Chapter 9: Chapter 9: First Mission.
Fire Fist!
Standing at the bow of the boat, Kaelen Tsukishiro's right fist shot forward, striking a dog-headed Sea King hundreds of meters long, choking it with precise power.
"Old man Rayleigh, you're not leading me astray, this area has faced more than a dozen waves of Sea King attacks."
Kaelen fell back onto the deck, grumbling in frustration.
"That's normal, this is the Calm Belt, the Sea Kings' lair."
Lying back on the deck, Rayleigh rested his head on his hands, eyes half-closed, enjoying the sunshine.
"Don't worry, we'll reach Nine Snake Island soon enough."
"Alright, you're the seasoned sailor here, I'm just following your lead."
With that, Kaelen continued powering the sailboat using his Flame-Flame Fruit abilities combined with a special device.
The Calm Belt, true to its name, is completely windless. Any ship passing through must have independent navigation capabilities or harness the power of Sea Kings—like Nine Snake Island does.
'The Flame-Flame Fruit... this guy has no idea what kind of monsters he's dealing with.'
Rayleigh glanced at Kaelen with a complicated expression, part embarrassment, part respect.
He thought of Kaelen and Ace—their strength and reckless spirit.
Mastering the Flame-Flame Fruit is a process of cultivation and understanding.
Kaelen's decision to accompany Rayleigh to Nine Snake Island had been his own, not driven by the allure of the world's most beautiful woman.
---
At the farthest coast of Nine Snake Island, a small clearing had been isolated a few days ago to house Law, Luffy, and Jinbe.
Kaelen and Rayleigh had arrived there not long before.
Rayleigh was speaking with Luffy while Kaelen wandered idly nearby.
"What's up, Trafalgar Law?"
Leaning against a tree, Kaelen yawned lazily as he looked over.
He speculated about Law's intentions.
"Excuse me, Kaelen San!"
With a cold voice, Law stepped out from behind a tree, his expression indifferent, his long sword slung over his shoulder—cool and imposing.
"Nothing serious. Just say if there's something you need."
Kaelen waved his hand casually, though inwardly he mused: Law is clearly a lone wolf, but two years ago, he was taken under Luffy's wing.
Law's past was a mystery, but the bond with Luffy was undeniable.
"I wonder if my arrival will disrupt Law's fate?"
Kaelen wasn't sure if his presence would affect the fragile relationship between Law and Luffy.
But considering their shared history, it seemed unlikely.
While Kaelen's thoughts ran wild, Law spoke calmly:
"I want to confirm whether what Kaelen said at Marineford is true."
"If the price is right, you would kill even a Celestial Dragon?"
Law's eyes locked on Kaelen's without expression.
Yet beneath the surface, Kaelen sensed Law's urgency and hatred.
'Law clearly has deep betrayal towards Corazon's death and loathes Doflamingo to his core.'
Kaelen raised an eyebrow, unusually serious.
"As a bounty hunter, credibility comes first. As long as the price is met, killing a Celestial Dragon is just another job."
Law was silent.
Kaelen's nonchalant attitude, as if Celestial Dragons were mere chickens to slaughter, seemed to unsettle him.
Reading Law's thoughts, Kaelen rolled his eyes in irritation.
"Forget the pleasantries. Just tell me who you want dead, and I'll give you a price."
Law hesitated, unsure how to respond. What should be a grave matter now felt like a casual transaction.
Isn't hiring an assassin supposed to be a serious process?
Why does this feel like haggling at a market?
"That man's name is Donquixote Doflamingo, one of the Seven Warlords of the Sea under His Majesty."
Taking a deep breath, Law spat out the name carefully.
"He also holds the identity of a Celestial Dragon."
Mentioning 'Celestial Dragon', Law's face grew solemn.
These are the pinnacle of power in the world—unignorable forces.
Even though Doflamingo was expelled from the Holy Land, his status remained.
"Right, you're honest."
Kaelen's reaction was flat, surprising Law with its calmness.
Law felt a strange contrast between his expectations and Kaelen's response.
He even seemed slightly shocked.
"I'll take the job. Poison, ambush, sniper shot, drowning, headshot, dismemberment... How do you want him dead?"
Law was stunned.
After hearing Kaelen list so many brutal options, cold sweat dripped down his forehead. He could no longer keep his usual cold expression.
Have times changed so much? Are bounty hunters now this... unconventional?
Wiping the sweat, Law regained composure.
"Don't complicate it. Just kill him."
Hearing this, Kaelen nodded.
"You decide. After killing Doflamingo, I'll bring his body to you."
"As for the payment…"
