Chapter 12: Mission: Slay At Least Ten Thousand Abominations!
One man and one dragon stood atop a towering building, staring down at more than thirty grotesque creatures of different forms. The creatures growled repeatedly as though they were agitated by the man and his dragon.
"Ashkar, we are going to slay at least ten thousand abominations!"
"Err? Those creatures down below? Isn't that too much, Dad?" Ashkar stared at Aleron in slight surprise, as though he had heard wrong.
"Too much?" Aleron smiled, then rubbed the dragon who was by his side. Ashkar's head felt warm. Aleron liked the warmth, which was why he loved patting Ashkar's head a lot.
Ashkar also felt the warmth of his hand.
Aleron continued, "By the time we're done, the vast world will come to fear one man and his dragon."
Aleron made such bold declarations. By the time they had slain 10,000 abominations, their strength should have reached a new threshold entirely.
By then, one man riding atop a fire dragon would burn countless creatures to ashes and dust.
"Dad, the scene is too grand!" Ashkar also had similar imaginations in his mind. His excited voice resounded in Aleron's mind.
"Indeed it is," Aleron replied calmly.
"However, for now, we need to deal with the abominations one at a time and gradually increase our strength," Aleron said after some thought.
He then began plotting with Ashkar. Since his strength had increased once more, he felt he could now deal with a rank one abomination, or at least hold it off until Ashkar finished it off.
Following that, he relayed his plan to the dragon. "You will swoop in and take the attention of an abomination that's isolated from the rest.
"After that, make sure to grab its attention and bring it away from the others. Remember to be cautious while doing so, and above all, prioritize your safety!"
Aleron gave Ashkar the advice. If push came to shove, there was still one final ability that could save them both. However, Aleron was unwilling to use it for now.
Activating his Infernal Eyes, Aleron began studying the creatures. He hadn't noticed it previously, but after some thought, he realized that the Infernal Eyes didn't just show him heat signatures.
From how intense the heat waves were, he could tell if the creature was badly injured or if it was still in peak state.
Aleron studied the group of abominations. They had varying auras in his unique vision.
Although all of their auras were pitch black, some were darker than others. Glancing at an abomination by the side, Aleron's face held a faint smile.
You, then...
After glancing around, he realized that this abomination had the weakest aura of them all. He then began relaying the information to Ashkar.
"Okay, Dad." Ashkar nodded at Aleron's words, then began stretching his wings, about to take off.
Just then, Aleron spoke up. "Wait!"
"Yes, Dad? What is it?" Ashkar was puzzled.
Aleron reached out, rubbed the dragon's head, and then gave it a kiss. Ashkar had grown slightly within the past day. Although its size was still roughly the same, the dragon had grown nonetheless.
"Remember to be safe," Aleron said softly and then patted Ashkar's head.
"Yes, Dad!" Ashkar also felt the affection in his words. After that, the dragon flapped its wings and swooped down towards the abomination, who was at the edge of the crowd.
A whistling sound resounded, and in an instant, Ashkar had almost reached the abomination. Ashkar soon reached it, and his large claws moved rapidly with swift precision, almost leaving an afterimage.
Before the abominations could react, Ashkar's claw had torn a large gash in the creature. Black liquid oozed out from the wound as a painful sound escaped its mouth.
Roarrrrrrrrr!
The roar was filled with pain, anger, and a large amount of madness. The abomination's hollow eyes turned in the direction of Ashkar, who was rapidly fleeing, his tail flapping repeatedly as though mocking the creature.
Roarrrrrrrrr!
The abomination was filled with rage. With nothing to vent its anger on, it began destroying the nearby vehicles and the walls beside it.
Bang! Bang! Bang!
The abomination was extremely enraged. Just as it began to relax slightly, it heard the familiar whistling sound again. Before it could turn its head, it felt an unbearable pain.
This time, since it had left the encirclement of the other abominations, they couldn't do anything to help it. The creature turned to stare at Ashkar furiously.
Once again, Ashkar was running, waving his tail mockingly. However, just after running for a few feet, he stopped, then turned to stare at the abomination with an unreadable expression on his face.
The abomination let out a guttural roar and quickly gave chase.
Surprisingly, it was the exact same building Aleron had scaled through.
The moment the creature reached Ashkar, Aleron, with a rod in hand, jumped off the building silently.
Just as the abomination was about to swipe its large claw at Ashkar, Aleron reached the creature, propelled by wind and gravity.
Before it could react, his sharp rod pierced through the abomination's head.
Although the abomination was far larger than him, since Aleron's strength had improved greatly, the rod pierced through its skull without any resistance.
However, Aleron knew the battle was far from over.
Ashkar, now! Shouting in his mind, Aleron leapt off the abomination, taking the rod with him.
Instantly, Ashkar, who was by the side, opened his large maw and bit into the abomination.
Ripppppp!
A large chunk of it was ripped apart. The abomination let out a pained roar, trying to call the attention of the others, but Aleron didn't give it the chance.
With a leap, the rod in his hand moved again, and he pierced the abomination in its throat. The roar quickly became muffled, and the creature was unable to scream.
Ashkar, finish him… Aleron gave the command upon sensing that the other abominations were rushing over.
Ashkar didn't hesitate. Within mere moments, the abomination was eaten completely by him.
Just then, more than five abominations appeared, surrounding them.
Ashkar, time to leave! Aleron said, and quickly scaled the building while the dragon flew away.
At the same time, the system came to life, and a notification appeared in his line of sight.
