Chapter 23: Chapter 23 A Meal
The expression on Kizaru's face didn't change. His eyes hidden behind his sunglasses gave no clue as to where he was looking this time.
"The same kind of person? Haha, is this what Kael was talking about?"
As he spoke, he pointed his finger, and a cross-shaped golden light flashed at his fingertip. Some diners who noticed the movement looked at the light and covered their eyes.
Akainu crossed his arms and said seriously:
"Borsalino, don't use your powers here!"
The light at Kizaru's fingertip vanished instantly. He stood, clasped his hands, and bowed apologetically to the diners around him:
"Ah, I'm really sorry everyone, I got a bit too excited."
After saying this, some returned to their seats. When Kael looked again, he froze. He saw Kael's pupils spinning like two whirlpools, emitting an almost imperceptible suction force.
Kizaru felt instinctively uneasy while watching. He averted his gaze he didn't want to look into Kael's eyes again.
Akainu also noticed something strange in Kael, though he didn't feel anything unusual.
Kael's eyes returned to normal, he smiled, and praised:
"What I saw a moment ago was probably your ability, Borsalino-senpai. What a magnificent power."
Kizaru didn't answer but, in a relaxed manner, said:
"Brother Kael is someone with abilities too. What a terrifying ability. Could you tell me what your power is?"
"For now, that's a secret. Anyway, we'll meet again soon. Senior, how about waiting a bit?"
"Haha of course!"
Kizaru didn't care. Obviously, the fewer people know about the fruit's power, the better. From Kizaru's perspective, Kael had only shown a small part of his ability he hadn't revealed what kind of fruit it was.
But Kizaru never thought Kael would be a time traveler, and he already knew a lot about him and Akainu.
They stopped discussing the topic and began chatting. Thanks to Kael's attentive guidance, the atmosphere became harmonious. Even Akainu who rarely spoke took the initiative to say a few words.
Once all the food at Kizaru's table was served, the two tables began sharing dishes eating items not on their own orders. Reluctantly, Akainu gave one of the two large bowls of white rice he had ordered to the bear.
Ginny's huge mouth and powerful appetite turned adult man Akainu competitive. Even though Ginny ignored him, deep inside, he wondered how a man could lose to a "woman" so much weaker than him in eating! He completely forgot his original warning, "Don't eat too much," and entered a silent competition.
After finishing the last barbecue plate, Akainu looked with satisfaction at the piled plates before him and glanced at Ginny. That look instantly surprised her. The pile before Ginny was like a mountain, yet her mouth was still busy. She grabbed a large piece of meat and bit into it.
Kael and Berro were long used to such situations. Berro had already turned toward the Bible, while Kael was still helping Ginny with her grilling.
Akainu touched his swollen belly and silently bowed his head, accepting defeat.
Seeing Ginny eat the barbecue with such enthusiasm, Akainu couldn't help but smile it was surprising for a girl to eat that much. He didn't feel lost instead, he felt extremely relaxed. For Kizaru and Akainu, who usually kept to themselves at school, this experience was truly new.
After countless barbecue plates, Ginny joyfully grabbed a napkin and wiped her mouth. When she lifted her head, she saw Kael and the others smiling at her. Two blushes appeared on her beautiful pale face. Leaning against Kael, she whispered:
"Why are you looking at me like that? The food here is way more delicious than in Sorbey Region, so I can't stop eating before I've had enough..."
Kael gently squeezed Ginny's cheek and smiled:
"Alright, eat more if you want. There'll be plenty more chances like this in the future."
Kizaru raised his hands and timidly said:
"Let me warn you Teacher Zephyr is very strict. Sakazuki and I haven't gone out in two months, so you'd better be mentally prepared."
"Huh? Why's that?"
Ginny's mouth twisted, and she suddenly sensed a dark future.
Just as Kael was about to comfort her with a few words, something occurred to him, and he said happily:
"No problem! Berro is here we can run away if we want!"
The bear lifted the cushions in his palms, showing he was always at their service and would help her.
Kizaru and Akainu noticed the bear's gesture as well. They looked at each other, and Kizaru whispered:
"Is this also an esper? The newcomers today are really frightening!"
When it was time to go pay, Kael waved his hand and placed a large stack of bills on the counter. With great pride, he said to the cashier:
"I'll pay for the consumption at these two tables. Any extra should be considered a tip."
Over the years, Alexandro had sent Kael hefty allowances. In fact, the amount he sent was astronomical. For example, considering the salary Kizaru will earn as a future Admiral after working diligently for 180 years that would only account for a small portion of Kael's allowance.
Moreover, Kizaru was still a student. He mentally calculated how many bananas Kael could buy with those bills.
Sakazuki suddenly said in a serious expression:
"Kael, Borsalino Kael said he's treating us this time."
"Sakazuki, you're talking way too much today. I still prefer your usual quiet self."
"?"
Only God knows how much Kizaru wanted to hit Akainu. He pretended to take out his wallet and looked at the cashier with a smile.
Kael held his hand and said seriously:
"I already paid. I'm really glad to meet these two seniors. I wanted to show my gratitude!"
Kizaru's hand "slipped," and the newly drawn wallet fell back out of his pocket.
"Brother Kael, you don't have to be that polite what's there to be grateful about? From now on at school, address us by our names! Right, Akainu?"
Akainu watched Kizaru's actions, rolled his eyes, and looked away indicating he didn't recognize this embarrassing man.
After saying farewell to Kael and his group, Kizaru and Akainu returned to the school dormitory. Before they even digested what they'd eaten, someone knocked on the door:
"Borsalino, Mr. Zephyr wants you to come to his office."
