Rinjin carefully tucked the money into his pocket and then rudely tore open the envelope. He unfolded the letter and began reading it with a casual air.

The letter wasn't long, but its content was dense, causing Rinjin's eye to twitch as he read.

At the beginning, it briefly praised Rinjin's actions, commending him for successfully infiltrating Konohagakure and encouraging him to keep up the good work.

Then, in an extremely nonchalant tone, it laid out several tasks for Rinjin.

The first task was to gather intelligence on Konoha's upper echelons.

Whether or not this was achievable was one thing, but the level of danger involved was astronomical. Even if Rinjin's identity hadn't been exposed, such a task was incredibly difficult and perilous. Yet, in the letter, Hanzō of the Salamander's casual tone made it seem as if he didn't care whether Rinjin lived or died.

The second task was to incite hatred between the two major bloodline clans of Konoha, the Hyūga and the Uchiha.

At this, Rinjin almost burst out laughing. This Hanzō not only didn't care about his life but seemed a bit naïve as well.

A seven- or eight-year-old child inciting hatred between two powerful clans? Rinjin couldn't help but wonder how this man's brain worked.

The third task was for Rinjin to follow all instructions from Amagawa and assist him in establishing a foothold in Konoha.

However, what Hanzō didn't know was that the four fools he had sent hadn't even made it past Konoha's gates. At this point, Rinjin glanced at the four people in front of him and sighed in exasperation.

If Hanzō were a woman, Rinjin would have described him as "so stupid it's almost endearing."

It was clear that Hanzō didn't take Rinjin seriously at all.

However, at the end of the letter, Hanzō did give Rinjin a small piece of reassurance.

"Mizuguma is doing well. He is currently serving as the Ninjutsu instructor for the son of the Land of Rain's daimyō."

After reading the entire letter, Rinjin felt a mix of amusement and anger.

This guy had given him so many tasks but only sent him 5,000 ryō? Was he trying to appease a beggar?

With this thought, Rinjin set down the letter with a peculiar expression.

Amagawa, seeing that Rinjin had finished reading, stood up, walked over to him, and looked down at him condescendingly.

"Since you've read Lord Hanzō's personal letter, let's start carrying out the tasks."

As he spoke, Amagawa pulled out a palm-sized scroll, spread it on the ground, and gave Rinjin a sidelong glance.

"Kōhei Iwai, I'm ordering you now to draw Konoha's defense map."

At these words, Rinjin shook his head.

"I don't know. I'm not a shinobi, so how would I have the chance to observe the defenses?"

Hearing this, Hiruzen Sarutobi, hidden in the shadows, immediately relaxed his clenched fists.

He could confirm that Rinjin surely had the ability to deduce Konoha's defensive layout, but it was clear Rinjin had no intention of revealing it. This reassured Hiruzen greatly.

"What about intelligence on the village's upper echelons?" Amagawa pressed on.

"Heh, do you think I'm Superman? Why not just ask me to unify the shinobi world while you're at it?"

"Watch your tone, Kōhei Iwai!" came the harsh rebuke.

"What a useless piece of trash! You've been infiltrating Konoha for so long, and all you've done is eat?

You've completely disgraced Lord Hanzō! How did Amegakure produce such garbage as you?"

Hearing this, Rinjin raised an eyebrow and looked at Amagawa with amused interest.

"Alright then, since you're so incompetent, we'll follow my plan," Amagawa said, furrowing his brow as he rolled up the scroll on the ground.

"From now on, I'll be your uncle, and my identity will be that of a merchant. These three are my assistants.

Your job is to get us into Konoha and arrange accommodations for us! Got it?"

Faced with the yelling, Rinjin nonchalantly nodded.

"Alright, alright, got it."

Amagawa, seeing Rinjin's flippant attitude, felt a surge of anger welling up inside him.

"And another thing—I heard you're currently staying with a merchant family!"

Rinjin nodded again.

"Idiot!"

"How could Amegakure produce someone so useless? Who was your handler? They must be just as stupid!

Poison them, frame them, sabotage them—kill the family you're staying with and take over their assets. That's how you'll progress faster! What kind of teacher did you have to produce trash like you?"

Amagawa's face was full of rage as he yelled, and after finishing, he turned to his companions with a look of disdain.

"The kids these days are just hopeless. Each generation is worse than the last."

In the shadows, Hiruzen Sarutobi narrowed his eyes, staring intently at this man named Amagawa, struggling to suppress his killing intent.

He had changed his mind.

The operatives sent by Amegakure were not only stupid but also utterly ruthless. They had actually suggested that Rinjin kill the Katō family that had taken him in.

Such brainless yet highly dangerous individuals had no place in Konoha.

With this thought, Hiruzen Sarutobi resolved that even if Rinjin requested to bring these four into the village, he would never allow it.

Amagawa, meanwhile, continued complaining to his companions, occasionally shooting disdainful glances at Rinjin.

Rinjin, unfazed, sighed expressionlessly and slowly sat down. He reached toward his ankles, muttering softly to himself.

"The weights have to come off. It'd be troublesome if they broke." As he spoke, he removed the weights tied to his ankles and carefully placed them against the cave wall.

"My shirt sleeve is torn, but it can still be mended. By the way, will I be reimbursed for this?"

Muttering to himself, Rinjin took off his black short-sleeved shirt, folded it neatly, and placed it by the wall as well.

"Bastard! What are you doing?" Amagawa suddenly roared upon seeing Rinjin bare-chested.

Noticing the attention on him, Rinjin paused as he was about to remove his pants.

Slowly pulling his pants back up, Rinjin smirked and tilted his head, asking curiously,

"What am I doing?"

"Leading you guys, of course!"

Nearby, the shinobi who had previously held a kunai to Rinjin's throat snickered and mocked,

"Leading us while half-naked? Where to? Kabukichō?"

At this, the four of them burst into laughter, even Amagawa chuckling as he shook his head.

Hearing this, Rinjin shook his head seriously.

"Not Kabukichō. To the River of Forgetfulness—for a swim."

At these words, the laughter abruptly stopped.

The four of them knew exactly what the River of Forgetfulness was.

This kid was planning to lead them to their deaths!

Realizing this, the four of them looked at Rinjin with hostility.

Just for that remark, Amagawa was already considering killing him. He recalled Lord Hanzō's instructions before their mission:

If Rinjin disobeyed or showed any signs of disloyalty to Amegakure, they were to kill him on the spot.

"Kōhei Iwai, you'd better take back what you said, or I'll make you wish you were dead!"

Faced with Amagawa's threat, Rinjin extended his right hand, beckoning with his fingers. "Then come at me~"

Seeing that Rinjin was about to make a move, Hiruzen Sarutobi's brow furrowed in the depths of the cave, a trace of doubt surfacing in his mind.

This wasn't right! Why was Rinjin suddenly acting so reckless? Didn't he realize he was up against one jōnin and three genin?

With his intelligence and composure, he should have been able to endure such minor humiliation.

Why was he provoking them? Why was he giving his opponents a warning and making them more alert?

For a moment, Hiruzen Sarutobi was filled with confusion.

However, regardless of the reason, rescuing Rinjin was the top priority.

With this thought, Hiruzen Sarutobi readied his shuriken, prepared to strike.
