Chapter 16: Chapter 016 - Rokushō-sensei!?
Ah, an incredible day for Yūji, seeing how the rain that day was beautiful, not harsh and truly relaxing, just a gentle breeze. He was walking with his sister, holding an umbrella that was somewhat red but served its purpose, and he held Karin's hand as he walked with joy on his face, the excitement palpable.
" mmm, what do you think our sensei will be like, Karin? I'm so excited! I can't wait to go on missions with him and gain experience; the best part is leaving Amegakure and really seeing the world, I hope it isn't as horrible as it used to be " Yūji said, walking in a comical manner driven by his euphoria. Karin, on the other hand, had twisted her smile slightly, appearing somewhat bitter.
" remember that the life of a ninja isn't the best, Yūji, so don't be disappointed if you see something you don't like "
" yes, yes, I know, it's just that I always try to think positively; I don't like always thinking about the bad. That's why I always keep my smile, it seems that's what you like to see too " The boy looked at his sister calmly, watching as Karin nodded tenderly; after all, his brother was right most of the time.
Arriving at the academy, as he entered the place and walked along the short hallways, he encountered Uguma and Nobumi chatting with very short steps, and every time he saw them again his heart would tighten.
For some reason, they were the only ones who looked so much like his best friend, Megumi, and his best friend, Nobara.
But he gave a warm smile and, with dramatic tears, ran toward the girl.
" Nobumi! aah! sister nobuuuumiii~! " He waved his arms impatiently, and Nobumi reacted to the redhead's dramatic, elongated shout.
Those who were there thought the girl would react rudely, but to everyone's surprise and nothing particularly special on Uguma's part, whose long face showed it, he saw that Nobumi reacted just like Yūji; they really are like two peas in a pod, although to Uguma both of them are idiots.
" Yūji-chan! aah, my little Yūji-chaaaan~ he's a graduate! " The girl ran with a funny expression on her face, scooping Yūji into her arms as he leaped into them. Nobumi spun several times without stopping, making Yūji continue crying dramatically in her arms.
" you two are embarrassing me... I can't believe that Nobumi's stupidity has rubbed off on Yūji " Mumbled the brown-haired one, his face darkening with shame as he covered his face with his hands, not wanting his disgusted expression to be seen.
" shut up, you shitty face! Our little, beloved, and tender Yūji-chan is going to get a Jōnin, being one of the best graduates even though he's younger than everyone in this damned school! He's surpassed both you and me! You should be ashamed! " He snapped, jabbing his finger rudely into the cheek of the taller one without pausing even a moment to criticize, in a thug-like gesture, nothing like the reaction he had when he saw Yūji.
While Yūji reacted in his childish way with those he now considered his best friends. " that's right, sister Nobumi! defend me! "
" I can't take it anymore... " The poor boy, with eyes like a dead man's, muttered to himself after being reprimanded by two idiots with the same brain. Subtly shaking his head, he then gave a serious look to the boy:
" you won't be the only prodigy graduate, Yūji, because we will also be taking the graduation exam very soon; we're already very powerful " He spoke very firmly.
The redhead beamed an enormous smile and raised his thumb high; one could even see a glimmer in his eyes.
" that's how it's done! But that should have been done before! Surely now you all won't be my team! " He said with deflated sadness, distancing himself from Nobumi.
" pfft, even if we had graduated earlier, I doubt they would have put us on your team; you're the best, Yūji, but everyone knows you're very sentimental, I doubt they'd assign you someone you actually like " The girl said mockingly, smiling as she watched the little one appear dejected.
" you'd better leave; I think your teacher will arrive very soon " Uguma said with boredom, pointing behind him, this time interrupting the boy's sadness. Yūji lifted his face in surprise and, with a look of terror, glanced behind him; his older sister was no longer there.
" ah! later we have to talk, just the two of us, and eat at grandma Tamayo's little stall where her fish and rice are delicious! Goodbye, bye! Sister, wait! don't leave me! " The only thing Nobumi and Uguma managed to see was a cloud of smoke from how fast the boy ran.
" that little brat... how can he have so much energy? " He said while scratching the bridge of his nose disinterestedly, but Uguma, this time with a stoic face, gave a slight smile.
" but that's exactly how we want him; come on, we have to get to class now " The boy said calmly as he headed to his place, followed by the short-haired girl.
