Chapter 50: Chapter 50: Squad Formed
Early the next morning, Arima was still fast asleep when a flurry of urgent knocks startled him awake.
Sensing that it was Tsunade banging on his door, he guessed she must be in some kind of rush. He got up quickly, opened the door, and let the girl in.
Tsunade's first words were, "Good morning, Arima-nii. I've been waiting out here for a whole hour."
Arima turned to glance at the clock on the wall. It was only a quarter past six.
Looking at the overly excited girl, he tapped her forehead lightly and said, "Then you can wait a bit longer. If you've already waited an hour, that just means it can't be anything urgent."
With that, Arima turned around, planning to crawl back into bed for a little more sleep.
But just as he lay down, he felt Tsunade yank the blanket clean off him. Whatever sleepiness he had left vanished instantly.
Annoyed, he muttered, "You brat, your Arima-nii was up late last night worrying about the village."
Tsunade didn't seem the least bit concerned. "I was up late too, and I still woke up bright and early."
Arima raised an eyebrow. "And what exactly were you up thinking about?"
There was no way Tsunade could confess her girlish thoughts to Arima, so she mumbled vaguely, "Oh, you know... mission stuff. Stop nagging, hurry up and get dressed."
She placed his Hokage robes on the bed, then chirped, "I'm off to eat the little cakes Auntie made, Arima-nii."
With that, she skipped away happily. Watching her bounce out of the room, Arima felt a bit puzzled. 'She doesn't look anything like the mess she was last night....'
But seeing that she seemed back to her usual self, Arima figured she hadn't run into any real problems, and pushed last night's events out of his mind.
What he didn't know was that Tsunade was sneakily grinning to herself.
She knew her little outburst this morning would make Arima forget all about her embarrassing state the night before.
She was in high spirits and had quite the appetite. After all these years, eating breakfast at her aunt's house had become a daily habit.
Before long, Arima had also gotten himself ready. When he stepped out of his room, he found Tsunade cheerfully humming a tune, clearly in a very good mood.
He studied the girl carefully and saw nothing out of the ordinary. Curious, he asked, "Hey, what are you grinning about?"
In such a good mood, Tsunade boldly asked, "Arima-nii, what do you think it feels like to love someone?"
The question caught Arima off guard. After thinking for a moment, he answered casually, "How would I know? It's not like I've ever been in love."
And with that, he began calmly eating breakfast.
Tsunade had been quite pleased with herself at first. She thought she'd deftly resolved the awkwardness from the night before and was feeling rather proud.
But the moment she heard Arima's answer, her mood darkened like a cloud passing over the sun. Even the steamed bun in her hand lost its flavor.
Suppressing her rising frustration, she asked with a composed face, "Are you being serious, Arima-nii?"
Arima looked up. He could feel a sudden shift in Tsunade's aura, like a storm brewing. 'What the hell's gotten into her now? Mood swings like the summer weather....'
He asked cautiously, "Did something happen? Are you having trouble with something?"
Hearing the genuine concern in his voice, Tsunade found it hard to stay angry.
She took a big bite of her bun and said, "Yeah, kind of.... I ran into a blockhead. I have no idea how to make him see things clearly."
Arima wasn't clueless, he immediately understood what she meant. And just like that, he realized why Tsunade had been so moody this morning.
He got up, walked over, and pulled her into a gentle hug. Stroking her soft golden hair, he said quietly, "Silly girl.... You're the blockhead."
All the nervousness and frustration in Tsunade's heart faded in that moment. She suddenly understood, she'd been overthinking everything.
Right now, she didn't want to worry anymore. As long as Arima was by her side, as long as she could be held like this, nothing else mattered.
Before they could linger in the warmth of the moment, a polite cough from Naomi startled them both.
They quickly pulled apart and pretended nothing had happened, going back to their breakfast.
Naomi, watching their awkward attempt at covering things up, stifled a laugh. She placed the flowers she was holding into a vase and left the room in a hurry.
Moments later, Arima and Tsunade could hear her laughter echoing from down the hall.
Tsunade gave Arima a playful glare with her large, glistening eyes. "See what you did? Now Auntie's laughing at us."
Arima shrugged, offering no defense. 'Okay... maybe I was a little reckless there. I let my emotions get the better of me....'
The two finished their meal in silence and then headed together to the Hokage's office.
Meanwhile, in the Hokage building, the high-ranking officials were already gathered, waiting for the arrival of the Third Hokage and the Third Raikage.
It wasn't long before both leaders arrived. Once seated, the meeting officially began.
Arima was the first to speak.
"The Konoha-Kumo Alliance has now stood for ten years. The progress we've made is clear for all to see. Naturally, this has stirred unease among other powers.
There are two western factions in particular we should watch.
First, Hanzo, the leader of Amegakure. He's strong and extremely cautious.
Second, the man known as the 'strongest Kazekage in history,' the Third Kazekage, Saho of Sunagakure. His Magnet Release is especially formidable."
The Third Raikage, A, added, "Indeed. I've heard that Hanzo can paralyze opponents just by breathing his poisonous gas.
He's also highly skilled with the blade. As for Saho, he can briefly fly using Magnet Release. That ability could be troublesome."
Arima nodded. "The Daimyos of the Land of Bears and the Land of Demons have submitted to us for two reasons.
One, the invasion by the mysterious Sky Ninja, who strike without warning and are hard to counter.
Two, pressure from Land of Wind and Land of Rain, who are looking to form an alliance of their own, much like ours."
With a serious expression, he continued, "That's why I plan to personally lead two elite squads on this rescue mission. Raikage will remain here to oversee our base in case of enemy attack."
Once the mission was settled, the rest of the afternoon was spent going over the village's operational plans in Arima's absence. It wasn't until three o'clock that every detail was finalized.
After the meeting, Arima and A remained behind, along with Tsunade, Jiraiya, and Orochimaru, the members of one team.
The second squad from Kumogakure consisted of Dodai, Iwa, and Kata.
Dodai was a cautious, steady ninja and the squad leader. He specialized in Lava Release.
Iwa had an elegant figure, fair skin, and stunning looks.
She was incredibly knowledgeable and always calm. Skilled with the blade, she was also an open admirer of Arima and Tsunade's bitter rival.
Kata was cheerful and talkative, with strong sensory abilities.
However, he was a bit eccentric. He also stuttered, especially when nervous.
Looking over the six of them, Arima said, "The mission details are in these scrolls. Read them carefully."
He handed out six scrolls. Everyone opened them and began reading with focused expressions.
The scrolls highlighted the following:
"Sky Ninja suspected to possess a mysterious chakra entity, possibly an unknown Tailed Beast.
The Shinobi Village of Hoshigakure in the Land of Bears has been wiped out.
A mysterious meteorite has gone missing, likely taken by the Sky Ninja.
The demon Moryo, sealed by the Priestess of the Land of Demons, is also a target of the Sky Ninja. Intervention by Amegakure and Sunagakure is highly likely."
Once everyone finished reading, Arima asked seriously, "Any questions?"
Everyone shook their heads. Only Jiraiya spoke up. "Sensei, when do we leave?"
Arima looked at the clock. It was still early. "We move out shortly. You have thirty minutes to prepare. All supplies have already been packed for you. Dismissed."
The teams dispersed to get ready.
Half an hour later, everyone gathered at the village gates, then boarded the train bound for the border between the Land of Fire and the Land of Rain.
