Chapter 17: Chapter 017 - The First Mission.

Rokushō was standing in front of those three children, watching as they had already calmed down, something fun about youth hitting each other, really fun, something he had not experienced on his monotonous missions.

Yūji and Ajisai were covered in mud on their faces and all over their clothing; the only modest and silent one not looking at both with anger and frustration was Suiren. Rokushō showed a kind smile. " Very well, new team, now we are going to formally introduce ourselves, as we will be together for… um, some time, I can say that it is necessary to know each other well. "

There he saw that none of the three spoke, only the soft sound of the rain's breeze could be heard. The Jōnin cleared his throat to settle himself on the rock where he was seated " well, my full name is Aoi Rokushō, I specialize in obtaining information from other villages, assassination, and infiltration, um… previously I had a genin team very different from you; it is possible that in due time you will know them. I like salty, I hate sweet, and I am good at bukijutsu. Very well, I have introduced myself in what is most necessary for you to know; now it is your turn " It was quite brief in his presentation, but it really seemed that the children did not care much. "Um… yes, Suiren, you begin."

Everyone looked at the silent girl, emanating that awkward aura to which they were accustomed. The girl appeared calm; Yūji, blinking, waited for her presentation. " My name is only Suiren, I like the cold and rainy days, I hate the sun and the heat." Everyone rolled their eyes,in Amegakure it is always raining! "I like eating fried fish… and, training, I am… very good with my only element, water; they have told me that I have the qualities of a sensory ninja, I don't know…" Just as she, she was quite quiet and short; it seems that she might have another appearance since Suiren seemed quite shy about receiving attention.

Rokushō only smiled kindly, " Okay, now it is…" He toyed with his finger, pointing successively toward Ajisai and Yūji, until he stopped at Ajisai hearing the noticeable groan of the redhead "It is your turn, Ajisai."

" Hump! " mocked Yūji with that arrogant smile; crossing his arms, he immediately stood up:

" My name is Ajisai, who would want to have a silly surname? The name is the best, I love rice! Training is my activity all day, every day; I am very good in taijutsu and in fūinjutsu, and most importantly, I hate Yūji!" He could never fail to reprimand the little boy. Yūji frowned, and the most childish thing for him was to stick out his tongue in disgust.

" God job, Ajisai " Rokushō was silently judging them, then he turned his gaze toward the last member, Yūji; the green-haired one gave the boy a kind smile: " hum..., Yūji, it seems that you are the last to introduce yourself. " Smiling kindly, he said to the boy.

Yūji also stood up, shook off the mud that covered his little body, glanced sideways at his two companions, but only smiled with confidence and determination, something that seemed lacking and very unfamiliar in those small villages. " My name is Yūji, the thing I love the most is my friends and my only sister Karin; I am very good in taijutsu ninjutsu, and very little in fūinjutsu. " One could see the shame and that timid smile on the boy, something curious in him: " What I love most to do is train and surpass my limits, and my dream… " That is something that none of the three have said, so everyone looked interested in what he would say next. Yūji tightly grasped his Amegakure plaque that hangs from his neck and sticks out beneath his scarf, which he also held firmly; with a look full of determination he regarded his companions and sensei: " It is to become the most powerful person of all so that they never harm what I love! " Everything he said shone upon everyone, as he clenched his fist to demonstrate his seriousness.

Rokushō was surprised by the child's skill in saying that, but Ajisai smiled mockingly: " You really have great dreams, so if you also state your dream, I will too. " Without a doubt, the redhead took it all with rivalry; crossing her arms she looked at her sensei:

" My dream is that all villages never fight in war again, and that true peace is achieved! I will contribute to achieve peace… "

Suiren, in a low voice upon seeing that both had stated their dreams, spoke similarly: " My dream is the same, it is to exist in a world where peace can finally be achieved and where we never have to fight… "

Yūji dedicated a bright smile to them, raising his thumb: " Don't worry, when I am strong enough you will not have to worry, I will achieve that peace you speak of! "

"Of course not, dummy!"

Rokushō, seeing them in that light and knowing their dreams, really did not expect it; after all, they are children, his eyes narrowed.

" Your dreams are very big, but for you to achieve them you are still very far away; you will have to work hard if you want to succeed. You cannot do it because right now you are very weak. That is why we, as a team, will start from the very bottom and work our way up. " he dedicated a comforting smile to the kids, watching how they got excited, although in Suiren it was not noticeable behind that mask.

