New life with a sci-fi system

Chapter 136: 132

The League has fallen out of favor from the public eye most News channels were blaming them for the current predicament. Not everyone agreed though some like Lois Lane one of the world's top reporters called it an unforseen complication. A few Thanagarian dignitaries did interviews with various news channels hopping to ease tensions. It did work for a time until a video was leaked online of a Thanagarian getting into a fight with the mutant known as Angel aka Warren Worthington the third. Apparently the offending Thanagarian originally thought that angel was one of them until he saw him healing someone. The Thanagarian tried to Arrest him and take him to a Thanagarian base but Angel fought him off.

This triggered the mutant community as Angel was a well established mutant hero long before the convergence. The once cooling tensions were now higher than before with speculation that Thanagarians randomly abducted people. There was no proof to the claims but that didn't stop conspiracy theories from popping up online. Ironically theory about birds not being real seemed to happen here except the claims were that they were Thanagarian spy cameras.

I was in the Philippines looking for Peggy Carter when I got to a bar upon realizing that she wasn't here I was about to leave when I felt the Force tell me to stay. Not long after Peggy showed up while I was nursing my drink waiting for whatever the Force had me here for. Even though I was clearly not one of the locals it seemed that she had yet to notice me or she was doing an extremely good job of pretending. I decided to not bother with stealth as that might set off alarm bells to someone on the run if she did notice. Without looking up she said...

Peggy: Sorry but, I'm not interested if you are here on some sort of sex vacation and looking for fun you're at the wrong bar.

"Good to know but that's not why I'm here..."

Peggy didn't even let me finish before taking a swing at me I stepped back just out of reach. Not letting up she followed her punch with a straight kick knocking me back. I tried to explain but she threw her beer bottle at me. Peggy was relentless it was clear she had been running for quite a while as she determined to either kill me or plotting her escape during the fight while leaving me no breathing room.

When Peggy saw that she couldn't eliminate me in a predetermined amount of time in her mind she immediately turned to escape fortunately I brought Barda who blocked the front door. Peggy didn't slow down intending to go through Barda but Barda wasn't an ordinary human, she was a New god. Barda seeing the charging war hero didn't even blink she just knocked Peggy out with a solid punch sending her through the bar counter. I tend to forget that she has gone toe to toe with Wonder Woman and Superman in comics.

I was worried that she accidentally killed Peggy for a moment and although theoretically if someone is resuscitated immediately as soon as they die they would be revived I don't want to test that. We were lucky though as turned out Peggy was only unconscious so I paid for the damages once I found the panicked owner and apologized. Barda carried Peggy to the house I rented once we arrived Barda dumped her on the couch I wanted to complain how she treated like a sack of potatoes; but apparently someone called the police and I had to explain a bit about what was going on.

"You can stop pretending to be unconscious although you probably shouldn't get up just yet. Barda hit you pretty hard and I'm not certain that you are you would let me treat you"

Rather than responding she just glares at me.

"I know that you don't trust me but you also didn't listen when I tried to explain"

Peggy: I'm sorry, did I hurt your feelings by not letting you do your Hydra sales pitch?

"Well at least you're talking but no I don't have Hydra sales pitch but if you want to talk about the Emperor of mankind..."

Peggy: ... you're Julian Black aren't you?

Realization dawned on her face as if she was seeing me for the first time. It appears that being constantly on the run for months left her paranoid and in a constant state of fight or flight. Her mind was hyper focused on survival that she didn't recognize me and was locked in threat assessment mode.