And now, catching up with Yūji, who reached Karin, amid Karin's laughter and Yūji's grumbling, both entered what had been their classroom yesterday, where those whom teacher Asa had told them to come were gathered.
Since there were six of them, it seemed they would form two teams of three. This time, Yūji smiled excitedly.
" hello everyone! are you excited?! " He saw how Ajisai directed her gaze at him as if she were a thug; it seemed she was still resentful about having lost the spar with the boy.
" tch, don't talk to me, I hate seeing you "
" sister Ajisai, how long are you going to be angry with me? " The boy puffed out his cheeks a bit, noticing that the girl wasn't even giving him a glance. Then he saw Suiren, the girl he had mistaken for a man years ago. She was very quiet but not mean.
" has she been taking it out on the training area? "
Suiren, with her eyes narrowed, looked silently as Ajisai grumbled angrily between growls,
" ...a lot, yesterday she didn't leave the area "
" I was afraid of that " The poor boy said this time with a loud sigh.
" I really would have preferred to go on missions alone... or without a Jōnin. Why do we need someone older to teach us? What are they going to teach us? If it's only killing or escorting, or protecting merchandise, I don't understand it... " Fuyō, that sleepy girl who seemed not to care about anything, with her long hair covering her left eye and hanging down in an expression of boredom, remarked.
Touwa, the boy who was the complete opposite of Yūji, was a timid and embarrassed-looking child with lilac hair, somewhat greenish eyes, and small purple marks on his face. Despite his personality, he was a great ninja in every way highly versatile.
But this time he smiled shyly at his companions.
" come on, I-I don't think it's so bad to have a sensei teach us something, w-we can learn from them... " His voice was very soft, though he was startled instantly by Ajisai's slam on the table.
" to hell with it! I could be my own boss! " The girl retorted to the boy, who had shrunk in his spot, as she saw that nervous, very abashed smile on his face. " always having someone boss us around is the worst enduring that for six damn years, and now, once again, we'll have someone in charge of us "
Innocently, Yūji blinked a couple of times.
" are you sure it's because of that or because you're afraid we'll be on the same team? "
" shut up, pumpkin! "
Karin simply sighed deeply to hide her face; she knew how Ajisai was aggressive by nature. She no longer even knew how many nicknames she had been calling her since entering the academy, and now her little brother was receiving eloquent nicknames, but the worst part was that Yūji never insulted her; on the contrary, he found it funny and responded with even more eloquent nicknames than Ajisai, all with a mocking smile.
" that's what the stinky octopus says "
" damn menstruation... "
" poisonous worm, pff "
" you…! "
Ajisai immediately got up to go after Yūji with an angry look and bloodshot eyes, although Karin immediately intervened to stop them; the boy only wanted to laugh in the face of the purple-haired girl.
" very well, it'd be best if you all calm down and wait patiently for our sensei " The embarrassed girl said nervously.
At that moment, Yūji blurted out,
" sister, what is menstruation? " Curiously, he looked at Karin; she no longer seemed to notice whether her hair covered her entire face or if she was simply trying to become one with it. He even saw smoke coming from her head, was it really that bad?
" I can't believe we have to put up with such immature brats... "
" to me, they're funny "
The six children turned directly toward the door and found two Jōnin waiting. one whom Yūji knew perfectly, his big smile evident despite his surprise.
" Rokushō-sensei?! " Excitedly, Yūji approached him upon seeing him again; although he always looked at him, he never imagined that this man would be his new sensei or rather, he hoped it would be so.
The green-haired Jōnin had a playful smile; he had witnessed most of Yūji's fight with the girl and did not know what expression he would make when those names were mentioned.
But unlike the green-haired Jōnin, the other one standing next to Rokushō was far more intimidating. His firm gaze swept over the brats he knew so well; a terrible scar ran from his chin down to his neck, it looked as though it had been very painful. His eyes were so dark and deep, with copper hair and somewhat tanned skin.
And he had a remarkably bulky, muscular build.
" Karin, Touwa, and Fuyō, come with me right now to the training area; if you're late, what happens to you will be worse than having your ninja headbands taken away " The Jōnin said furiously, causing even the laziest girl to open her eyes wide.
" damn it, why can't I sleep any longer? I really would have preferred to work alone " Tears streaming, the poor sleepy girl suddenly woke up, immediately got to her feet, and, along with Karin and Touwa, ran out with a look of surprise.
