Chapter 16: Vivi -14
After a few words of praise toward her subordinates, Robin turned her gaze toward the duo lingering on the outskirts of the crowd, both wrapped in bandages and looking completely out of place.
Upon seeing them, Robin spaced out for a moment before suddenly calling out:
"Daz Bones, Zala… come with me. I'll take you to see the boss."
Mr. 1—also known as Bones—offered no objections. He merely folded his arms behind his back and followed Robin.
Zala, on the other hand, looked visibly shaken. She wasn't sure if the new boss was calling them in for revenge.
But when she saw her partner following Robin without hesitation, she hesitated for a few seconds, bit her lip, and trailed behind him.
"I just hope the new boss shows us some mercy… we're really not that strong."
...
Fortunately, Peter held no ill intentions toward them.
As he listened to Robin speak about the group, he casually dressed in the new clothes she had brought him.
Peter recalled this team from the anime. Though none of them were particularly remarkable, they still held a decent spot in the first half of the Grand Line—specifically, in Alabasta.
Handling a couple of rookies who had just entered the Grand Line would be a walk in the park.
"I'm willing to overlook your behavior last night… and let you continue working by my side."
Peter spoke as he tugged at his slightly tight shirt and furrowed his brow.
Zala's eyes lit up the moment she heard that—like she had just glimpsed hope for survival.
Bones, while remaining expressionless, felt a quiet wave of relief inside.
After adjusting his clothes, Peter continued:
"As long as the two of you complete a single task for me—bringing back Princess Vivi of Alabasta, who's currently hiding somewhere within the organization—I'll forgive everything."
"A secret agent in the organization… and she's a princess?!"
Shock was written all over Zala and Bones' faces.
Even Robin, standing at Peter's side, had a strange look in her eyes.
She had known about Vivi—the undercover princess—and had even guided her toward uncovering "Mr. 0's" true identity.
But she had only recently confirmed that. So, how on earth did Peter—who had never even stepped foot in Alabasta—know about it?
"If I'm not mistaken, she's currently in one of the agency's bases—Whiskey Peak, to be exact.
Your task is to bring her back, safe and sound. Got it?"
"Understood!" x2
Though neither of them knew how the new boss had acquired this intel, they accepted the mission without protest and set off immediately.
Peter nodded in satisfaction as he watched them gradually disappear on the horizon.
Yes… This is what power feels like. It's nice having underlings who follow your every command.
Even though Peter had already dispatched his new subordinates, he still wasn't fully satisfied.
He turned to Robin—the acting Vice President who had taken on most of the responsibilities after Crocodile's fall—and asked:
"You're able to contact all Baroque Works members, right?"
Robin nodded, immediately understanding his intent.
"I'll notify everyone about the leadership change as soon as possible.
Do you want to go by a codename, like Crocodile did? Or keep your identity a secret?"
"No need for that," Peter replied calmly.
Crocodile had hidden his identity for selfish reasons. Peter had no such motives.
"Feel free to tell them everything—who I am, how I defeated their former leader, Crocodile, and all the shady business he had going on behind the scenes.
It's better to expose his schemes in the open… let the people see the true heroes who liberated them from his oppression."
Robin looked at Peter's smug smile and couldn't help but feel a little sorry for Crocodile.
Not only had he been defeated, but even the small amount of reputation he had managed to build was about to be destroyed.
Poor guy… fate had made him cross paths with this cursed star, Peter.
...And then suddenly, something clicked in Robin's mind.
Wait—wasn't she the one who had brought this cursed star to Alabasta?
She had planned to use crocodile to eliminate peter, but she never expected it to go this far.
"Was I the one who brought this doom upon him?" she wondered.
Over the years, every organization Robin had joined ended up in ruins.
Even the Shichibukai—recognized by the government—hadn't escaped this fate.
So… would Peter meet the same end eventually?
As these thoughts raced through her mind, Robin's face unconsciously grew pale. She didn't even notice Peter trying to speak to her.
"Robin? Robin?"
After calling her name several times without a response, Peter lightly pinched her on the butt—snapping her back to reality.
"Ah… sorry. I was spacing out. Please, go on."
Peter noticed her unusual paleness but didn't press her. Instead, he simply repeated what he had said earlier:
"I was saying… the current structure of Baroque Works is actually pretty decent.
Especially the rank-based number system—it should be maintained going forward.
Also… I remember seeing a cute little girl with a parasol among the top agents. Find her for me."
The first request made sense—an acknowledgment of the organization's existing system by its new leader.
But the second made Robin arch an eyebrow and exhale in irritation.
"You perverted scumbag…"
Internally cursing him, Robin still accepted both requests and asked:
"Now that Port Bailangowa has been destroyed… where do we go next? Rainbase?"
Peter thought for a moment, then nodded:
"Yeah. Let's head to Rainbase and claim everything Crocodile left behind."
Recalling the massive casino Crocodile had owned, Peter scooped Robin up in his arms and joyfully made his way toward the shore.
Robin struggled for a second or two, but gave up soon after, realizing it was pointless.
...
Upon returning to the shore, the Baroque Works staff had already gathered, showing their loyalty to the new boss.
Peter didn't particularly care about these "small fry," but instinctively played the part and repeated a line from his past life:
"Thanks for the clothes. Stick with me, Phil—keep working hard."
Phil's eyes welled up instantly.
The other staff members stared at him with envious eyes.
And with Peter's rise as their new leader, morale soared. Everyone silently vowed to do their best to earn the boss's recognition.
