Chapter 5: The Terrifying Fusion Ability!
"What?" Aleron muttered, eyes wide in disbelief as the panel glowed before him.
[Fusion – Level 1: Allows complete fusion with your dragon. While fused, you may use all dragon abilities. Your strength will be similar to that of the dragon's.]
[Cost: 5 Origin Energy per minute.]
Fuse… with a dragon?
His mouth hung open. For a long moment, he couldn't process it. Images flashed in his mind... Him cloaked in flames, with scales on his skin and burning wings sprouting from his back.
So this is possible...
But now wasn't the time to test it.
System, how much Origin Energy do I have? he asked mentally.
The system responded instantly.
[Calculating stats…]
[Strength: 10]
[Agility: 12]
[Defense: 13]
[Origin Energy: 20]
Aleron scanned the numbers. Then he asked,
System, what does this mean? What's the baseline strength for humans in this world?
[10 stat points is equal to an average man. Every additional 10 doubles that strength.]
He looked down at his pale hands under the moonlight and whispered, "So… I used to be that weak? Without the system's triple boost, I would've been at just 3 strength?"
Aleron clenched his fists. Images of the Genesis Coil resurfaced in his mind. I will definitely get my revenge on all of you.
He was also reminded of his parents who had abandoned him. Unfortunately, I am not strong enough. I need to get enough strength to demand the answers I need forcefully.
After making a decision on what to do next, Aleron slowly walked out of the truck, with Ashkar on his shoulders. Fortunately, the rain had reduced drastically, only falling as a slight drizzle.
Dad, where are we heading to next? Ashkar's voice resounded in his mind.
We are heading to any nearby city, to settle and then search for ways to increase our strength quickly.
But I can just devour people to become stronger, Ashkar said in confusion.
I know. You can't keep devouring people of the same level. We have to look for stronger opponents. There's also something we need to do, but now isn't the time. Aleron's eyes flashed with a cold light.
Ashkar seemed to feel the chill in the air. He wrapped his wings slightly around Aleron's hair, bringing him some warmth.
With that, Aleron stepped out of the truck. Seeing the outside world again, Aleron sighed, then began walking in no direction in particular.
From his memories, he had been taken to the Genesis Coil at the age of ten and had been there for more than eight years.
He was currently eighteen. Because he hadn't left the Genesis Coil since he was imprisoned there, 1317 didn't have any information on any city nearby.
Aleron continued to walk blindly. At the same time, he activated his Infernal Eyes occasionally, glancing around his surroundings to see if he could find any heat signatures.
Unfortunately, there were none. Just as he continued walking, he soon caught sight of a figure through his Infernal Eyes.
Aleron studied the figure for a while and took note. During this time, he had discovered that the Infernal Eyes could only catch heat signatures within three meters of him.
Could it be that my Light Heat Wave attack can only occur within the same radius? Aleron muttered inwardly with a frown.
He hid behind a tree and then signaled to the dragon on his shoulders while communicating to him mentally.
Go and check who that is.
He also wanted to use this to test out what the limits between him and Ashkar's range of communication were.
Ashkar nodded and, without asking any questions, flew and slowly approached the two figures under Aleron's lead. In a few seconds, he had already appeared behind whatever it was…
…
The dragon glanced down and noticed that there was a huge establishment in front of it. The name also sounded slightly weird. Fortunately, from its vague memories, it could read as well.
Dad, there is a very huge building here.
Aleron, who waited about three meters away, heard Ashkar's voice and quickly asked, What kind of place is that?
I don't know, but the description on it is… the Genesis Coil. Ashkar replied, and his voice seemed to contain slight confusion.
As soon as Aleron heard the words "Genesis Coil," it felt as though he had been struck with lightning.
His expression froze and his body trembled subconsciously. He glanced at the location in horror. Then that heat signature…
Ashkar, come back now. He quickly said, however, he felt as though he could no longer contact Ashkar. Shit! He cursed, then rushed to look for Ashkar.
He was his companion. Despite the world betraying him, it seemed as though they shared similar fates as outcasts.
Because of this, Aleron felt a much deeper bond with Ashkar despite spending only a few minutes with the dragon.
He crouched down and rushed forward in haste. I hope nothing bad has happened to you, Ashkar. He prayed silently in his heart as he slowly approached the glowing red figure in his vision.
Soon, he reached the figure and realized it was a middle-aged man. He had a cigarette lit and was taking a puff. Just out for a casual smoke? Aleron realized, however, his eyes flashed with a cold glint.
Since he had already considered the whole Genesis Coil his enemy, he might as well start taking some interest now.
Reaching out slightly, Aleron soon reached the man.
Pausing for a few moments like a silent hunter, he waited until the man let out a breath of smoke before pouncing on him.
Although he felt his action was impulsive, he knew it definitely wasn't after glancing at the screen from the corner of his eyes.
[New S-grade mission: Destroy the Genesis Coil]
[Mission description: The Genesis Coil is a very secretive organization with many branches. Destroy them all to complete the S-grade mission.]
[Current members: 1317]
[Reward: ???]
Aleron was shocked. However, he felt that such a mission would result in exceedingly rich rewards.
Because of this, he could hardly control himself. Even though he hadn't killed anyone in his two lifetimes, the moment his firm grip landed on the man's neck, he felt a slight thrill.
The emotion was subtle, but for a moment, he felt as though the rage that had been bottled up within him was finally let out, albeit slightly.
His expression changed slightly and in one swift motion, he twisted the man's head.
The man didn't even have the chance to scream. He felt his neck snap, his eyes turned lifeless slowly, and till the moment of his death, he couldn't understand who killed him or why.
[Congratulations on killing a member of the Genesis Coil]
[Mission completion rate: 0.001 percent]
Just as Aleron finished glancing at the information from the system, a red light filled the sky, and soon alarm sounds began ringing out. The lights were slowly converging at a location…
Aleron's eyes widened in shock and he was slightly terrified.
Has Ashkar been… caught?
