One Piece: Trainer of Kings

Chapter 50: Chapter 50: The Going Merry's First Battle

BOOM!!!

A crimson cannonball suddenly screamed through the morning sky, arcing perfectly through the air before crashing directly onto the deck of the Black Cat Pirates' ship. The projectile exploded with devastating force, sending a massive fireball across the ship's wooden planks.

Terrifying flames instantly engulfed the unfortunate pirates caught in the blast radius, and the inferno quickly spread across the deck like a living thing hungry for destruction. The wooden planks groaned and splintered under the intense heat as the entire pirate ship began to split down the middle, its structural integrity compromised by the precise strike.

"Enemy attack! Enemy attack!"

The surviving pirates finally got over their shock, their voices cracking with panic as they scrambled for cover among the burning wreckage.

Through sheer luck and the quick thinking of several subordinates who'd grabbed him to safety, Jango crawled out from under a pile of smoking debris. His distinctive heart-shaped glasses sat askew on his face, one lens cracked from the impact.

"Who dares attack us?!" he growled, anger blazing in his eyes as he struggled to his feet and scanned the horizon for their mysterious assailant.

What he saw next made his jaw drop and his damaged glasses slide completely off his nose, clattering to the scorched deck.

Like something out of a nightmare, a massive wave rose from the previously calm ocean, over ten meters high, its dark blue surface glistening in the sunlight as it surged toward them with unstoppable force. But on top of this aquatic mountain, surfing its crest with impossible grace, was the unmistakable silhouette of a ship, their attackers, approaching with all the confidence of maritime gods.

"Now that's how you surf!" Akira shouted over the water, his voice carrying clearly over the sound of the crashing waves as he maintained perfect control over the massive wall of water that was propelling their ship forward.

From his position at the bow of the Going Merry, he called back to their sniper with obvious excitement. "Usopp! Fire another shot! Show them what you and Merry can do together!"

"Leave it to me!" came the immediate reply from the ship's cabin, Usopp's voice tight with concentration and barely contained enthusiasm.

In the cannon room, their newest crew member adjusted his precision goggles with practiced efficiency. The first shot had been fired purely on instinct, feeling the rhythm of the Merry's movement through the waves, sensing the perfect moment to strike. Now, with adrenaline coursing through his veins and his confidence growing, he made only minor adjustments to the angle of the cannon.

Gurgle...

Another cannonball, this one adorned with a laughing clown face that seemed to mock their enemies' impending doom, slid into the barrel with an almost musical chime. The sizzling fuse crackled to life, counting down the seconds to impact.

A few heartbeats later...

BOOM!!!

Endless flames erupted from the muzzle again, the projectile screaming through the air like divine judgment before crashing down on what was left of the Black Cat pirates' ship. The second explosion was even more devastating than the first, turning the pirate ship into a floating hell of fire and screaming men.

Just two well-placed shots had reduced the once-proud ship to a burning wreck. Dozens of pirates screamed in agony as the flames consumed everything around them, while their more fortunate crewmates jumped overboard in desperate attempts to escape the inferno.

Standing on the ship's highest platform, one of the few areas still untouched by the spreading fire, Jango watched his command disintegrate with growing anger and despair.

"Where are our gunners?!" he shouted, his voice cracking with rage. "Return fire! Fight back!"

"We can't, Captain Jango!" A rotund pirate with distinctive cat ears stumbled up to him, his face streaked with soot and tears. "The enemy is too far away, and these massive waves make it impossible to aim! Our cannons can't reach them!"

"Then how the hell can they hit us so accurately every time?" Jango demanded, gesturing wildly at the destruction around them.

The gunner's expression crumpled in despair. "I don't know! It's like they're reading our movements!"

At that moment, another cat-eared crew member rushed over, panic in every line of his body. "Captain Jango, we must abandon ship! The lifeboats are ready!"

"If we stay any longer, we'll go down with her!"

Jango's hands clenched into fists as he stared at the approaching enemy ship, riding its impossible wave like conquerors of the sea itself. Every instinct told him to fight, to make these unknown pirates pay for destroying his ship and crew. But with most of his men dead or on the run, and his ship quickly becoming uninhabitable, retreat was the only option that didn't end in certain death.

"Damn it all!" he spat, slamming his fist against the burning railing before turning to the lifeboats. Pride was a luxury he couldn't afford when it came to survival.

