Chapter 29: World Government dogs -27

Let's go back to an earlier time.

Peter didn't wake up until noon. He handed Carina over to Mikita to take care of her and took Vivi from the office to ensure she had a place to rest. A little while later, Robin walked in, her face pale.

"What's wrong? Did we disturb you last night? You look really upset."

Peter, who had no idea what was going on, tried to make a joke when he saw Robin in that state.

But it was clear that Robin wasn't in the mood for humor. She answered in a hoarse voice:

"People from the World Government are here. They're Marine officers from CP0 and G22."

"Who?" A hint of surprise flashed across Peter's face.

He knew that G22 was a Marine branch that had jurisdiction over Alabasta.

Crocodile, one of the Shichibukai, had died within that jurisdiction. So, sending someone to investigate made perfect sense.

But… CP0?

Did they come to punish him? Or…

Peter looked at Robin thoughtfully, as she lowered her head, bit her lip, and her body trembled slightly.

He pulled her into his arms and gently stroked her hair.

"What are you afraid of? Don't you know how strong I am by now?

Even if a Marine Admiral showed up, I could crush him with one foot."

He recalled the terrifying destructive power he had unleashed as the giant ape that night…

Robin's cheeks flushed slightly, and she gave a shy smile and nodded.

"Go back to your room. Wait for some good news."

After patting her back gently, he let her go and went to meet the World Government delegates alone.

Back to the present.

Peter sat in his chair while two masked men in white suits stood before him. He studied their expressionless faces for a moment before speaking in a grim tone:

"Tell me, what do you lapdogs of the World Government want from me?

Though I can guess, I have nothing better to do at the moment—might as well listen to your nonsense."

Before either of the CP0 members could reply, Hina scoffed and sat on the sofa, crossing one leg over the other and folding her arms, silently observing.

Compared to the caution they had shown when meeting at G22, the two men seemed far more reckless in front of Peter, the one who had defeated a Shichibukai.

"Sand Ape Peter, your past is a complete mystery. Your identity, your race—everything about you is hazy. Since you killed Crocodile, the government has been investigating you, but they found nothing useful."

The man with the dog mask was the one speaking. Then his companion with the pig mask continued:

"And for killing Crocodile and defying the World Government, there were originally plans to place a bounty on your head.

But after reviewing your abilities, the government has decided to offer you a chance instead.

You are officially invited to fill the vacant seat and become one of the Shichibukai."

"That's all. Any questions? If not, your appointment will be announced tomorrow through the World Economic Journal."

Peter tapped his fingers on the table, staring at the two men while frowning.

From the moment they opened their mouths, Peter had felt uncomfortable.

"Sand Ape? What kind of stupid title is that? Who's the genius who came up with it?"

The two paused, clearly caught off guard, then one of them said:

"If you don't like the title, we can change it…"

"No, no, you're missing the point. My problem isn't just the title… I have an issue with everything you just said—including your so-called government."

He crossed one leg over the other, stood from his chair, and looked down at them from the stairs with disdain.

"Who the hell does this government think it is—to ask me to be its dog?

If you like being a dog, then be one yourself. As for me, I don't care about your Shichibukai titles."

As agents indoctrinated since youth to serve the World Government and the Celestial Dragons, Peter's words were nothing short of blasphemy to them.

Their faces changed behind the masks, and their tone grew colder:

"Are you saying you intend to defy the orders of the World Government?"

"That's exactly what I'm saying." Peter smiled, baring his sharp white teeth, clearly eager for a fight.

Just as Hina prepared to intervene, the man with the dog mask raised his hand to stop his partner and said:

"Calm down… don't forget our other objective."

Then he turned to Peter and asked:

"Since you refuse to become a Shichibukai, let's move on to the second matter.

The Devil Child, Nico Robin… she's with you, isn't she?

Hand her over, and the government will forgive all your offenses. No bounty will be issued for your head."

Peter's gaze grew colder.

"How dare you say that?"

He raised his left hand and extended his index finger.

In an instant, he fired a beam of light straight into the chest of the masked man.

It all happened in the blink of an eye.

The dog-masked man clutched his chest, where the laser had pierced through. After staggering a few steps, he collapsed, leaving a black and red stain on the carpet.

The pig-masked man was stunned, then instantly burst into action. His muscles exploded from his suit as he transformed into a boar-headed beast with a human body and lunged at Peter.

"You'll pay for that! Boar Fang Shot!"

He smashed Peter's desk in a single blow, his massive tusks aimed straight at Peter's chest.

But Peter easily dodged to the side, grabbed one of the tusks with one hand.

"A wild boar Zoan-type? Very fitting."

He looked at him with contempt, then crushed the tusk with his bare hand in front of the shocked beast's eyes.

And in the next second, a wretched scream echoed through the office:

"Aaaaah!!"
