Chapter 57: Grand stage.
After the eight members were selected, the instructor informed us about the finals, saying they would take place in two days. We were told to be ready, as the matches would be one-on-one, and the matchups would be randomized and only announced at the time of the fights.
Then, the instructors quickly left—one headed towards Root Headquarters, and the other toward the Yamanaka Clan compound.
The instructor, Kano Yamanaka, went directly to the Yamanaka Clan's estate and requested to speak with the clan head. Inoichi Yamanaka invited him in.
The Yamanaka clan specializes in mind-based techniques, making them highly skilled in intelligence gathering, espionage, and interrogation. They're also known for sensory abilities and telepathic communication.
So, Inoichi asked the instructor, "What's the matter, Kano?"
Kano replied, "Today, something unbelievable happened—the legendary Wood Release is back, and it's in the hands of a Senju."
Inoichi was stunned but kept calm. "Explain clearly."
Kano continued, "I saw it myself in the Chūnin Exams arena. Ren Senju used Wood Release."
Inoichi was shocked but also excited. If this was true, then the Senju clan could regain its former glory, and Konoha would become stronger than ever.
"Summon Shikaku and Chōza. I need to discuss this with them immediately," Inoichi said.
Kano nodded and was about to leave when Inoichi suddenly asked, "What about our boy?"
Kano smiled. "Sanata has made it to the finals."
Inoichi gave a satisfied nod. "Good. I'll attend the finals in two days. Maybe I'll witness Wood Release myself."
Kano bowed and left to inform the other two.
Like that, over the next two days, the news began to spread, and soon, all the clans learned about me. Everyone was now looking forward to the Chūnin Exam finals.

Meanwhile, back in the tower, after the instructors left, the eliminated Genin were moved out. They were told not to lose hope—becoming a Chūnin wasn't just about combat ability. Overall performance would be taken into consideration.
The final eight participants, including myself, were moved into a special room. Each of us was assigned a single room, though I decided to stay with Kakashi and Guy.
Before we left the common area, I noticed everyone glaring at me.
They all knew I would be their toughest competition. Some were already strategizing in their heads, and most silently hoped they wouldn't have to face me in battle at all.
Now, I was meditating inside our shared room. Guy and Kakashi had gone out into the forest to train.
From what I'd seen, Guy had already gained control over the Fourth Gate, and Kakashi was very close to completing Chidori. He might even perfect it before the finals.
Thinking that, I closed my eyes and returned to my training.
While absorbing and refining Nature Energy, I used it to enhance my mind construct—the golden sphere within my Mind Palace. Inside it was a complete world of my creation. I had begun spreading Nature Energy through it too, and it was evolving beyond what I had initially planned.
Originally, I created it to store chakra through the Strength of a Hundred Seal. But now, it housed abundant Nature Energy—and Drake.
Drake had changed. He was no longer just a summoned creature or a chakra construct. He was something more—like a living being born of pure Nature Energy and chakra. Even if he vanished, I could summon him back easily.
I was currently experimenting with keeping him active at all times, using Nature Energy to sustain him rather than casting him like a jutsu that fades away.
Time passed like that. Each of the eight finalists was busy improving themselves—sharpening tactics, building strength.

Finally, the day of the finals arrived.
We eight were led by an instructor to the central tower. As we entered, I sensed what the others couldn't—the entire place had been redesigned in just two days.
I had already picked up on the construction sounds and layout changes through my sensory abilities. The others hadn't noticed anything, likely due to the heavy sealing barrier placed on the entrance door to block detection. But I easily bypassed that seal, thanks to my growing skill in Fuinjutsu.
I had already mastered intermediate-level seals. It was time to begin work on advanced-level ones.
Inside, the tower was transformed into a mini-stadium.
We stood on the first floor, overlooking the open arena space below where the matches would take place.
A small audience had gathered. Most were Chūnin, Special Jōnin, or full Jōnin. There were also grand seats—positions reserved for clan leaders.
Opposite the entrance, at the center of the first-floor balcony, were the Elder seats—three of them—and above those sat the Hokage's seat.
Every important figure in the village was present.
**Notable attendees:**
* Third Hokage Hiruzen Sarutobi (Sarutobi Clan Leader)
* Danzō Shimura (Elder, Shimura Clan Leader)

* Homura Mitokado (Elder)

Among the elite Jōnin present were Orochimaru, Minato Namikaze, and Jiraiya.
Every major player in the village was watching.
As soon as we final eight walked into the arena, every eye shifted toward me.
Tsunade smiled from her seat as she looked at me.
I didn't flinch under the attention.
Calmly, I walked to the center of the ground, where we were to receive instructions and the official announcement of the final matches.
