One Piece: Revenge of the Slaves

Chapter 135: OPRS: Chapter 135

The villagers' fear of the fish-men vanished; they dropped their muskets; the elderly and infirm reloaded, while the young men charged with pitchforks—Alistair's plan. His ship had swords, but those were for naval boarding actions.

Pirate swords were long and sharp; in close quarters, you had to worry about injuring yourself or your crewmates; in boarding actions, you had to grapple and swing across the enemy ship. They couldn't be too thick, large, or long. This was a necessary trade-off at sea, but on land, a Navy sword might be inferior to a pitchfork. This was the reality; spears replaced halberds for a reason; armies used spears, not swords, for a reason. On the battlefield, length is power. A pitchfork would strike faster than a sword.

Arlong, seeing the villagers charge, his eyes blazed. Seven or eight of his injured crew, still alive thanks to their resilience, charged first. But the villagers weren't the same sheep. After two volleys, they were wolves!

Thirty villagers, each with a pitchfork, surrounded a fish-man, striking simultaneously; his injured body could only block one; the others pierced him easily. The long, thin pitchforks easily impaled them; blood gushed from a dozen wounds.

"Damn humans!" Seeing his men slaughtered, Arlong couldn't raise his saw-toothed blade; he swung it, creating a strong wind. It would have cut the charging villagers in half. Everyone gasped, expecting three deaths.

But Arlong's blade stopped; a katana blocked it. "You…woman," Arlong looked down, seeing Tashigi. She was thin and weak, but stronger than the men.

"I understand Alistair's justice," Tashigi said, meeting Arlong's gaze; her eyes, behind her glasses, were sharp, decisive, unlike her usual self. "Defeating evil is justice. It's not about the Navy, pirates, or any group." She parried Arlong's blade.

"Arrogant girl!!" Arlong scoffed; he believed fish-men were superior. But having traveled the Grand Line and interacted with Fisher Tiger, he knew this was a falsehood; countless strong beings existed; fish-men only had the advantage of the sea. In a battle, fish-men struggled against Devil Fruit users, even trained humans.

As Tashigi blocked his attack, Arlong recoiled; her blade struck his chest.

"Too shallow! Amateur!!" He punched Tashigi, sending her flying into a tree, cracking it; leaves fell. Tashigi coughed up blood.

"She's not ready," Hina said, watching Tashigi. Smoker saw more. "This is your goal," he said, watching her transformation. She'd found her path. She no longer needed the Navy. He trembled, shouting to mask his unease. "This is your justice, Alistair?!"

"Shut up and watch," Alistair waved dismissively. "A rare gem is being polished; a diamond is emerging; your shouting is ruining the moment. This is her debut."

Tashigi wiped her mouth; the blow had shaken her, but she stood, her Kiyomitsu in hand, fighting for her beliefs. She'd wanted to strike this blow since hearing of Arlong's deeds. She'd held back for so long.

Most weren't truly evil; a warning sufficed; but Arlong and the pirates were different; he was a monster!

Her eyes blazed; her grip relaxed, showing newfound understanding.

"Die, woman!" Arlong swung his blade; he didn't dare use his teeth or nose. Cowards strike the weak; the strong strike the strong.

Tashigi didn't retreat; she charged; Kiyomitsu, like a white streak, severed Arlong's arm before his blade reached her. The blade flew, lodging in a tree. Arlong roared in pain, clutching his bleeding shoulder. "Damn it!!!"
