Chapter 4: Chapter 4: Captain Morgan's Wrath
The morning sun had barely risen over Shells Town when the news spread like wildfire. Roronoa Zoro had escaped. The townspeople whispered nervously, casting wary glances toward the Marine base. Captain Morgan would not take this lightly. His wrath was infamous. Those who had seen his brutality knew that his punishment could extend beyond the guilty—it often bled into the innocent.
Luffy and Zoro hid in an abandoned shack near the outskirts of town. The shack was small and dusty, with wooden planks that creaked under their weight. The air smelled of damp wood and decay. Zoro was resting, regaining his strength after days without proper food and water. Luffy sat nearby, leaning against the wall with his straw hat pulled low over his eyes, chewing on a piece of stale bread he had swiped from a careless vendor. His shadow soldier lingered nearby, hidden in the darkest corner of the room, its presence faint but reassuring.
Zoro finally stirred, his eyes opening slowly, adjusting to the dim light filtering through the cracks in the shack. He glanced at Luffy, observing the calm demeanor with which his newfound companion carried himself. "You really did it," Zoro muttered, his voice rough from dehydration and fatigue. "You broke me out."
Luffy smirked, tearing off another piece of bread. "Told you I would."
Zoro pushed himself up against the wall, wincing as his sore muscles protested. "You're not like any pirate I've met before," he said, his eyes narrowing slightly. "That power you used last night… what was it?"
Luffy paused for a moment, his smirk fading into a more serious expression. "It's my power. Something unique to me," he said vaguely. He wasn't ready to reveal everything just yet. "You'll see more of it soon enough."
Before Zoro could press further, the sound of heavy boots and shouting echoed through the streets. The ground seemed to tremble beneath the weight of the approaching Marines. Captain Morgan stood at the center of it all, his towering frame cutting an imposing figure. His massive axe-hand gleamed in the sunlight, and his face was twisted with rage. "Find them! Bring me their heads!" he roared, his voice carrying through the town like a thunderclap.
Luffy peeked through a crack in the wall, his eyes narrowing. "They're getting closer."
Zoro glanced around the room, his hand instinctively reaching for his swords, but he found nothing. His frustration was evident. Luffy noticed and tossed him two blades he had taken from the Marines the night before. "These aren't yours, but they'll do for now."
Zoro accepted them with a nod, his grip tightening around the hilts. "Thanks."
Luffy stood up, his posture relaxed yet ready. "We're not running. We face them head-on."
Zoro grinned, his fighting spirit ignited. "That's more like it."
As the Marines approached their hideout, Luffy summoned his shadow soldier. It rose from the ground, its form flickering like a dark specter. Zoro's eyes widened briefly, but he quickly refocused. He had made his choice to follow this strange, powerful man. Whatever this power was, it had already saved his life once.
The door burst open with a loud crash, and the first Marine charged in. Zoro met him with a swift strike, his borrowed blade cutting through the air with precision. The Marine fell to the ground, clutching his chest and groaning in pain. Luffy dashed forward, his fist connecting with another Marine's jaw. The impact was brutal; the Marine was sent flying backward, crashing into the wall with a heavy thud.
Captain Morgan appeared at the doorway, his face contorted with fury. He loomed over them like a beast ready to strike. "So, you're the ones causing trouble in my town!" he bellowed, his voice dripping with menace.
Luffy stepped forward, his gaze steady. "I'm Monkey D. Luffy. And I'm going to be the Pirate King."
Morgan sneered, his eyes filled with contempt. "Pirate King? You're just a brat. I'll crush you like the insect you are!"
The battle erupted. Morgan swung his massive axe, the blade slicing through the air with deadly force. Luffy dodged with ease, his movements fluid and precise. He could feel his training paying off. Zoro engaged the other Marines, his blades dancing with lethal grace. Each slash was calculated, each strike deliberate.
The shadow soldier flanked Morgan, its blade-like appendage slashing at his legs. Morgan stumbled, cursing as he tried to defend himself from both Luffy and the shadow. His rage turned to desperation as he realized he was being overwhelmed.
Blow after blow, Luffy and his allies pressed the attack. Morgan's strikes became wild, his composure crumbling. Finally, Luffy saw his opening. He delivered a devastating punch to Morgan's jaw, the force sending the captain crashing to the ground. His axe-hand dug into the dirt, his body motionless.
Silence fell over the area. The remaining Marines hesitated, their weapons trembling in their hands. Their morale was shattered.
Luffy stood tall, adjusting his straw hat with a confident smile. "Tell your superiors—Shells Town is free from Morgan's tyranny."
The Marines exchanged nervous glances before retreating, dragging their unconscious captain with them.
Zoro sheathed his borrowed swords and turned to Luffy, his eyes filled with newfound respect. "You're something else, Luffy."
Luffy grinned, his eyes reflecting his unyielding spirit. "Glad to have you on my crew."
As they left Shells Town, the townspeople emerged from their homes. Their expressions shifted from fear to awe and gratitude. Whispers of hope spread among them. For the first time in years, they felt free.
Luffy and Zoro walked side by side, their journey truly beginning. The path ahead was uncertain, but together, they would carve their way through the world.
