Chapter 158: Chapter 158: Tsunade’s Power
"Do you want to eat it?"
In the room, Kiyoshi looked at the three women, all with shocked expressions, and asked with a smile. He wasn't planning on forcing them if they didn't want to.
"Gulp... Lady Tsunade." Shizune swallowed hard, glancing toward Tsunade.
To be honest, she was tempted. Who wouldn't want a Kekkei Genkai?
In the shinobi world, power is a ninja's best insurance for survival.
"Wood Release?"
The shock on Tsunade's face gradually settled into calm. She stared blankly at the green fruit with strange patterns, momentarily lost in thought.
Once upon a time, countless members of the Senju clan, for the sake of Konoha's future, underwent body experiments, cooperating with the higher-ups in hopes of gaining the power of Wood Release by implanting cells from the First Hokage.
The results were catastrophic. Many died one after another, with not a single success.
The death toll grew so high that Konoha's leaders eventually had to halt the project and seal it away.
Her younger brother, Nawaki, once had heartfelt aspirations of awakening Wood Release one day to protect Konoha, just like their grandfather and bring peace to the chaotic world.
Now, however, such an opportunity was right before her.
Taking a deep breath, Tsunade said firmly, "Since Kiyoshi is offering this as a gift, we'll accept it."
Looking at the Devil Fruits for Shizune and Karin, Tsunade could tell that these were clearly prepared with care by Kiyoshi. She wasn't one to let pride get in the way of such an opportunity.
Still, she couldn't help but feel a bit sentimental. Fate works in strange ways.
With determination, the three women each held their fruit and took a bite.
"Ugh—"
Their faces contorted as they stared directly at Kiyoshi with wide, unblinking eyes.
It was worse than anything they had ever tasted, a flavor beyond words.
Is he messing with us?
"The taste is a bit... odd, but the benefits are unimaginable. Just bear with it." Kiyoshi coughed, struggling to hold back a laugh.
Watching them endure what he once considered a "nightmare" gave him an unexpected sense of satisfaction.
The three women had no choice but to close their eyes and endure.
Fighting back the nausea, they forced themselves to swallow the fruits bit by bit.
"This is a Devil Fruit?"
Just after finishing her fruit, Tsunade's face turned a sickly green. "Shouldn't it be called a Nightmare Fruit?"
"I doubt even pigs would eat this," Shizune added, only now regaining her composure.
"I've never tasted anything so awful," Karin said, patting her chest with lingering disgust.
"It's…. it's worse than eating literal garbage."
Even though she had never actually eaten anything that revolting, despite her nomadic childhood, the fruit had brought a strange, indescribable association.
"It's okay, it's over now," Kiyoshi said, arms crossed as he leaned against the wall. "You'll soon feel its benefits."
"I don't feel any different."
Karin looked at her hands in confusion.
"No... something is definitely changing within me," Tsunade's gaze sharpened as she spoke.
She could feel an unimaginable vitality surging through her body, filling every inch of her being.
Her chakra reserves surged, growing exponentially within moments.
Her entire body felt invigorated—almost unbelievably so.
"Yes, I feel it too." Shizune said, her tone filled with wonder.
She could clearly sense her own chakra growing, making her feel like she was dreaming.
Karin, now noticing the changes in herself, was equally astonished. "Huh?"
"The initial transformation is noticeable, but it will gradually slow down." Kiyoshi, who had already tested the effects of the artificial Devil Fruits on Root members, explained with a smile.
"Over the next few days, your bodies will continue to change subtly until the gene fusion is complete."
"I'll take you all to the outskirts to test your new powers." Kiyoshi said, spreading his fingers, which transformed into vines that quickly extended outwards.
Wrapping around Tsunade, Shizune, and Karin, he activated the Flying Thunder God Technique, instantly transporting them from the inn.
"Swoosh—"
Outside the town, in the forest where Kiyoshi once trained in the Flying Thunder God, several figures suddenly appeared.
"Flying Thunder God Technique?" Tsunade, Shizune, and Karin marveled at the sudden shift in location.
"Tsunade-nee, look into my eyes."
Kiyoshi's eyes turned a deep crimson, with intricate, mesmerizing patterns swirling within them.
"Tsukuyomi."
"Hmm?"
Instinctively, Tsunade looked into his eyes, and in an instant, her vision blurred. She found herself in a vibrant world, filled with the sounds of birds and the fragrance of flowers.
She gazed around, slightly surprised. "Where…. is this?"
"This is the world of Tsukuyomi, a space created by the Mangekyo Sharingan.
Here, time, matter—everything—is under my control." Kiyoshi's figure appeared before her, holding a scroll in his hand.
It was the same as the one Tsunade had initially given him, filled with the Wood Release techniques of the First Hokage.
"This is the Wood Release scroll you originally gave me. You can use this time to memorize each technique."
Unfurling the large scroll before her, Kiyoshi continued, "Don't worry. Even if you spend days or weeks here, it will only be an instant in the real world."
"Tsukuyomi, huh? Such a convenient ability." Tsunade marveled, clearly impressed. Without hesitation, she began studying the scroll, memorizing every jutsu.
She lost track of time as she committed the techniques to memory.
When she had finally absorbed all the content of the scroll, her vision shifted again, and she found herself standing once more with Karin and Shizune.
In front of her was Kiyoshi, with his Eternal Mangekyo Sharingan still activated.
She was back in reality.
"Lady Tsunade." Shizune and Karin looked at her, curiosity evident in their expressions.
"Phew—"
Tsunade exhaled deeply.
While not exhausted, the intense focus she had maintained while memorizing the First Hokage's Wood Release techniques in the world of Tsukuyomi had left her slightly dazed.
"Want to give it a try?" Kiyoshi asked with a smile.
"Yes."
Tsunade nodded, the slight fatigue not enough to hinder someone of her strength.
Especially now, with an abundance of chakra nearly overflowing within her, she felt incredibly alive.
Her chakra reserves had doubled, perhaps even tripled, in a short time.
It was unbelievable.
"Wood Release: Deep Forest Emergence."
With practiced hands, Tsunade flew through the hand seals, and from her right hand, vines and trees burst forth, racing forward and wrapping around a towering tree in the distance, crushing it in an instant.
"It really is… Wood Release."
"Incredible..."
