Chapter 70: Chapter 70: Doflamingo’s Anticipation
Rim moved swiftly. While the overseers were busy hauling ivory back and forth from the ships, Rim and his crew had already commandeered a pirate vessel. The sight of the fishmen aboard the ship was enough to halt the Neptune Army's calls for reinforcements.
With the newly captured pirate ship and the two merchant ships they'd purchased, there was more than enough space to transport over two thousand fishmen. Jack selected two hundred of them to serve as the Mammoth's crew and decided to send Holdem and the rest to the Ailen Island to join King. That area desperately needed manpower to oversee the slaves, and Jack was certain King would be deeply moved by the reinforcements.
Besides, letting these fishmen experience the thrill of subjugating human slaves would greatly strengthen their allegiance to the Beasts Pirates.
Since the coating and modifications on the ships would take a few days, Jack ordered his crew to stock up on supplies. He also gave everyone some time off to settle personal matters and scout for more fishmen willing to join the Beasts Pirates.
Five days later, the two hundred new fishman recruits had bonded with the veteran crew over several days of feasting and drinking. The awkwardness between them had melted away, and the atmosphere was harmonious. It was a promising start.
Jack turned to his nephew, Zeo, his expression unusually serious. "Are you sure you won't come with me?"
Zeo shook his head, glancing back at a group of companions huddled in a corner. "No, Uncle Jack. I prefer staying with my friends."
"Sigh..." Jack was silent for a moment, then placed a heavy hand on Zeo's shoulder. "Alright, but remember my Den Den Mushi. If you ever need help, call me. And if anything happens here, I want to know immediately."
Zeo nodded firmly. "Don't worry, Uncle. I will."
As Jack watched Zeo and his companions fade into the distance, a rare pang of reluctance gripped him. Perhaps Zeo was the only family left from this body's previous life.
"Jack-sama! All the supplies are ready. Shall we set sail?" Holdem's voice broke through Jack's thoughts as he approached with Finder in tow.
Jack turned his gaze to Finder, his tone sharp. "Finder! These fishmen need your guidance now more than ever. You've heard about the ways of the Beasts Pirates, haven't you? I expect you to keep them in line. I don't want to see anyone losing their lives due to stupidity."
Finder nodded solemnly. "Understood, Jack-sama. I'll handle it."
"Good." Jack's eyes shifted to Holdem. "Tell King that the rest of the fishmen can be assigned as needed, but Finder stays with me from now on. Also, be careful on your journey. Report any trouble immediately."
"Understood!" Holdem saluted before departing.
The number of fishmen joining the Beasts Pirates had grown by another six hundred, bringing the total to around three thousand. Thankfully, there was enough room aboard the ships, and fishmen weren't overly particular about their accommodations.
After Holdem and his group departed, Jack glanced at the beautiful and striking female fishmen among the recruits. His eyes lingered for a moment on a few towering over four meters, before he leapt aboard the deck.
"Alright, you lot! Set sail!"
As they left Fishman Island behind, Jack thought to himself: One day, I will return here.
...
The Grand Line
Located about a week's journey from the Sabaody Archipelago, this remote island lay in a sea where habitable land was scarce. Few ships ventured here, but those who did would discover remnants of human civilization scattered across the island.
Currently, over a thousand pirates were gathered on the island, feasting and reveling. They clinked mugs of ale, tore into roasted meat, and erupted into raucous laughter at crude jokes.
On the fourth floor of one of the buildings, a man with short blond hair stood by the window, silently observing the scene. He wore red-tinted sunglasses with a white frame, a black suit, and a pink feathered coat draped over his shoulders. The outlandish combination didn't make him look ridiculous—on the contrary, it amplified his sinister and commanding aura.
This man was Donquixote Doflamingo, the infamous head of the Donquixote Family.
"Hey, Doffy!" A nasally voice called out, snapping him from his thoughts.
Doflamingo turned to see Trebol standing uncomfortably close, and a vein bulged on his forehead.
"Back off, Trebol!"
"Hehe... So, what's the plan? Those two are getting impatient," Trebol said, wiping at the mucus dripping from his nose. "Should we just take care of them?"
"No." Doflamingo's tone was firm. "Kaido specifically instructed us to leave those two for Jack to handle."
Trebol scratched his head, puzzled. "I don't get it, Doffy. Why go through all this trouble to gain their trust, lure them to the Grand Line, and then leave them to Jack? What's the point?"
"Trebol... Step further back," Doflamingo said irritably before returning to the window. "It's because Kaido has high hopes for Jack. He wants him to become the third All-Star of the Beasts Pirates."
He continued, his voice dropping slightly. "In the Beasts Pirates, strength is everything. But being an All-Star requires more than just power. It demands achievements that command respect."
"Those two may not be top-tier fighters, but with Ostec and Lynstan's backing, they've been a persistent thorn in Kaido's side. If Jack takes them out, it'll solidify his position."
Doflamingo's gaze darkened. "Our alliance with the Beasts Pirates is critical for the Donquixote Family's plans. Kaido is a monster, and we need to stay on his good side. So, we do what's asked of us. No more, no less."
He glanced at Trebol. "Tell those fools that the shipment is delayed due to naval interference. That should keep them in line for now."
Trebol nodded and turned to leave, but Doflamingo's voice stopped him.
"Trebol, did you know? That Jack is only fourteen years old."
Trebol's jaw dropped. "Fourteen?! Doffy, are you kidding?"
"I'm not." Doflamingo's grin widened. "A fourteen-year-old who can handle two awakened Zoans? Even I would approach that fight with caution. What kind of monster earns Kaido's favor like this?"
Suddenly, the Den Den Mushi in his pocket rang. He picked it up, his expression sharpening.
"This is Doflamingo. Jack? Understood. Everything's ready. They won't escape."
After hanging up, Doflamingo turned to Trebol with a smirk. "Let them know the goods will arrive soon."
As he looked out the window at the rowdy pirates below, an unsettling excitement flickered in his eyes.
"A fourteen-year-old All-Star... I'm intrigued. Just what kind of talent does it take for even Kaido to show favoritism?"
His laughter echoed through the room.
"Fuffuffuffuffu!"
