Chapter 10: Chapter 10. Into the Nightmare Building
A few moments later, Dean stood in front of the unfinished construction building. He looked up at the higher floors where his map indicated a pinpoint.
[Ready?]
"Okay, let's start," Dean said.
"Whoosh!" A black, swirling vortex-like hole suddenly opened in front of Dean. He stepped into it and emerged in the nightmare world, where the skeleton of the building before him looked terrifying. Blood stained the floor, and bloody hand prints were on the steel beams. The entire building was fenced off with barbed wire, and bloody fragments of flesh still clung to the barbs.
"Okay, I'm going in," Dean said.
"Shriiing!" He drew his large scythe. Dean's attire transformed into a complete black suit with a tie, black gloves, and a black long coat. His once blue eyes turned red. Then he stepped inside. "Graaaah!" Several horrifying zombies immediately emerged from behind pillars to attack Dean. Casually, Dean swung his scythe, and several zombie heads instantly detached. After reaching the staircase,
"I wonder why I always have to fight zombies like this every time we want to meet a client," Dean asked.
[They are mindless evil spirits in the real world. Think of it as you cleaning this abandoned building in the real world. In every house, building, shop-house, or any structure, evil spirits are always present. Some are destructive, some just wander around. In the nightmare world, they always appear as zombies or ghouls.]
"Haaah... okay, okay," Dean replied.
Dean ascended the stairs. There were many zombies wearing construction worker clothes, foremen, school uniforms, thug attire, and many others. They also held weapons like large hammers, bricks, chains, and more. When Dean went up, they turned to look at Dean and "Graaaah!" they immediately ran towards Dean. Of course, Dean didn't stop walking. With one hand, he destroyed the zombies that came at him.
"By the way, where do these destroyed evil spirits go after they're destroyed?" Dean asked.
[They go into nothingness or emptiness. Just like the human souls I destroy, they are considered to have never existed at all and are erased.]
"Hoo... so Alex too?" Dean asked.
[Of course... and the man you destroyed this morning too. Only his corpse remains.]
"Hmm... okay, I get it. Good thing I used his corpse to send letters to his victims and apologize before leaving it in that rental house earlier," Dean said.
[That's just you being too kind. I'm just surprised you took his organs.]
"Huh... of course, I sold them! You don't give me money, and all I've been doing is cutting down debt. I need money for my life and my family, Laila... ah... my mom has been alone since Victor... ah, Dad died from being shot in the line of duty a few years ago, right? Besides, I still have a younger sibling in middle school. What are you talking about?" Dean ranted.
[Ah... okay, suit yourself. I won't interfere with your work as a professional organ supplier.]
"Thanks. Don't ask any more weird questions," Dean said, swinging his large scythe, destroying a zombie in front of him, and continuing to walk.
After a while of climbing the stairs, Dean finally reached the top floor, and the entire room appeared in black and white, as if time had stopped. "Plop!" NS turned back into his human form and walked beside Dean, using his cane. They saw a girl standing at the edge of the building, looking down. The girl wore a school uniform identical to Dean's, but it looked worn out.
"Jenna Anderson?" Dean asked.
Jenna turned and faced them, but she didn't move. Her hair was very long and blonde. Her eyes stared blankly at Dean, and her mouth was slightly open, yet she was very beautiful. Dean took a step forward and raised his hand. He placed it on Jenna's shoulder, and a hologram screen appeared before Dean. Before watching the footage, Dean glanced at Jenna's face to ask for permission to see her life's recording. Jenna turned to look at him, shed a tear, and smiled, then nodded. Dean smiled and looked at his screen.
Jenna died 15 years ago, murdered in that abandoned building by a man named Raymond. At that time, Raymond was Jenna's classmate, known as a bully. He targeted Jenna because she was the smartest student in her batch and was slated to receive a scholarship for college after graduation. Initially, Raymond intended to approach Jenna, who was indeed very beautiful and an idol in her class, besides being intelligent. But Jenna rejected him, and he started bullying Jenna cruelly, especially when he found out that Jenna's mother was hospitalized with cancer and Jenna worked after school every day to cover her mother's medical expenses.
Taking advantage of his father's position as the owner of the hospital where Jenna's mother was being treated, he pressured Jenna and forced her to be his girlfriend. Jenna couldn't refuse because Raymond threatened to stop her mother's treatment through his father's authority. Although it wasn't actually possible, Jenna didn't understand at the time and fell into Raymond's hands. However, her mother eventually died five months later, and Jenna asked to break up with Raymond. That's when Raymond started to destroy Jenna. She was drugged and raped by gang members paid by Raymond, then thrown from the top of the building, which was under construction at the time. The construction project stopped when Jenna's body was found lying below, shattered and unclothed, early in the morning.
The gangsters who raped Jenna and threw her from the building were caught by the police and punished for their actions, but the mastermind behind everything was not caught because the gangsters didn't tell the police anything, and when they got out of prison, they were paid by Raymond. After that, Dean and NS also saw what made Jenna's soul special. It turned out that Jenna was the only child of a woman who abandoned her in a trash can, and her mother, who died of cancer, was a nurse who picked her up and raised her and never married.
She continued to care for her mother and studied diligently because she was determined to make her mother happy in the future, as she had no idea who her real parents were.
"Okay, I've seen it," Dean said.
Dean saw Jenna's face, which now looked pleadingly at him, though she didn't say anything. Dean smiled and held Jenna's head.
"Don't worry, I will avenge you. I accept your request," Dean said.
"Whoosh!" A hologram screen appeared in front of Dean, displaying the data of his revenge "target."
