Chapter 39: Chapter 39
Franky had crossed the Calm Belt of the Grand Line with his parents as a child and arrived at Water Seven.
But at age ten, his parents deemed him too unruly and abandoned him there.
But in reality, according to the One Piece conspiracy theories he read before the transmigration, the time when Franky was abandoned coincided exactly with when Queen chose to join the Beast Pirates.
Franky's birth time also matched when Queen's child was born.
Combined with the ability to traverse the Calm Belt, Franky might indeed be Queen's child.
Of course, those were just conspiracy.
Looking at Franky who was exposing quite a bit of private areas, Monet turned her head away in disgust, while Jake smiled and said to Franky.
"The shipwrights of Tom's Workers not only possess first-class shipbuilding skills but also formidable combat abilities. The reason pirates don't dare come here is why we two can rest here for a while. But if any pirates do show up, believe me, we won't let the dock be damaged."
For someone like Franky who wasn't bad at heart but had an arrogant personality, the best approach was to speak softly and compliment him.
It required no personal sacrifice, wasn't overly submissive and could avoid unnecessary conflict.
After hearing Jake's words, Franky couldn't help but show a smile.
He rubbed the back of his head and coughed twice before saying.
"Though you talk pretty smooth, that's no excuse for you two to slack off! If I catch you chatting here again, I'll teach you a lesson and let you experience the might of Franky-sama!"
As Jake was about to respond, a calm voice sounded behind Franky.
"Franky, don't be so rude to others. You two must be the Marines Tom-san mentioned responsible for security near the back entrance of the workshop right? I've heard from Tom-san that you're both Devil Fruit users, correct?"
The speaker had a mature, steady voice and a serious appearance, paired with energetic blue short hair.
Jake immediately recognized him.
Iceberg, also known as Iceburg, one of the men who knew about the Pluton blueprints.
"Though I don't know how Tom learned we're Devil Fruit users, what you heard is correct. I'm a Mythical Zoan type and this lady here has the Snow-Snow Fruit of the Logia type. I'm Jake, she's Monet. If nothing unexpected happens, we'll be working together for quite some time."
Seeing Jake's polite demeanor, Iceberg's impression of him improved significantly.
Most Marines weren't particularly cultured, making communication difficult, so encountering an intelligent and polite Marine like Jake naturally put Iceberg in a good mood.
"I'm Iceberg, a disciple of Tom-san. That rude fellow earlier is Franky, also Tom-san apprentice. He tends to speak without thinking. If he offended you, I apologize on his behalf."
"Hey! bakaburg! Don't go making decisions for me! These two were just chatting here without any intention of working seriously. What's wrong with me teaching them a lesson?!"
Watching the noisy Franky beside him, Iceberg sighed helplessly and turned to Jake.
"Let's just ignore him for now. We're the ones troubling you all with this Sea Train operation. If there's anything you need, please don't hesitate to ask."
"No problem, it's our duty as Marines. Escorting such a groundbreaking Sea Train is an honor for us."
Seeing that neither Jake nor Iceberg paid him any attention, Franky's expression darkened.
For most men aged 16 to 26, being ignored was extremely infuriating.
And for Franky, who had never been particularly friendly since childhood, this was even more enraging.
He suddenly swung his fist at Jake.
However, Franky wasn't using his full strength—he just wanted to teach Jake a lesson.
Since Franky attacked from Iceberg's blind spot, by the time Iceberg noticed, it was too late to intervene.
He could only shout at Jake.
"Watch out!"
Iceberg was well aware of Franky's temperament and strength.
Though he knew Franky wouldn't go all out, Franky had always been physically stronger than most people.
Even a casual punch could knock out a Marine soldiers with ease.
While such an incident wouldn't cause serious harm, it would be embarrassing.
Moreover, both of them were Devil Fruit users with potential to become at least Marine Vice Admirals in the future.
It could also sour relations with the surrounding Marines.
Either way, it was a lose-lose situation.
But it was too late now.
Iceberg could only pray that Jake would come out unscathed—or at least not pass out outright—otherwise, he wouldn't know how to apologize.
Just then, a bone-chilling gust of wind swept through the area around Iceberg.
The cold was so intense it felt like it could freeze one's soul.
Having grown up in Water Seven, a summer island, Iceberg had never experienced such frigid winds before.
He instinctively shivered.
Along with the wind came a cold, feminine voice.
"If you don't want to be arrested on the spot as a pirate for assaulting a Marine, step back behind your companion right now!"
A menacing cold radiated from Monet.
Franky felt his limbs growing numb and sluggish, as if the wind scraping against his face were sharp knives, stinging his skin with every gust.
In just a second, Franky noticed faint white frost forming on his body.
His arms were going numb from the cold and tiny cracks lined with blood began spreading from his fingertips.
He looked up at Monet, whose expression was icy to the extreme, but instead of showing fear, he grinned and shouted.
"A Logia? I've been wanting to beat one up for a long time!"
With that, he charged straight through the blizzard towards Monet's direction.
Monet expression turned cold as she prepared to lower the temperature further when Jake's voice rang out.
"Franky-san, if you continue forward, I'll consider you a pirate and arrest you immediately."