The Jōnin stood up, stretching " Very well, team, now we must head to the tall building in the distance; that is where Konan-sama will attend to us. She is the one in charge of giving us the missions that very few have the luck to accept others must leave Amegakure and look for suppliers or simply sponsor their services. Since we are one team, she will mainly be responsible for giving us missions, so let's go right now. "

The three in unison said "Yes, sensei!"

The four, in one single movement, had already jumped high to begin climbing among the pipes; they already had the skill and experience in that slippery place. The few villagers, upon seeing them, clearly recognized that red hair that contrasted with the blue and dark of the Rain Village.

The team moved with speed and agility to reach the highest spot; they had to climb systematically to reach the tower that was formerly Hanzō's, but now belonged to Konan.

Upon arriving, they saw that only one ninja was standing at the door; due to the shortage of ninjas and only a few ambu ninjas from the Rain Village were present to guard Konan, they had such rough and serious faces that Yūji felt uncomfortable, with long black robes with purple accents, thick clothing because of the rain.

Although, without changing his neutral expression, he spoke " State your names and explain what you are here for. "

" It is the new Rokushō team; we have come on a mission. "

It was so short and blunt that the Ambu only entered to see Konan and relay the information exactly, a quick process since he let them in, and there Yūji saw the one who had trained him for some time, whom Konan, upon witnessing, dedicated a discreet smile.

" fine, I have a mission for you now. The newly added team must travel to the Land of Rivers at the request of the people of Katabami Mizan; they want us to provide protection, as there have been sightings of assassins and thieves. " spoke Konan, giving brief information.

Rokushō frowned as he thought about that, glancing sideways at his new group; sometimes a mission that he classified as B would unexpectedly turn into an A rank, and he had expected it to be something simple.

And as he had previously explained to Yūji, due to lack of administration and money, Amegakure accepts risky missions; the only one who sometimes profited was the Rain Daimyo.

Although all is done by Konan, since she had threatened the feudal, only Akatsuki knew that.

The lilac-haired one looked at the group, " So you must depart at this moment. "

" Understood, Konan-sama. " spoke the man efficiently, bowing; Yūji and the other two girls did the same.

But Yūji had an excited smile, for it would be the first time he would leave the village; since he had arrived in that world he had wanted to appreciate the truth of that place. He was sometimes confused by the fact that his sister always lamented having become a ninja, although from all he had learned, those with a lot of negativity had always been the ninjas; the villagers hardly carried any cursed energy.

The Rokushō team left calmly to look at the three children. " This may be a rather long journey; I did not expect that we would get a mission… very long for the first time, but it is the fastest way for you to be forged, so I will wait for you at the shore where the rain ends. We will depart in the morning, take as much food as possible and changes of clothes "

" Yes, sensei! " the three said again, it all happened very quickly. Yūji saw how Rokushō simply smiled and disappeared using his swift movement; the red-haired boy looked at them with a smile.

" See you tomorrow, girls! I'm excited! I have to go with Nobumi and Uguma to tell them! " The boy didn't even wait and ran off into that labyrinth, passing by the Tower of Pain, part of the Salamander's lair, and finally reaching the center. He saw that all the villagers were very active, and he trotted in search of his best friends; when he saw them there, the boy smiled happily luckily they were in the closed training area.

" Nobumi! Uguma! " the boy greeted with that bright smile. Nobumi smiled in the same excited way, but Uguma only nodded calmly in greeting; water flooded the place, sounding as if it were forming an endless river.

Rocky and with little vegetation was what lay there; the girl beamed broadly as she hugged the boy,

" Yūji-chan! How was your first day? Have you already gone on a mission? " she said excitedly as she looked at the very excited boy walking around the water.

" Actually, tomorrow we will go on our first mission it will be escort duty! " the boy said excitedly, but he did not pay attention that around Nobumi's arm and hanging, he already had the Rain plaque; with surprise the boy looked at those plaques " Have you already had your early graduation?! This deserves that we go to the place where Grandma Tamayo sells roasted food! "

Uguma smiled lightly " Well, since you insist, we can go and talk about what we will do."

