Chapter 40: Chapter 40
After being abandoned by his parents, Franky had developed a faintly rebellious personality.
If his parents abandoned him because he was too unruly to discipline, then he would make himself even more uncontrollable!
This led to Franky developing an extremely volatile temper.
Except for showing some restraint in front of Tom and Iceberg, he would immediately resort to violence with anyone else at the slightest provocation.
Thus, upon hearing Jake's warning—which wasn't even a real provocation—Franky could barely contain his rage.
His body, originally stiff from the cold wind, suddenly moved at more than double his previous speed.
"Hey! You lazy-ass Marine bastard! If you can do it, then show me!"
With that, Franky's fist—noticeably twice the size of an average person's—slammed straight towards Jake face.
Though Monet was the one attacking him, teenagers at this age still harbored an unwillingness to strike members of the opposite sex.
Seeing the fist rushing towards his face, a faint golden light flickered in Jake's eyes.
Even in the original story, Franky's modified body only matched the level of someone like Kumadori, whose Power Level was only 800.
Right now, without any modifications and as an ordinary shipwright, Franky natural physical superiority gave him strength roughly five times that of an average Marine soldier—a Power Level of 50.
After a morning of training, Jake had successfully increased his Power Level by 7 points, bringing it to 32.
Though still physically inferior to Franky, Jake noticed the skill glowing in his mind.
As Franky charged at him, he sidestepped slightly, evading the attack effortlessly.
The moment Franky lunged forward, Monet unleashed the lowest temperature she could currently produce.
While ensuring Jake's vision remained unobstructed, countless snowflakes obscured Franky's sight.
The sudden ice forming beneath his feet made him stagger, throwing him off balance.
Jake didn't miss this opportunity.
A thin layer of Armament Haki slowly coated his palm as a faint golden light wrapped around his fist.
He swung at Franky's chin while the latter struggled to regain his footing.
"Judgment Hammer Strike!"
The attack, carrying a forced airborne effect, struck true.
Franky was sent flying into the air by an irresistible force, accompanied by crackling arcs of pale blue lightning that enveloped his body.
The electric current was far from weak.
Suspended midair, Franky trembled violently as his hair stood on end, his skin showing signs of burns from the lightning.
Watching the electricity coursing through Franky, Jake felt a flicker of surprise.
He hadn't expected the passive ability Holy Light Infusion to trigger on the very first strike.
It's hard to say whether Franky's luck was good or bad.
The passive effects of "burning," "paralysis," and "dazzling" were immediately applied to him and they actually triggered in the very first round.
What's worse, the effect that activated was the most unbearable one—paralysis.
However, as Jake looked at the scorch marks left by the electric currents passing through Franky's body, he couldn't help but feel slightly surprised.
He hadn't expected that his Holy Light attacks would carry the properties of lightning.
He had originally assumed that the lightning formed by Holy Light was merely superficial, lacking any real effect.
But now, it seemed his Holy Light was practically a simplified version of the Rumble-Rumble Fruit!
Floating, paralysis, chilling and attacks imbued with Armament Haki—this relentless barrage of strikes plunged Franky's consciousness straight into darkness.
The moment Franky hit the ground, Jake had already flipped him over and cuffed his hands behind his back.
Watching Jake move with such fluid precision, Iceberg found himself at a loss for words.
Still, seeing the faint wisps of black smoke rising from his friend's mouth and smelling the unpleasant odor of singed hair, Iceberg finally spoke up, addressing Jake and Monet.
"I deeply apologize for Franky's offense toward you both! But please allow me to explain—Franky didn't truly intend to attack you. Though I know this may be hard to believe..."
Seeing the anxious expression on Iceberg's face, Jake smiled reassuringly and said.
"I trust that the members of Tom's Workers would never harbor hostility towards the Marines. I also understand that Franky-san likely acted out of emotional distress. However, to prevent similar incidents in the future, we must first consult our superiors before giving you a final response."
To further ease Iceberg's worries and those of the shipwrights gathering around, Jake added.
"Rest assured, the attack just now won't have any lasting effects on Franky. He'll wake up shortly. Even if we take him into custody, he'll be released after a basic interrogation. After all, assaulting a Marine—even without malicious intent—isn't something we can handle privately."
From a distance, Kizaru listened to Jake's words and couldn't help but smirk in his usual sly manner.
"What an amusing sight~" he mused. "Calming the crowd while ensuring the blue-haired brat takes the blame, all while shifting responsibility to the higher-ups. What a terrifyingly meticulous young man~"
"Still, that was quite the heavy-handed strike. Was it meant as a warning? How scary~ To master Armament Haki for practical combat in such a short time... His talent is downright frightening."
As he pondered, Kizaru slowly made his way toward Jake and the others.
He wasn't in any hurry to reveal himself just yet.
According to his Observation Haki, both Tom and T-Bone were present.
Kizaru was curious—how would these two handle the situation?
He had heard some things about T-Bone's character—extremely upright and strict.
He might severely punish Franky for his actions.
As for that guy Tom, he was once the one who built ships for the Pirate King.
Though merely constructing ships wasn't a major crime, if someone wanted to pursue it, sentencing him to death wouldn't be out of the question.