Meanwhile, aboard the Going Merry, Nami stood in the crow's nest with her telescope trained on the burning wreckage, calling out intelligence updates with professional efficiency.

"I see the hypnotist Jango! That's a bounty of nine million berries!" she reported, adjusting her focus to track movement through the smoke and flames.

"Wait! One of the Nyaban brothers is over there too, seven million berries!"

Her voice suddenly changed from tactical analysis to pure indignation. "Damn it, Usopp! Your shot hit their treasure room!"

Through her lens, she could see one of the cat brothers desperately trying to extinguish the flames that threatened to consume chests full of gold and jewelry, herpotential gold and jewelry, as far as she was concerned.

"Akira! Hurry!" she shouted, abandoning her observation post and leaning over the railing in obvious desperation. "Use your waves to put out the fire!"

"If any treasure is destroyed, I'll deduct it from Usopp's allowance!"

Her greed for money had completely overwhelmed her tactical judgment. She looked ready to jump into the ocean and swim over to help fight the fire herself.

"Eh?!" Usopp emerged from the cabin just in time to hear this declaration, his face instantly changing between confusion, panic, and outrage.

He desperately looked around for support from his crewmates, hoping that someone would intervene on his behalf. What he found was Luffy, slumped in his special captain's chair, weakened by sea spray but wearing an expression of serene enlightenment as he gazed at the sky with philosophical detachment.

Meanwhile, Akira and Zoro were engaged in what appeared to be an intensely serious discussion about advanced combat techniques, their voices carrying fragments of complex topics such as "breathing techniques" and "water-style forms.

Although Usopp couldn't follow the details of their conversation, one thing was crystal clear: no one was going to save him from Nami's financial wrath.

"How can you all ignore this injustice?" he cried, but his protests fell on deaf ears.

Realizing that self-reliance was his only option, Usopp rushed back to the hut with renewed determination. Within minutes, he'd emerged with an improvised siege weapon, a massive slingshot constructed from gym equipment and bungee cords that looked both impressive and slightly terrifying.

Accompanying his makeshift ballista was an enormous, water-filled sphere that sloshed and wobbled with every movement, looking for all the world like a giant soap bubble.

Positioning his creation at the bow of the ship, Usopp loaded the water ball into the elastic band and began to pull it back with every ounce of strength in his wiry frame. His face turned red with effort as the mechanism was stretched to its limits.

"Distance calibration... wind speed adjustment... trajectory calculation..." he murmured, slipping on his precision goggles and closing one eye to line up his shot with mathematical precision.

"Perfect! All systems locked!"

Motivated by the dire threat to his future spending money, Usopp shouted across the water, "Nami! I'll put out your precious fire! But that means you owe me an extra allowance!"

The massive water ball was launched with tremendous force, arcing through the air before landing with pinpoint accuracy right in the burning treasure room of the Black Cat Pirates.

SPLASH!

The improvised water bomb burst on impact, releasing gallons of seawater that cascaded down, dousing the flames while thoroughly soaking the hapless Nyaban brothers who'd been fighting the fire.

"Well done!" Nami nodded in satisfaction, though her tone suggested she was merely acknowledging adequate performance rather than exceptional skill. "Since this is your first mission, I'll overlook the earlier mistake."

Better a wet treasure than no treasure at all, she reasoned pragmatically.

As the smoking wreckage of her enemy's ship drew closer, Nami slowly drew out her tripartite staff, electricity beginning to dance in her amber eyes like trapped lightning. She spun the weapon through a series of practice forms, each movement crackling with barely contained energy.

"Time for the real show," she murmured, stepping onto the ship's railing with predatory grace.

"Electric speed!"

SIZZLE~!

Electric light suddenly condensed around Nami's legs like liquid lightning, transforming her into a living thunderbolt. In the next instant, she leapt from the deck of the Going Merry, her increased speed allowing her to skip across the water like a stone.

Using floating debris as stepping stones, she danced across the waves with preternatural agility, each touch barely disturbing the water before leaping to the next piece of wreckage. Within seconds, she'd reached the first of the floating pirates, a bedraggled man struggling to stay afloat among the debris.

Nami's expression hardened as she considered her target. She'd never had much sympathy for pirates in general, but knowing that these particular criminals had planned to rob Kaya, the same woman who had generously provided their ship, eliminated any possibility of mercy.