" You had a good idea for once, Uguma, let's go! I'm starving, " said the girl excitedly, taking both of them and guiding them directly to the center of the town, where one could appreciate the great works of towers rising upward, since the villagers' houses are built upward a very exotic place for a poor village.

" You know, I ended up with an annoying girl, but who was a good person even if I didn't want to; it's Ajisai, and a girl that on the first day when I had my class change I mistook for a man, but I apologized her name is Suiren. " Yūji kept chatting, moving calmly, though sometimes he exaggerated, which made Nobumi laugh.

" Well, that's having bad luck, Yūji-chan; it's a shame that you had to be promoted before we obtained our shinobi band " the girl sighed deeply, and Uguma only nodded silently.

" You know, it's for the best; if it's as always, sister Karin has told me… I, if I were on a team with you two, I think I would never be able to see you hurt each other " Yūji's smile twisted bitterly.

Whenever he did not want to, in Nobumi he saw his endearing friend Nobara, and in Uguma, Megumi, God, why did they resemble them so much?!

He shook his head imagining the shadows of his past, then simply returned to his usual demeanor:

" Well, whatever even though I am really happy with my team, did you get a Jōnin? " the boy asked curiously.

" Welp, we have one, but she is so laid-back and haughty that she really brings out my bad mood, which I almost never show… her name is Gomu-sensei; she is a woman… " Nobumi looked amused as Uguma furrowed his brow with determination.

" Actually, today we also had our first presentation; it really seems that she does not care much about our group, and we have a very skilled companion even though she is not very talkative and is too distant; not even this drone gets along well with the girl " Uguma remarked playfully, who then reproached him, " but so far everything is fine, we are fine and we also hope to soon carry out our first mission as Genin. "

After talking and walking so leisurely, they saw the small stall, too small and deteriorated, with rust in many parts, really a small and very humble stall.

Yūji smiled with excitement as he sat in that fragile chair, feeling that it could break with a sudden movement, " Grandma Tamayo! Grandma! " the boy exclaimed excitedly; that joy caused a warmth to fill that small, unremarkable stall a warmth that not even the sun could give them.

Inside was a grandmother, with a traditional hair tie and many wrinkles on her face; she looked very humble and kind Yūji felt tenderness toward her. She wore a worn yukata of purple with blue.

The grandmother made an incredible fish giso with seaweed and rice which, amazingly, was the only tasty dish sold in Amegakure: a simple giso with basic ingredients that tasted glorious to Yūji.

" Ho! But if it isn't the little sun and his friends! Come, sit down I'll give you the best of the house " she said sweetly; the children almost always went to her stall, they were her star customers.

Knowing how they ordered their dishes, she began to make them, at a slow but sure pace.

Uguma, on his cold face, formed a very slight smile: " How did you wake up today, Grandma Tamayo? "

" I hope that your waist pain has improved " she said with concern and quite respectfully to her elders, Nobumi.

The reason they were concerned about the grandmother was that what would be considered a doctor in the Rain Village there were not many ninja doctors, and those that existed were too scarce, making medicine and doctors very expensive and, of course, unaffordable for the villagers.

This was something Konan had plenty of work to do about, but because of Nagato's objective, she had somewhat neglected the village, making it almost unproductive in health care.

" Fortunately, I have improved; what little Yūji said about putting something warm on the painful area was true, it is possible that the cold of the rain causes that pain. So, I thank you for your help and attention, children—oh! It seems that you are already ninjas " the grandmother said in surprise upon seeing their plaques tied firmly; she acted as if she were truly their grandmother. " I am so glad that you are one step ahead of your dreams being ninjas, the house welcomes you. "

Yūji was moved by the grandmother; his lips trembled, but he showed enormous warmth " Thank you, Grandma Tamayo, I promise to spend more time with you and also with Karin. "

Nobumi blushed and Uguma only nodded, grateful for such a good person.

The grandmother only smiled tenderly " Come on, eat it will get cold. "

The children smiled happily, taking their chopsticks and thanking for that meal, a delicacy for them.

Yūji ate carefully because it was so hot, although his smile was happy as he watched how sometimes Nobumi teased Uguma and how the latter angrily told her to shut up.

Hearing Grandma Tamayo's laughter and being together with his two best friends meant no other reward for Yūji; he was happy with his friends and his family.

He wonders… how is Karin doing?
