Chapter 3: Chapter 3
Five days later, they finally arrived at Windmill Village. After eight days at sea, Ben set foot on his first destination in the One Piece world.
The moment he saw the map, his eyes lit up. The island was dotted with treasure chests of all sizes. He was itching to start opening them, but he knew he had to be careful. Disappearing right after arriving would raise suspicions, even with someone as carefree as Garp. And Garp wasn't as oblivious as he seemed.
"Ben, kid, you sticking with us or going off on your own?" Garp asked, still fond of the strange young man despite his odd behavior.
"I'll stick with you for now. I don't really have a plan yet," Ben replied casually.
No way I'm missing out on those Bronze chests near Dadan's place. With Garp and Dragon around, I won't get kicked out—or worse, beaten up by Dadan.
Soon, they arrived at Dadan's house.
"Hey, Dadan! Want some rice crackers?" Garp greeted her with his usual offer, as if he were trying to convert the world to his love of rice crackers.
Thud!
"The three brats are out. No idea when they'll be back. Wait here. And no, I don't want your rice crackers," Dadan said gruffly, placing three mugs of beer in front of Garp.
"Hahaha, you never change…" Garp launched into a conversation with Dadan, but Ben couldn't sit still. Two Bronze chests were in the house across the way, and the itch to open them was driving him crazy.
"Uncle Garp, I need to use the bathroom," Ben said, interrupting Garp's chatter.
"Out the door, turn left," Dadan said without looking up.
Ben slipped out and made his way to the house. According to the system, the chests were inside, but barging into Dadan's room was a surefire way to get himself killed. The thought of her wrath sent a shiver down his spine.
Better check out the other chests first.
He soon found himself in front of another house. A Bronze chest was inside. After a moment's thought, Ben activated the Mask of Deception and transformed into Dragon's likeness before entering.
"Treasure chest detected. Collect or open?"
"Open it."
"Congratulations! You have obtained a 'Golden Plot' from QQ Farm. It accelerates plant growth and improves their quality."
Ben's eyes lit up. This could be huge! He remembered the Forest of Gluttony on Boin Archipelago, filled with rare seeds. Usopp had used them to significantly boost his combat abilities.
Tucking the Golden Plot into his inventory, Ben turned to leave—only to come face-to-face with a trio of kids.
"Who are you? Why are you in our house?!" a young voice demanded.
"Luffy?" Ben turned to see the future Pirate King standing there, flanked by Ace and Sabo.
"You know me? Who are you?" Luffy asked, tilting his head in confusion.
While Luffy's guard dropped at the mention of his name, Ace and Sabo remained wary, their eyes narrowing.
"I came with your grandpa. He's with Dadan right now. He brought a ton of snacks and sent me to get you," Ben said, using Garp as his excuse.
"Snacks?!" All three boys' eyes lit up, and drool dripped from their mouths.
Luffy, being Luffy, took off running without a second thought. Ace and Sabo, knowing full well that Luffy would devour everything if they didn't hurry, quickly followed.
Once they were gone, Ben deactivated the Mask of Deception. There were only three chests on the island: two in Dadan's house and one here. With a sigh, he made his way back to Garp.
Back at Dadan's house, Ben found Garp in full grandfather mode, doting on the boys. Even Dragon, usually so aloof, had a softness in his eyes as he watched them.
A day had passed, and Ben still hadn't found a way to get into Dadan's room. The woman seemed to be glued to her house, more reclusive than the most hardcore shut-in.
Bored out of his mind, Ben sat alone in a tree, idly scanning the area. Suddenly, he noticed a small figure sneaking around. Squinting, he realized it was Luffy.
Wait, isn't he supposed to be out collecting treasure with Ace and Sabo to save up for their future pirate adventures?
Curious, Ben followed the boy. To his surprise, Luffy slipped into Dadan's house. What's he up to?
Watching Luffy stuff his arms with snacks and prepare to make a run for it, Ben couldn't help but smile. This is my chance.
He dropped down in front of Luffy and gave him a light thump on the head.
"Thud!"
"Ow! Who—? Oh, it's you, Ben! I, uh…" Luffy stammered, looking like a kid caught with his hand in the cookie jar.
"Stop right there. A real pirate doesn't sneak around like this. If you want something, you take it openly and proudly," Ben said, grabbing Luffy by the collar and dragging him back into Dadan's house.
"Dadan, look what I found," Ben announced, holding up a squirming Luffy.
"Let him go. I already knew he was here. I left those snacks out for him on purpose. Did he really think he could sneak past me?" Dadan said, her eyes still half-closed as if she hadn't a care in the world.
Hearing this, Ben released Luffy and led him outside.
"Let me go! I need to find Ace and Sabo!" Luffy whined as soon as they were out of Dadan's earshot.
Ben let him go. After all, he'd already gotten what he came for. The moment he'd entered Dadan's room, he'd discreetly collected the two Bronze chests. Now, he couldn't wait to get back to his room and open them.
Back in his room, Ben found Dragon sitting quietly in a corner. Not that it mattered—Dragon couldn't see the treasure chests anyway. Ben had tested this earlier, and it seemed only he could interact with them.
Plus, Dragon wasn't the talkative type, so he wouldn't disturb Ben's private moment with his loot.
"Alright, let's see what we've got. System, open both Bronze chests."
"Congratulations! You have obtained The Thirty-Six Stratagems, from Earth. This ancient text contains strategies and tactics used in warfare and diplomacy."
"Congratulations! You have obtained a Manual for Armament Haki Training, from the One Piece world. This manual was written by a renowned master of Haki."
Ben's eyes widened. This is incredible! Instantly, two books materialized in his hands, and the knowledge within them began to seep into his mind.
"Congratulations! The Progress Tracking function has been unlocked."
A new feature appeared in Ben's system interface.
Armament Haki Training Progress: 1/100Understanding of The Thirty-Six Stratagems: 1/100
Just then, Dragon glanced over at the books in Ben's hands. Sensing his curiosity, Ben decided to strike up a conversation.
"So, Dragon, what's your take on the world?" Ben asked casually.
Dragon was taken aback. "My take? I fight for my own sense of justice. That's all."
Ben didn't respond immediately, just smiled knowingly.
"If you have something to say, say it. Don't just stare at me like that," Dragon said, his voice low and gravelly.
"I don't like the world as it is. My dream is to overthrow the Celestial Dragons and create a new system—one where every leader, in every branch of the World Government, is elected by the people. Elections would be held every three years…"
Ben shamelessly borrowed ideas from modern democratic systems, knowing full well that Dragon would eventually found the Revolutionary Army.
