One Piece: Lazy Admiral with a Multiverse System

Chapter 26: Chapter 26: Whitebeard: That’s Definitely Not My Kid

"Sengoku! What made you think that?"

"You know my personality better than that."

Zephyr let out a quiet laugh as he spoke in a deep, steady voice.

He didn't bother addressing Sengoku's distrust, because frankly, from any angle, it was understandable. Right now, even he wouldn't bet on himself being the most rational man in the room.

So he got it, he didn't blame Sengoku.

"Then go," Sengoku said after a brief pause, nodding with reluctant approval.

Zephyr turned and walked out, a storm of killing intent hanging over his expression.

As he stepped outside, his eyes landed on the cigar Noah had given him.

Then his thoughts shifted to Noah capturing Weevil.

"That brat Noah really delivered me quite the gift."

"Well, if that's the case, I'm not the stingy type either."

Zephyr's eyes narrowed slightly.

If you asked who held the most influence in the Navy right now, the answer wasn't Sengoku or Garp. It was Zephyr.

After all, the Navy's entire current backbone, most of its rising stars had been trained directly under him.

Everywhere he went, he was addressed as Instructor Zephyr.

Not even Garp and Sengoku could compare.

Zephyr was the Navy's true hidden boss.

"The voices supporting Noah within the Navy are still too quiet," he muttered to himself.

"Besides, he doesn't even have a team behind him yet."

"In that case, kid… this old man will lend you a hand."

Without hesitation, Zephyr began contacting his former students.

Whether or not Noah captured Weevil for his sake didn't matter anymore.

What mattered was that Noah had avenged the deaths of an entire ship of Marines from years ago.

If those men had died in battle against pirates on the open sea, Zephyr might not have felt such deep resentment. Maybe some grief—but not hatred.

But those Marines had barely grown.

They were kids, taken out on a mission with him, and ambushed before they could even fight back.

Slaughtered. Completely wiped out.

That pain had never left Zephyr.

Now, he wanted to clear a path for Noah.

Whether Noah ever chose to become an admiral wasn't the point.

What mattered was that at least one-third of the Navy's support could soon be behind him.

In time, Noah could stand shoulder to shoulder with the three Admirals.

At the very least, he would reach Garp's level of influence.

"Sengoku, you're not the only one who knows how to nurture talent."

"Noah is technically my student too."

"And just giving him a path without backing means nothing."

Zephyr had made up his mind.

He knew he wouldn't be able to serve as Admiral again in the future.

So from this moment on, all his connections, resources, and influence would go to Noah.

He would help make Noah the next great Admiral.

Maybe even the next Fleet Admiral.

Sengoku still had time left in his tenure, maybe another ten years at least.

But when that time came, Zephyr was betting everything on the one person who could carry the torch.

...

With Kizaru's position confirmed, Sengoku wasted no time.

He spread the news.

Years ago, Weevil had dealt a devastating blow to the Navy.

But now, they had wiped away that humiliation with a clean victory.

The Navy had risen again.

The whole organization erupted in celebration.

The moment they heard the news, most Marines were stunned.

Those who knew Weevil's strength understood how unbelievable this feat was.

Many elite soldiers had tried to bring him down before, hoping to restore the Navy's honor,

but they all failed.

Now Noah had done what none of them could.

"He really is something else. Vice Admiral Noah accomplished what others couldn't."

"Seriously. He's not far from being an Admiral now."

"I thought he refused the promotion?"

"Come on, you think anyone can really say no to becoming an Admiral?"

"Hell no! I'd give anything to reach that rank!"

"Exactly! Every Marine dreams of becoming an Admiral. Noah probably just felt he lacked the seniority or feared others wouldn't accept him yet."

"Plus, Sengoku asked in front of the whole world. That kind of pressure…"

"Yeah, I get it now."

"But we better remember this: we're backing Noah to become the next Admiral!"

"Definitely! Under Admiral Noah's leadership, the Navy will flourish!"

Among the crowd were Zephyr's own students,

planting seeds of support and building momentum.

Noah's current prestige within the Navy still wasn't enough to convince everyone.

What he needed was someone like Zephyr paving the way ahead of him.

Even other Vice Admirals started leaning in Noah's direction.

Many of them had previously stayed neutral,

not wanting to get dragged into the political battles between the Navy's more radical factions.

But now that they'd seen Noah's potential,

they were eager to stand by his side.

...

The news quickly spread across the seas.

To the average citizen, it was little more than an eyebrow-raising headline.

They didn't grasp the significance of capturing Weevil.

At most, they just saw one less pirate threatening the world.

But the pirate crews?

They knew better.

Many had tried to recruit Weevil before, and they had a decent grasp of his monstrous strength.

"The Navy's stirring the pot again."

"Trying to craft another hero?" Marco muttered casually, glancing at the paper.

They knew how the Navy operated.

And while they couldn't stop them from creating hype,

neither did they want to risk picking a fight over it.

"But this kid really does have potential," Whitebeard said, staring at Noah's picture.

"Huh? Pops, you see something?" Marco asked in surprise.

Was there something deeper going on?

"Weevil's a monster," Whitebeard said after a pause.

Marco froze.

"Wait... are you saying he's actually your son?"

The idea had always seemed absurd.

But thinking about the timeline,

Weevil had supposedly been born right around the time of the God Valley Incident.

Give or take a few years—it matched.

It felt like Marco was brushing up against some uncomfortable truth.

"You idiot," Whitebeard laughed, shaking his head.

"Don't spout nonsense."

He was surprised Marco even cared about this sort of thing.

"Weevil's origins are… complicated," he added with a sigh.

He didn't want to elaborate.

To the average person, Weevil looked like his exact replica.

But there were layers to this.

Things that didn't add up.

"What's bothering me more is Ace."

"I still don't know where he is."

Whitebeard's eyes drifted to the Den Den Mushi beside him.

It had been quiet for too long.

They'd been trying to reach Ace, but nothing.

No word, no contact.

That gnawed at Whitebeard's nerves.

It didn't feel right.

"Didn't Ace say he found Blackbeard's trail?"

"Maybe he's still chasing that traitor."

"You're overthinking, Pops," Marco replied with a nervous smile.

He had a bad feeling too,

but he didn't want Whitebeard to worry,

so he kept reassuring him.

Ace was completely off the grid now.

And even Marco had no way of reaching him.

"Yeah, guess all we can do is wait," Whitebeard muttered.

"That bastard Teach…"

He clenched his fist, eyes fixed on the silent Den Den Mushi.

Wishing, just once, that it would ring.

Even just a brief report would be enough, anything to know Ace was still okay.
