Chapter 10: Chapter 10: Monk Urouge
The Waver is the preferred vehicle on Angel Island, and it is said to take ten years to learn how to drive it.
However, Asa believes that if Nami—who is not yet born—can quickly master it, then his balance and skills shouldn't be inferior. Moreover, after living on Gaya Island for five years, he's accustomed to observing sea currents, making navigation second nature.
After all, Asa had been a street racer for some time, able to ride a motorcycle with no hands (though he admits this stunt cost him two motorcycles and a stern scolding from his father). Additionally, when training his body, Asa has always emphasized control over brute strength, knowing that neglecting technique could have fatal consequences.
If a Waver appeared in front of him now, he'd be ready to hit the road immediately!
Asa scratched at the white bird-like wings on his back, frowning with mild frustration. The last thing he wanted was to interact with the Sky Islanders, but without their help, obtaining transportation would be impossible.
"Chug, tug, tug, tug!"
The roar of an approaching vehicle—akin to a motorcycle—broke Asa's train of thought. His eyes lit up, and a smile spread across his lips.
He had been wondering how to deal with the Sky Islanders to secure a Waver, and now it seemed the solution had arrived on its own. Asa stretched his limbs and jumped from the soft cloud sofa, hiding behind a pavilion to observe the newcomers approaching over the white sea.
Using his heightened sensory abilities, Asa listened closely, picking up on their numbers and conversation.
"Boss Urouge, the God's Guard is too arrogant! With your strength, becoming their captain would've been easy, but they're too blind to see it and refuse to join you!" complained one of the riders.
The Waver carried two passengers. One was a tall, muscular man over three and a half meters in height. He looked to be in his twenties, with a rugged face, a beard, and wings on his back. The other was of average height, appearing to be in his thirties. Despite the age difference, the latter deferentially addressed the taller man as "Boss Urouge."
"Urouge?" Asa's ears perked up, and his mind raced. From afar, the towering figure had seemed familiar, but now he was certain—it was Urouge, one of the Eleven Supernovas of the future, known as the "Mad Monk" and the captain of the Fallen Monk Pirates.
Urouge's reputation preceded him. With a bounty of 108 million berries, he would one day defeat one of Big Mom's top generals. As a native of Sky Island, his wings were unmistakable, and Asa also recalled that Urouge was a Devil Fruit user. Though the fruit's name was unknown, its ability allowed him to convert damage into increased size and strength. The more harm he took, the stronger he became.
At present, however, Urouge seemed yet to acquire his fruit's power. Asa reasoned that if Urouge had the fruit already, he would have challenged Gan Fall for leadership long ago.
"Well, it doesn't matter," Urouge replied with his characteristic calm smile. "Whether I become part of the God's Guard or not, it's no big deal."
Urouge's unchanging smile and unflappable demeanor unnerved his companion, who could only suppress his frustration.
The Waver sped across the white sea, continuing deeper into Angel Island without stopping. Asa frowned. Missing this opportunity to obtain a Waver meant waiting indefinitely for another Sky Islander to cross his path. He couldn't afford that.
Making a quick decision, Asa removed the wings from his back and hid them in the clouds. Covering his face with his shirt, he darted forward to block the path.
"Shave!"
With a burst of speed, Asa appeared before the two riders. Before they could react, Asa's fist connected with the smaller Sky Islander, sending him flying. The force of the blow knocked the man unconscious, leaving him sprawled on the ground, barely breathing.
"Aberu!" Urouge yelled, his smile faltering for the first time. Despite his size and strength, Urouge wasn't yet the formidable fighter he would become. He could only watch helplessly as his companion was struck down.
"You're not from the Blue Sea, are you? Why are you attacking us?" Urouge asked, his ever-present smile masking his anger.
Asa's voice was cold and detached. "So what if I am? As for why I attacked—let's just say I need to borrow something."
Urouge's eyes narrowed as he replied, "Then you can go join Aberu in the afterlife!"
The towering monk lunged, his imposing physique radiating power. But Asa's keen observation skills and agility allowed him to sidestep Urouge's punches effortlessly.
Grabbing Urouge's arm, Asa struck his elbow with a precise blow. The bone cracked audibly, rendering the limb useless. A sweeping kick sent Urouge sprawling to the ground, defeated.
