Chapter 166: Chapter 166: Rescue Sage Jiraiya
"Phew…"
Seeing the Chibaku Tensei successfully sealing Jiraiya, Pain let out a sigh of relief.
Without the cooperation of the Six Paths of Pain, relying solely on the Deva Path had its limitations. Especially once Jiraiya identified and exploited the weakness of Shinra Tensei, the Deva Path was no longer his match.
"However, there's still one more person who needs to be dealt with."
Pain shifted his gaze to a figure not far away, standing amidst the massive boulders floating in mid-air.
At this moment, Kirito's disguise had completely dissipated. His silver-white hair, pale skin, and white pupils stood in stark contrast to his surroundings. Calm and composed, he stood firm as rocks floated around him.
"This doesn't seem like an ordinary member of the Hyuga Clan…"
According to Pain's intelligence, Kirito had been exiled from the Hyuga Clan due to his unusual appearance and rebellious nature. As a result, he became the only Hyuga without the clan's surname.
Unfortunately, despite his exile, Kirito had chosen to remain in Konoha. Otherwise, the Akatsuki might have considered recruiting him as a powerful reconnaissance ninja.
"Let's seal him alongside Jiraiya in the Chibaku Tensei."
The Deva Path amplified the gravitational force of the Chibaku Tensei. The already strong pull intensified further, drawing more rocks and debris into the sky as the sphere continued to grow.
[It's now or never. He can't hold on much longer.]
Through his Byakugan, Kirito observed Jiraiya sealed within the massive sphere. To his surprise, the two toad sages hadn't dispelled their summoning and returned to Mount Myoboku. Instead, they remained by Jiraiya's side, working tirelessly to maintain his Sage Mode, which was the only thing keeping him alive.
Taking a deep breath, Kirito transformed into a golden beam of light and shot towards the Deva Path, who was channeling chakra into the Chibaku Tensei.
"Shinra Tensei!" The Deva Path, prepared for the attack, immediately unleashed a repulsive wave.
Snap! Under the immense force of Shinra Tensei, Kirito's body shattered into countless crystalline ice fragments, scattering into the air.
"He disappeared?"
The Deva Path felt uneasy and instinctively searched for Kirito using his Rinnegan.
"Behind you."
Pfft! Before the Deva Path could turn, Kirito's voice echoed behind him, followed by a sharp black rod piercing through his chest, emerging from his heart.
Kirito stood firm, holding the black rod while ice crystals condensed around him, covering his skin and solidifying his form.
Even though he was fatally injured, the Deva Path, being a lifeless puppet, felt no pain. He attempted to retaliate, but as he reached for his own black rod, an overwhelming chakra surged from the weapon impaled in him. This disrupted the chakra flow within his body, rendering him helpless.
"This chakra…?" The Deva Path muttered, his hands trembling uncontrollably. Before he could finish speaking, he collapsed like a puppet with severed strings.
After incapacitating the Deva Path, Kirito used his chakra senses to trace the connection of the black rods back to Nagato.
[On top of that tower? He even set up a barrier to prevent detection.]
Kirito hadn't initially noticed Nagato's location. Both he and Jiraiya had moved away from the tower during their battles. Without the chakra trail emanating from the Deva Path, pinpointing Nagato's location would have been impossible.
[I'll deal with him later. First, I need to rescue Master Jiraiya.]
Determined, Kirito leaped onto the massive sphere of the Chibaku Tensei. Squatting down, he placed his palms on its cracked surface.
"Wood Release: Advent of a World of Flowering Trees!"
In the original timeline, Naruto, Killer Bee, and Itachi had destroyed the Chibaku Tensei by targeting its core. However, Kirito couldn't afford such destructive tactics here—his priority was to ensure Jiraiya's safety.
The sphere trembled as countless thick vines emerged, smashing through layers of rock and debris. Kirito tightened his grip and pulled Jiraiya, who was encased in vines, out of the dense rock formation.
"Cough, cough—"
As Jiraiya was freed, the two toad sages on his shoulders gasped for air.
"We… we're saved," Shima exclaimed with relief.
"Good thing Tsunade's student was with us," Fukasaku said weakly. "I knew he'd come through…"
Despite their exhaustion, the toad sages had stayed with Jiraiya, using all their strength to maintain his Sage Mode until reinforcements arrived. Their gamble had paid off—Kirito had succeeded in rescuing them.
As the gravitational force of the Chibaku Tensei dissipated, the massive sphere began to crumble, raining debris across the battlefield. Carrying the unconscious Jiraiya on his back, Kirito retreated with the toad sages to a safe location.
From a nearby hillside, Shima and Fukasaku watched the sphere disintegrate.
"So this is the power of the Rinnegan… it's terrifying," Shima murmured.
"Thankfully, Jiraiya had someone like you with him," Fukasaku said. "Otherwise, knowing him, he would've sacrificed himself here."
Shima glanced at Jiraiya's unconscious face. "The future belongs to you young people now… I hope he understands that."
"Ahem. We're of no further help here, so we'll leave Jiraiya to you," Fukasaku said. "I'll be feeling this battle for a long time…"
"Your name is Kirito, right?" Shima added. "Come to Mount Myoboku someday as our guest. I'll prepare a feast to thank you for saving him. And remind Jiraiya to visit us once he wakes up."
"Of course, I'll let Master Jiraiya know," Kirito replied with a smile, resisting the urge to recall the eccentric "dishes" of Mount Myoboku.
With a puff of smoke, the toad sages disappeared, leaving Kirito alone with the unconscious Jiraiya on the quiet hillside.