" good luck, Karin! You can do it, sister! " The boy said cheerfully, showing a huge, happy smile as he watched his sister run with those who would be her teammates, but at that moment he suddenly realized something.
His own smile vanished, replaced by a bitter, depressed expression, something very unusual for the redhead. " in the end, I got the rabid dog... "
An angry Ajisai glared at him. " who do you call a rabid dog, brat?! "
Rokushō now smiled, amused by the situation, but there was something strange about it.
Why was Rokushō the teacher of this particular group?
In the end, he had perfectly completed his mission as a first-year sensei when Yūji was still around; after that, he continued his routine life, accepting dangerous missions, helping villagers, infiltrating as an informant, etc.
But when he learned that that mischievous brat, who seemed like the very sun in the rain, was finally graduating, he accepted the application to be the sensei of that generation, and in the end, he ended up going on missions with Yūji.
Seeing how grown-up and impressive the boy was at that moment filled him with pride, although he also wanted to be sensei to these brats because he truly believed that everything involving the boy would be more… interesting, very different from his routine. Above all, seeing that prodigy walk before him would really make him feel good if he were their teacher.
His gaze then turned to Ajisai; that girl was equally prodigious, possessing a rather unique skill in weapon combat. It seemed she didn't like using much ninjutsu, according to what had been noted in her file; she was analytical in situations and was basically a natural leader.
Then his gaze shifted to Suiren; that quiet girl had very good sensory abilities, excellent at stealth and infiltration.
And finally to Yūji, the prodigy of Amegakure that everyone knew. This boy was good at basically everything; the only downside he had was his personality, a kind-hearted, gentle, and tender boy. He had the strength of a ninja but not the mindset of one, which made him very vulnerable when facing ninjas from other villages.
That is why he was placed on a team with the two girls; both of them had a cold, life-or-death personality, as had been clearly shown by the spars they had had.
The only one who would never kill was Yūji, and that was something he would have to handle himself.
Rokushō clapped his hands and smiled, closing his eyes.
" very well, children, this time we're going to another place because I need to get to know you more deeply; after all, we'll be spending a lot of time together. I'll watch you on the outskirts of Amegakure, by the sea of pipes from which the water flows; don't delay " Yūji looked on in surprise as his sensei disappeared, something that excited the little one immensely.
" Rokushō-sensei is incredible... he was here and then FUSH! " The boy said as he looked at Suiren, who nodded without even speaking.
Ajisai didn't even reply; she disappeared from the area something Yūji took as a provocation. With a mocking smile, he also took off after Ajisai.
The only one left was Suiren, who, without worrying, took her time; those two were natural competitors essentially rivals ever since Yūji was admitted to his grade years ago.
In the Rain Village, one could barely see except for a red blur and a purple blur racing at full speed; sometimes Ajisai ran along the pipes that were slippery from the water, and Yūji laughed joyfully as he dodged what the girl occasionally threw at him trash or obstacles.
Yūji reached one side of Ajisai; the girl grumbled furiously at being nearly overtaken, but after finally passing all the obstacles and evasive objects, both of them arrived at the place where Rokushō-sensei was waiting. To his surprise, he saw that both Yūji and Ajisai had landed hard on the muddy floor, falling face-first while screaming.
Moments later, with calm, Suiren arrived, surveying the mess and agitation of both; she remained utterly unfazed.
" it's incredible how far their competitiveness can go, but both ended in a tie "
The Jōnin said with a smile as he listened to both of their complaints.
It was time to begin the presentation.

[ today there is no illustration; it was supposed to be that yesterday's chapter would be for today, but I don't know how to use the Webnovel timer xD so today is just a simple chapter.
I hope you're enjoying the story and show it by commenting, I love reading your recommendations. If I miss something, you can also tell me, since my memory sometimes fails, especially with details from JJK; it's been a while since I reread the manga.
I wanted to incorporate some comedy into the story as well; after all, Yūji isn't an emo, edgy kid who hates everyone. He wanted to leave his past and all his previous suffering behind, trying to enjoy life to the fullest. I hope I've portrayed that well and that he has the same good personality as our little rooster.
Even though he doesn't know that in Naruto his life is going to be just as painful :) muehehehe ]
