Chapter 10: Chapter 10: Narcissism
"As for the reward, I only ask that you let me stun you twice."
Law remained silent.
After a few tense seconds, he waited for Kaelen's offer, but when it came, Law was left speechless, choking on the shock and feeling a wave of frustration.
What did it mean to stun him twice?
Law had countless ways to knock someone out but didn't know how the advantage of this.
It felt pointless and tedious.
"Could it be some kind of nerve damage? Why does this guy seem a bit unreliable?"
Law's mouth twitched, and he eyed Kaelen suspiciously, clearly troubled.
"Kaelen, are you serious?"
"My request is simple. If you agree, we have a deal. If not, forget it."
Kaelen's tone was calm, tinged with a slight sadness.
"..."
Law was silent for a moment.
To him, Kaelen's offer seemed absurdly cheap, almost a joke.
After all, he was one of the Seven Warlords of the Sea, a sea lord and a renowned powerhouse, with a strong crew under him.
Capturing such a dangerous target couldn't be underestimated.
If it weren't for Kaelen's ability display of power in Marinford, and his seemingly unfathomable strength, Law would have thought Kaelen was teasing him.
What good does stunning give?
Maybe it's just Kaelen's personal quirk or bad taste.
Anyway, there's no loss, maybe it'll really work…
After much hesitation and unable to find any ill intent in Kaelen, Law finally agreed. If stunned, it was just a deep sleep.
"I accept your terms."
Law's words were reluctant, but the determination behind them was clear.
"Don't worry. Within two years, I will deliver Doflamingo's body to you."
Kaelen chuckled and nodded, then suddenly glanced behind Law: "Old Man Rayleigh!"
"Huh?"
Boom!
Law instinctively turned, only to feel a sharp pain at the back of his head. Darkness flooded his vision as he fainted.
His expression as he fell was a complex mix of shock, confusion, and anger.
Before losing consciousness, he vaguely heard Kaelen say, "Since the deal is made, let's charge a handling fee first—don't want to lose out if you die on me."
Damn it, Kaelen Tsukishiro was no ordinary man.
Was this even something a human should be saying?
...
"You're still too young; your strength and skill aren't enough. I should give you a free lesson today."
Kaelen murmured to himself, retracting his fist.
With his strength, Law couldn't block the sneak attack and was down in seconds.
Soon Kaelen frowned slightly.
"Sure enough, the experience from forced 'corpse touching' is far less effective than touching an actual corpse. I wasn't able to get his ability, so the yield is reduced."
Kaelen's reason for stunning Law was simple. Knock him out then try to get the Op Op fruit.
His system work on not just the dead but also unconscious bodies.
The downside was that the yield decreased when the target was merely unconscious, as Law was now.
That's why Kaelen asked to stun Luo twice—to maximize the effect.
In two years, when Law grew stronger, Kaelen could try again.
The man's calculation was sharp indeed.
...
Rustle.
A cool sea breeze swept in from the ocean, swaying the trees.
The sky glowed brilliantly with the afterglow of sunset, reflecting on the sea like sparkling jewels.
"Hmm…"
Law opened his eyes on the grass, feeling his head pound, and groaned involuntarily.
Before he could think much, an irritating voice sounded nearby.
"Oh, you're awake!"
"It took long enough. Your resistance to blows is too weak, and your body defense is poor. You really need to train properly!"
Law turned toward the voice and saw Kaelen Tsukishiro casually lying on a large tree branch with a blade of grass in his mouth.
His headache worsened.
Thinking of the 'help' Kaelen had given him, Law grit his teeth in hatred.
"Hey, don't look at me like I'm a cannibal. This was just a handling fee. When the job's done, I'll collect the rest."
"..."
Law said nothing and stared at Kaelen silently.
He regretted working with Kaelen; it felt like a mistake compared to aligning with the Straw Hat Pirates.
Still, Law acknowledged Kaelen's strength.
Law was naive. If Kaelen knew his thoughts, he would just smile quietly.
Compared to Kaelen, Luffy was the real wild card, infecting everyone around him.
Nothing dangerous would threaten them.
"I know I'm handsome, but you're no beauty, so stop staring."
Kaelen called down from the tree again.
Law: "..."
You're so narcissistic.....
Law mentally labeled Kaelen several times.
He then looked away, said nothing, and sulked toward the station.
Comforting himself, he thought, Kaelen's a bit neurotic, so there's no need to care too much.
"I always thought this guy was cursing me. Maybe it was just my imagination."
Watching Law's retreating back, Kaelen muttered softly.
