Chapter 136: OPRS: Chapter 136
"Hatchan!" Nami encountered Hatchan at the port. She stared in disbelief at the sea beast, Sheep, and Hatchan, half-submerged in the water. "Hatchan, what are you doing here?"
"Arlong said Cocoyasi Village was attacked; we're here to help; Kuroobi's trapped; we're destroying their ship first."
Destroying ships was a common fish-man tactic against humans; except for Ace's ability to boil the sea or Enel's powerful electric attacks, most lacked countermeasures. Devil Fruit users lose most of their abilities in water; physical fighters lose half their strength. This tactic should work perfectly. Fish-man karate is twice as powerful in water; Arlong, using guerrilla tactics, could avoid fatal blows. They could always escape. Jinbe, leading the Sun Pirates against Big Mom, escaped unscathed despite being outmatched. Fish-men had a significant advantage at sea.
Nami noticed a large, flagless ship at the port.
"Let Sheep watch here; let's help Arlong."
"Nya~ Okay." Hatchan, not very bright, forgot about Sheep, nodded, and followed Nami, six swords in hand.
Both felt uneasy; whoever had defeated Kuroobi was formidable; but the village was eerily quiet, only one house destroyed; it was like a ghost town. The silence was unsettling.
Sheep, seeing them leave, curiously climbed onto the ship; its size was comparable to the ship; it might sink it.
Enel, gazing into the distance, felt a weight; Sheep nearly crushed him. He looked down, meeting Sheep's gaze; Sheep, instinctively, knew it couldn't fight him. It fled into the sea. Enel watched the unfolding drama with interest.
"Nojiko!" Nami, with Hatchan as bodyguard, ran to Nojiko's orange grove. The door opened; Nojiko pointed a musket; seeing Nami, she hesitated.
"Nojiko!" Nami was surprised to see the children there. "What happened to everyone?"
Nojiko was about to speak when Hatchan entered, making her change her expression.
"They're in the fields; I hid the children; Nami, this…"
"Hatchan, nya." He scratched his head. "Go help Arlong; I'll calm them down!" Nojiko's expression betrayed something; Nami sent Hatchan away.
"Nya, okay, Nami, hurry back~ nya." He left, closing the door.
Nami whispered, "Nojiko, what happened?"
Nojiko quickly recounted the events, shocking Nami.
"You're crazy!" Nami whispered urgently. "Didn't you try fighting Arlong?" "It's suicide; I have to…"
"Too late, Nami!" Nojiko grabbed her arm. "Everyone's had enough! Don't you understand? They couldn't afford it without your money; they pretended nothing was wrong. Now, with weapons, no one regrets, no one fears death; even me, even them." She pointed to the children, who stood tall, courageous, meeting her gaze. Nojiko collapsed, crying, "You fools! Why are you so stupid?!"
"Arlong…" Hatchan arrived to find the battle over. Arlong, despite a severed arm, tried to bite Tashigi. But you don't bite a swordsman. Tashigi's strike nearly decapitated him; only a sliver of flesh and bone connected his head and shoulder; if she'd been stronger, his head would have been off.
Arlong, no longer clutching his shoulder, clutched his bleeding neck, staggering back, collapsing. Tashigi, blood-soaked, stood menacingly; the villagers were stunned. They were frozen.
"Wait, I'm sorry!" Arlong shouted, retreating. "Spare me! I won't do it again! I'll never appear before you again! Please!"
