Chapter 36: : Shadows Over Alabasta
Chapter 28One Piece: Legacy of the Pirate King
The desert winds of Alabasta had not forgotten the footsteps of legends.
It was here that Luffy once fought Crocodile.
Here that Vivi had once stood against war to protect her kingdom.
And now… another D. was returning.
But Alabasta had changed.
The golden dunes were quiet. Too quiet. The capital, Alubarna, showed no flags. And the once-lively rain-season canals now ran with ash-colored water.
The Arrival
The Red Spirit docked at Nanohana Port under the blistering sun. The port was abandoned.
Shops broken. Boats half-sunk. Not a soul in sight.
"Something's wrong," Rin muttered, blades already in her hands.
Lucien sniffed the air. "No smoke… but the wind smells burnt."
Sera looked up. "They've erased more than people. Even the memories here are fractured."
Lian stepped off the ship and felt a pulse under his boots—like the ground itself was whispering. The desert was breathing secrets.
In the Capital – Alubarna's Palace Ruins
The once grand palace stood shattered. Ancient murals were slashed. The royal crest of the Nefertari family had been torched.
But carved into the floor in haste—like someone left a message before being taken—was a symbol:
A crescent moon beneath a flame.
Sera crouched beside it.
"This is part of the Glyph of Truth… modified."
Rin stood at the entrance. "Someone tried to warn us. Or guide us."
Lucien cocked his head. "Any idea who?"
A low, broken voice echoed from the shadows.
"I did."
The Return of Koza
The former rebel leader, Koza—now old, grizzled, and partially blind—stepped into the light. His left arm was gone, replaced with a rusted mechanical prosthetic.
"Mister Luffy's son," he rasped. "I'd know that grin anywhere."
Lian smiled, then grew serious. "What happened here?"
Koza coughed. "They came a year ago. The ones with black sails. They didn't kill… at first. They wiped. People began forgetting their own names. The king… the generals… even Vivi…"
He closed his eyes.
"She vanished. I think she's still alive—but trapped beneath the palace. Somewhere deep… where the Poneglyphs sleep."
Sera's eyes widened. "The Memory Cistern…"
Journey Below
Beneath the throne room, hidden under layers of stone and time, lay a vast underground labyrinth. Walls carved with swirling scripts that shimmered only under moonlight.
As they descended, visions flickered in the corners of their eyes.
Lian saw his father sitting beside Vivi, laughing.Sera saw the moment Ohara burned.Rin saw a battlefield soaked in endless red.Lucien saw a woman's face—his mother's, perhaps?—reach for him, then vanish.
"It's showing us what we forgot or never knew," Sera murmured.
At the deepest chamber, they found it.
A sealed vault.
Guarded by a machine shaped like a sand cobra, powered by ancient energy.
On it, three words burned:
"REMEMBER. OR PERISH."
The Cobra Awakens
The guardian serpent attacked instantly—hissing plasma, sandstorms, and mirage illusions.
Lucien's fire passed through it.
Rin's blades missed as it flickered like smoke.
Sera tried a Chrono glyph—but the cipher twisted itself.
"They encoded it in forgotten dialects!"
Lian gritted his teeth.
Then—he stepped forward alone.
Closed his eyes.
And whispered: "I remember what my father stood for."
The moment he touched the sand, it stopped.
The cobra froze.
Then bowed.
The Vault Opens
Inside was Vivi.Suspended in a stasis glyph. Eyes closed. Breathing. Alive.
Above her floated a memory shard—golden, pulsing.
Koza stepped forward and wept.
"She gave herself to protect us. Locked herself away so they wouldn't steal the truth in her heart."
Sera studied the glyph. "This shard holds her most important memory. Possibly… Joy Boy's final message."
Lian looked at his crew.
"We're taking it."
But the moment they lifted the shard—
The sands above exploded.
Attack From the Armada
Black-sailed ships circled Alabasta.
Shadow warriors descended from the skies, their eyes glowing violet.
Leading them was a woman in full armor—long silver hair, black wings on her back, and the mark of the Void Throne across her chest.
"Return the memory," she ordered. "Or we burn what's left of this kingdom."
Lian stepped forward.
"I'm not giving you a damn thing."
Lucien lit his hands.
Rin drew both swords.
Sera's eyes glowed.
Mimi piloted her mech into position.
And Lian raised the Rising Flame Flag for all of Alabasta to see.
