Chapter 24: Chapter 24: Fleet Admiral Sengoku Was Shocked
"Hurry, let's go!"
The moment Doflamingo returned to his ship, those were the first words out of his mouth.
When it came to someone like Noah, Doflamingo knew full well he couldn't afford to mess with him. If you couldn't win, you run. That was his policy.
"Master...?"
Torrebol stared at Doflamingo, stunned.
Why did it feel like their boss had just returned from hell?
Then again, facing a monster like that... wasn't it the same as facing hell?
"Have Vergo look into Noah."
"That man is no ordinary officer."
"He might be even more terrifying than the Admirals."
Doflamingo managed to steady himself as he spoke.
Just being on that ship had felt suffocating, like standing in hell itself.
Being next to that man, every muscle in Doflamingo's body had been pulled taut. Even when facing a Yonko, he'd never felt this kind of pressure.
It had to be a natural kind of suppression.
After all, they were pirates. Noah was a Marine.
Of course a mouse would fear a cat.
"Yes, sir!"
Torrebol quickly nodded.
In fact, Torrebol's evaluation of Noah had just skyrocketed.
He really couldn't figure it out. If someone like that existed in the Marines, why wasn't he already famous? Even here in the New World, where pirates reigned supreme, the number of pirates this guy had taken down could be counted on one hand.
After all these years, they'd barely heard Noah's name before.
.....
Watching Doflamingo rush off in a panic, Kizaru found the whole thing a little underwhelming.
Why run off so fast?
He was hoping to squeeze in a bit more small talk before letting the guy go.
"Noah, little brother, the Marines aren't supposed to go after the Warlords right now," Kizaru reminded him.
He could tell that Noah didn't take the Warlords seriously at all. He felt it was necessary to give a little warning.
If Noah really did take action against a Warlord, things would get complicated, even for Kizaru.
Besides...
Doflamingo had powerful backers.
Backers from the Holy Land of Mariejois.
That made it even harder for Kizaru to deal with.
"Relax, I've got no interest in taking him out," Noah replied casually. "But the Warlords are getting too cocky. Someone needs to keep them in check."
Doflamingo wasn't even worthy of Noah lifting a finger.
And the other Warlords? Even less so.
Noah wasn't looking for promotions or pay raises.
Why give himself extra trouble?
"..."
Kizaru nodded. That was the Noah he knew.
Just giving Doflamingo a little scare, huh?
A subtle warning, telling Doflamingo not to cause trouble again?
Kizaru felt like he understood Noah's true intent now.
Not bad at all.
Compared to all those half-baked efforts to slack off... this was a much smarter play.
"Noah, Vice Admiral, we've retrieved Weevil," Hina reported as she approached.
That brief rest had helped her recover quite a bit. At least she didn't have to lie flat on the ground anymore.
She'd seen Weevil's strength for herself.
And now, her goal was to surpass someone even stronger than Weevil.
That was the target she aimed for.
"Let me see."
Noah turned to look.
Several Marines were struggling to carry Weevil over in shackles.
The guy was massive, and heavy in a very real way.
Just one or two Marines couldn't carry him on their own.
"Severely injured and unconscious, huh?"
Kizaru raised an eyebrow.
He hadn't expected Noah to be this powerful.
He'd just walked up and flattened a monster like Weevil.
That guy was the same one who had badly injured Zephyr back in the day.
But in front of Noah, he wasn't even worth mentioning.
"At least this'll keep him quiet for a while," Noah nodded.
He didn't want to fight again.
If the guy was this hurt, even if he woke up, he wouldn't be able to resist.
Honestly, if he hadn't injured Zephyr, Noah might've considered tricking him into joining the Marines as a glorified attack dog.
Seriously.
The sea was that chaotic.
Such a pure-hearted pirate, misled by an evil old hag...
It was the perfect example of how messed up the world really was.
"Let someone come retrieve him," Noah said, glancing at Kizaru.
Kizaru sighed helplessly.
Wasn't he supposed to be the Admiral here?
And yet this Vice Admiral was ordering him around like a subordinate.
........
In his office, Fleet Admiral Sengoku sat hunched over paperwork, a sheep lazing by his side.
He was overwhelmed. The mess of discarded files at his feet only grew.
The sheep took a step forward, lowered its head, and started munching on the papers without a care in the world.
Important or not, it didn't matter.
As long as it was edible, that was all it needed.
Lately, this sheep had started to change.
It used to be a peaceful herbivore.
Now, it had basically become a paper-devouring beast.
Barely ate any grass anymore.
All day, it just ate documents.
It was getting full just from chewing reports.
"Buru buru buru..."
The Den Den Mushi on Sengoku's desk began to ring.
He lifted his head, dark circles under his eyes.
Life was tough.
Especially now that both Garp and Kuzan had taken off.
Only one Admiral remained at Marine Headquarters.
Sengoku didn't even know what to say anymore.
But the tasks still had to get done.
He picked up the Den Den Mushi.
"Fleet Admiral Sengoku!"
The transponder snail immediately morphed into Kizaru's face.
Sengoku recognized it instantly. That smug expression was unmistakable.
"Kizaru, weren't you with Noah heading to the New World?"
Sengoku paused, then asked.
Why was Kizaru calling now?
Did Noah bail halfway through?
Did he not want to go to the New World?
"I am. We're in the New World now," Kizaru said, scratching his head.
"Good. So, what happened?"
Sengoku let out a sigh of relief.
As long as they made it to the New World, it was fine.
What he feared most was Noah slacking off, refusing to go.
Even if the chance was small...
This was Noah they were talking about.
The strongest loafer in all the Marines.
"We ran into a pirate on the way."
"Edward Weevil. He charged at our warship."
"And then... Noah Vice Admiral took care of it. We've captured Weevil."
Kizaru summarized the situation in two short sentences.
The full story was a bit more complicated, but Kizaru couldn't be bothered to explain it all.
