One Piece: Shadow Sovereign

Chapter 3: Chapter 3: Arrival at Shells Town

The waves continued to guide Luffy's small boat across the vast ocean. Days had passed since his first encounter with pirates, and his newly summoned shadow soldier stood silently at his side like an ever-present guardian. Though its form was still crude and featureless, Luffy felt a sense of security having it around. It was a reminder that his power was growing, even if only slightly. Each time he glanced at it, he was reminded that he had taken his first step toward mastering the Shadow Monarch System. But he knew he was still weak. He needed more power. Much more.

During these days, he also confirmed something crucial—he had not eaten the Gum-Gum Fruit. His body was not rubber. There was no Devil Fruit power coursing through him. This realization was both a relief and a concern. He would not be cursed by the sea, but he would also lack the unique abilities the original Luffy had. He would have to rely entirely on his own strength and the system to survive.

His gaze shifted to the horizon, where the silhouette of an island began to form. Shells Town. The name rang familiar in his mind, pieced together from both his partial knowledge of this world and Luffy's fragmented memories. This was where he would meet Roronoa Zoro—the first true companion he would recruit in his journey to become Pirate King.

The thought of meeting Zoro stirred a mixture of excitement and calculation within him. He remembered the swordsman's loyalty, his strength, and his unyielding will. A man who would one day be feared across the seas. But this world was different now. Luffy was not the same naive boy from the original story. He had a system, knowledge of what lay ahead, and a darker side that he needed to control. Would Zoro accept him as he was now? Would he be repulsed by Luffy's growing ruthlessness?

The boat nudged against the docks with a gentle bump. Luffy stepped off, his straw hat casting a shadow over his eyes. His shadow soldier dissolved into the ground, merging seamlessly with his own shadow. He had learned that it could hide within his own shadow until summoned again, making it the perfect tool for stealth and ambush.

Shells Town bustled with activity. Fishermen hauled in their daily catch, merchants called out to potential customers, and townspeople went about their lives with a subtle air of unease. Marines patrolled the streets, their pristine uniforms a stark contrast to the rough townsfolk who kept their heads low. Luffy could see it in their eyes—fear. Captain Morgan ruled this place with an iron fist, his ego and cruelty poisoning the town.

Luffy walked through the streets, taking it all in. He overheard whispers of Zoro—the demon chained in the Marine base's courtyard. His reputation preceded him. Some called him a monster, others a hero. Luffy smirked. He knew the truth. Zoro was a man of honor, bound by his code and loyalty.

Finally, he arrived at the Marine base. The sun was merciless, beating down on the open courtyard where Zoro was tied to a wooden post. His green hair was messy, his body battered, but his spirit was unbroken. His eyes, fierce and defiant, glared at the world around him. A warrior through and through.

Luffy leaned casually against the fence, arms crossed, eyes fixed on the swordsman. He let a grin creep onto his face.

"Oi, you're Roronoa Zoro, right?"

Zoro's eyes shifted toward him, narrowing slightly. His voice was hoarse but strong. "Who's asking?"

Luffy tilted his hat up slightly, revealing his eyes. "I'm Monkey D. Luffy. I'm going to be the Pirate King. Join my crew."

There was a pause. Then, Zoro chuckled—a dry, humorless laugh. "You've got guts, kid. But I don't plan on dying with a pirate's name on my record."

Luffy's grin didn't waver. His eyes, however, burned with resolve. "You won't die. I'll make sure of that."

Before Zoro could reply, a Marine guard approached, his face twisted with suspicion and annoyance. "Get away from him! This is Marine property!"

Luffy raised his hands in mock surrender, taking a few steps back. He had no intention of fighting now. This was not the time. He needed to gather information, understand the situation fully, and plan his move.

Later that evening, as the sun dipped below the horizon, Luffy returned under the cover of darkness. The streets were quieter, the air cooler. His shadow soldier emerged once more, slithering beside him like a living shadow. Together, they moved with purpose, avoiding the patrols with practiced ease.

Reaching the courtyard, Luffy crouched beside Zoro, who was barely awake but still alert.

"I'm getting you out of here," Luffy whispered.

Zoro's eyes flickered with curiosity and caution. "You're serious, huh?"

"Yeah. But I need you to trust me," Luffy said firmly.

There was a brief pause, then Zoro gave a slight nod. "Fine. But if you screw this up, I'll cut you down myself."

Luffy grinned, showing his teeth. "Deal."

With his shadow soldier standing guard, Luffy worked quickly, loosening Zoro's bindings. The swordsman winced as he stretched his stiff limbs, his muscles aching from days of confinement. But his spirit remained unyielding.

Suddenly, the sound of approaching footsteps broke the silence. Marines.

Luffy's eyes sharpened. He leaned closer to his shadow soldier, his voice a whisper but filled with authority.

"Take them down. Quietly."

The shadow melted into the ground, blending seamlessly with the night. Moments later, muffled grunts and the sound of bodies hitting the ground confirmed its success.

Zoro watched in shock, his hand resting on his side where his swords would normally be. "What the hell was that?"

Luffy met his gaze, eyes glinting in the moonlight. "Just part of my power."

Zoro didn't press further. He was a man who respected strength, and Luffy had shown plenty of it.

Together, they slipped into the shadows of the town. Each step forward was a step into a future neither of them could fully predict. But one thing was certain—their journey had begun.

And as Luffy adjusted his straw hat, he knew that his first true ally had joined him. This was only the beginning.
