Chapter 48: Peter × Mihawk -46
Every time the blade struck Peter, it was blocked by the white flames rising from the surface of his body—it couldn't harm him at all.
Despite the intensity of the battle, Hawkeye still found time to comment:
"What a strange ability... It's not Armament Haki, and yet it has comparable hardness."
Peter's face was full of excitement. His hands, feet, and even his tail were in constant motion as he replied:
"Whether I'm stronger or weaker isn't something you can determine so easily. By the way, I don't even know anything about the three types of Haki yet, so... you're the perfect training dummy."
Hawkeye scoffed:
"Impressive confidence… but your ability to learn depends on you."
Suddenly, he unleashed a massive sword slash several meters long.
But this time, Peter didn't retreat. He blocked the strike with his bare fist, and a glowing orb formed in his palm.
"You're not the only one who can strike from a distance. Try this: Royal Combat Style!"
In an instant, he fired a barrage of Ki bullets, each the size of a fist.
Hawkeye didn't underestimate it. Gripping the hilt of his black sword "Yoru" with both hands, he swung powerfully, releasing a wave that cut through the projectiles.
But the explosions erupted one after another, completely demolishing Krieg's worn-down ship and signaling the end of its remnants.
The shattered wooden planks crashed into the sea, causing Hawkeye to hesitate for just a moment. And in that brief second, one of the Ki bombs pierced through his defense and exploded right in front of him.
Hawkeye's expression changed instantly.
BOOM! BOOM! BOOM!
Dozens of explosions roared—more powerful than heavy cannons—covering his body with thick smoke and dust.
Peter hovered in the sky calmly, ignoring the sinking ship, his eyes fixed on the blast site, not letting down his guard.
"Come on out. I was holding back on purpose. There's no way the world's greatest swordsman would go down that easily."
On the shore, the faces of those barely standing from the shockwave turned pale.
Usopp screamed, freeing Luffy's arm:
"Is this real?! Someone launched that kind of attack after retreating?! Are they... human?!"
Nami was utterly terrified, hiding behind Luffy and Usopp, barely peeking her head out.
"Of course... they're human..." said Zeff, the owner of the Baratie, who had suddenly appeared beside them, arms folded, watching the battle intently.
"But they're not ordinary humans. The man with hawk-like eyes is one of the world's three powers… one of the Shichibukai – warlords recognized by the World Government."
He then added in a low voice:
"And the other, the one with the tail, is Peter. A rising star in the world of pirates. His fame exploded after killing one of the Seven Warlords... His bounty is 230 million Berries."
A stunned silence spread, followed by gasps.
Some thought they were dreaming. Others swore that if they survived today, they'd tell this tale for the rest of their lives.
Meanwhile, Vivi suddenly remembered who Hawkeye was. She leaned toward Carina and whispered anxiously:
"Come on, Peter… You're the one who defeated Crocodile—you can't lose. I always believe in you."
If Crocodile knew he was being compared to Hawkeye, he might've broken down in tears... out of gratitude.
As for Nami, she was lost in calculations:
"230 million... That's eleven times Arlong's bounty… What if I asked him for help? No, no... Even 100 million might not tempt him!"
She glanced sideways at Carina and the others, who clearly seemed to know Peter well.
"Maybe…" She didn't finish the thought, but the glint of greed flickered in her eyes.
Meanwhile...
Miles away, Perospero and Zoro were aboard a massive ship, silently staring at one another.
Zoro scratched his green hair.
"Weird… Did I board the wrong ship? This one looks way too sturdy."
He was completely unaware of the tense atmosphere.
He was surrounded by armed pirates, all waiting for Perospero's signal.
"Who are you, boy? How did you get on my ship?" Perospero asked as he approached.
Zoro innocently replied, eyeing the man with the long tongue:
"Your tongue's really long! Do you have some kind of illness?!"
"Answer me, you fool!" Perospero barked in anger.
"Impressive… You talk so much without biting your tongue. That's a talent. By the way… have you seen a guy with hawk-like eyes?"
"I'm the one asking questions here! Who are you?!"