Brilliant electricity gathered between her hands and channeled through her weapon as she extended it to maximum length. The metal staff crackled with dangerous energy as she aimed it directly at the pirate's head.

"Buzzy Buzz!"

ZAP!

A tennis-ball-sized ball of concentrated lightning shot from the tip of the staff, striking the swimmer with perfect accuracy. The man's agonized scream cut through the morning air before his body went rigid, paralyzed by the electrical assault. He sank beneath the waves without another sound.

But this was only the beginning of Nami's aquatic rampage.

Moving from target to target with ruthless efficiency, she systematically eliminated every floating pirate she encountered. Each received the same treatment, a precisely delivered bolt of lightning that sent them exploring the ocean's depths in perpetual silence.

After more than ten minutes of this methodical hunt, Nami finally reached the slowly sinking Black Cat pirate ship itself. Her eyes immediately fell on the treasure room, where the two Nyaban brothers stood, dripping but defiant, among the salvaged gold.

Most of their crew had either perished in the flames or fled in terror, leaving only these two elite officers capable of any meaningful resistance.

"Damn girl!" Sham growled, extending his razor-sharp claws in a menacing display. "Who are you? Why are you attacking us?"

Buchi flanked his brother, both men in fighting stance despite their waterlogged condition. "You made a grave mistake targeting the Black Cat Pirates!"

But Nami, a veteran of countless Pokémon battles and a student of Akira's aggressive tactical philosophy, felt no fear. Her lips curled into a confident grin as she noticed the puddles of water covering the deck, courtesy of Usopp's firefighting efforts.

"Does pirate fighting need justification?" she replied coolly, pressing the tip of her outstretched staff into the largest puddle as electricity began to dance over her entire body.

"Friendly reminder: water conducts electricity."

"Buzzy Buzz!"

SIZZLE!!!

A massive electric current erupted from Nami's position, racing along the metal staff and spreading through the water across the entire deck. The attack struck both Nyaban brothers simultaneously, their agonized screams echoing through the sinking ship as lightning coursed through their bodies.

But Nami was not finished. While her enemies writhed in paralyzed agony, she quickly placed both hands on her forehead in a distinctive gesture, forming an arc that resembled the center of a coin.

Golden light blazed around her head as supernatural energy gathered.

"Payday!"

A massive phantom coin materialized above them, shimmering like trapped sunlight before rocketing toward the helpless brothers. The projectile struck with tremendous force before shattering into several hundred berry coins, scattering across the deck with the sound of musical chimes.

"Akira wasn't lying!" Nami's eyes literally turned into golden symbols as greed overwhelmed her tactical focus.

Though she'd used this technique extensively in the virtual world, this was the first time she'd used Pay Day against real opponents in their own reality. The sight of real money materializing out of thin air sent a rush of excitement through her treasure-loving heart.

The Pokémon world was truly wondrous! While each use would only yield about a thousand berries, the cumulative potential was staggering. More importantly, the amount would increase as her level increased!

Energized by visions of infinite wealth, Nami felt power surge through her enhanced physique.

"Pay Day!"

"AHHH!" the brothers shouted.

"Pay Day!"

"STOP! PLEASE!"

The cycle continued relentlessly as Nami's gleeful laughter mingled with the Nyaban brothers' increasingly desperate pleas for mercy. Money scattered like golden rain across the deck as the once-proud pirates learned the painful price of threatening their friends.

By the time the interrogation was over, both brothers had been thoroughly defeated, and the contents of the treasure room had been greatly enhanced by Nami's supernatural money-generating abilities.

Standing among the scattered gold, electricity still crackling around her staff, Nami surveyed her handiwork with deep satisfaction. The Going Merry's first battle had been a resounding success, and her own debut as a combat-capable crewmember had exceeded all expectations.

"Mission accomplished," she announced to the approaching Going Merry, where her crewmates waited with astonished expressions of approval.

The remnants of the Black Cat Pirates had learned a valuable lesson about the dangers of threatening the Straw Hat crew's allies. More importantly, Nami had discovered that her new skills could bring both victory and profit, a combination that suited her perfectly.

As the defeated pirate ship finally slipped beneath the waves and its treasure-laden navigator prepared to return to her ship, one thing had become crystal clear: the crew of the Going Merry was ready for whatever challenges the Grand Line might throw at them.

Their first real battle had been a perfect victory, and it was only the beginning of their legend.
