savored their newfound freedom.
Sara let out a sigh of relief. "It's over… Anrokuzan's plan has failed."
Anrokuzan's Arrival
Before Sara could celebrate, a chilling voice echoed from above.
"I didn't expect you mice to make it this far," sneered Anrokuzan as his shadow loomed over the chamber.
Sara turned, her resolve hardening. "Anrokuzan… you won't get away with this!"
