OP in the Apocalypse: I Gained a Zombie System and Became the Top Dog

Chapter 3: The System

Year 0 – Month One – One Year Pre-Apocalypse

Daria's POV

I tapped the little home button with my mind. I was a little worried I would have to wave my hands around like an idiot, but alas, it relates to my brain. Several options in a two-column grid appeared.

'Zombie System Sections:'

Hold on, am I a Zombie?

'No, you are not a Zombie, but you have the attributes of Humans and Zombies for the correct evolutions. Can I continue explaining your system now?'

Wow, a system with an attitude. My apologies, do carry on.

'Goals and Quest: This is pretty self-explanatory. Here, you can find all the quests, short—and long-term goals, and types of rewards available that I will give you.'

Do I get a choice to say no?

'No.'

Ruthless.

'Zombie Skills: As you level up or meet and kill higher-level zombies, you will be able to gain and upgrade the skills that they have.'

Like that creepy little girl, I shudder just thinking about her.

'Yes, she was a Level 6 and had a particular interest in you.'

How do you know that?

'I… have access to your memories.'

'Horde Control: This is where you can create the laws your horde must abide by, and you can talk to, control, and see what they see.'

I can't wait to fuck with Rain and Molly.

'I can't say it'll happen to nicer people.'

'Mob Map: Here, you can control where your horde is stationed, see their stats, and you will be able to see other humans and zombies in the area.'

'Power Portal: Any humans you encounter could potentially have powers. This tab will show whether they are awakened, how strong they are and the potential to copy their power once you see them using it, but you can only use one power at a time.'

I can… copy powers.

'Please don't cackle like that. It bounces around my brain.'

You don't have a brain…

'Technically, my brain is your brain. So protect it!'

Ah, that makes sense. Don't worry! I plan on surviving this entire apocalypse and then some.

I'tem Crafting: While you will need to scavenge for supplies, this tab allows you to create larger products that usually require factories. You can unlock the remaining items as you level up and complete quests. Anything you pick up and store in this tab can be used to craft items like wood, metal, etc.'

Bullets? Winter Clothes? Cold Weapons? A tent or a little house?

'Yes, along with a campfire, stove, water purifier, first aid kit, cooked meals, etc.'

That is amazing!

You're welcome!'

What?

'Survival Portal: This is possibly the most essential tab since you have a year until Zombies start running around. The house you own is your current base, and you can fortify it using this tab. When you take over a property, it will be added to your base, and you can teleport between them.'

Hahahahaha, oh, I'm sorry I didn't mean to laugh so loud, but isn't this a little overpowered?

'Considering what happened to you in your first life, does it really seem like too much?'

Hmmm, no, you're right. I was betrayed by those closest to me and had lightning powers.

I pressed the survival portal, marvelling at the floor plans of my three-story house laid out in front of me. Holy shit, this is cool! I couldn't create this for VR even if I had alien technology.

'Are aliens real?'

God, I hope not, but it's relatively likely!

I tapped the upgrade button in the bottom right corner and saw that adding my loser ex-boyfriend to my horde gave me points to fortify my house. How exactly does that work?

'I'll organise the highest-grade renovations according to the Internet and remind you when they are due.'

Of course, I don't know why I expected it to start fixing it like in The Sims. I shook my head and converted the horde points into 1000 build points. Does that mean I have separate points for different sections?

'Correct.'

I tilted my head to the side, upgraded the doors and windows to level 3, and extended the garden fences to ten feet.

"Rain!" I screamed, knowing he was sulking on the top floor like a baby.

He ran down the stairs so fast I wondered if it was a power, dropping in front of me on both his knees.

"Yes, Dary," he said with a light in his eyes, and I sighed, rubbing my temples.

"Don't call me that; it's Daria to you," I sneered. "You need to sell everything!"

"What? No, urgh…," his face contorted in pain, and he looked like he was going to cry, "why? Do you want to focus on one drug?"

I smirked, "It isn't your place to question me," I pronounced the following few words like I was talking to a child, "Sell Everything!" he pulled out his phone and pressed the screen a couple of times and put it against his ear, "wash it as quickly as possible, we need clean money. Keep half as dirty, and get in contact with the arms dealers, and get as many guns and ammo as you can. Buy a warehouse somewhere safe and hand me the address, shit," a dark thought crossed my mind. What happens when the pharmacies and hospitals are ransacked, "do you know-"

"Max, sell everything and don't restock clean half; keep half and let me know when it's done," he said with a clipped voice and a dark look.

"You'll thank me for it in a year," I purred, "Don't sell the heroine," I hissed.

"Yeah, I know. It's for a new venture. Don't sell the brown. Keep it back and somewhere safe, and I'll pick it up," his voice took on a suspicious tone.

Is he stupid enough to think I'm going to get high?

"We might need it for medicine in the future."

"Medicine?"

"Hmm, yes. It was used as anaesthesia back in the day."

I hopped from my egg and pulled out my tablet from the bookcase, using the browser to search through wholesalers. The money I have in my savings is enough to start stocking up my safe room and the system inventory. Frankly, I am glad I killed him on a Friday afternoon. Molly won't be here for another hour, and I don't have work until Monday.

I left Rain on the floor and walked into the kitchen to make a cup of tea, opening the notes app to begin my list. Fuck, I should have got him to make my drink.

I will need to investigate getting a boat and maybe a little yacht, too. I decided to start with the bathroom, buying shampoo, condition, shower gel, and shaving cream for both men and women. It was lucky I bought the dog's dry food online. I can buy their normal amounts and find a wholesaler.

"Rain, you need to write down everything about your competitors and 'business' partners," I shouted from the kitchen, my eyebrows rising above the middle of my forehead when Molly came through the back door.

I bet that was her favourite entrance.

The snicker that left my lips was dirty, but the confused look on her face slowed, morphing into the realisation that Rain was alone. She gave me that sickly sweet smile, stepping closer to lean over and see my screen. I had changed my passwords on all my devices, the security only allowing my face, and the number changed to five, six, six, eight, and three. It was the number above the door of that man. I wish I had gotten his name.

She leaned around me to pick up the tablet, tried to use her face, and frowned, typing in the number she knew. I nearly laughed. I had to play this off, or else she might realise that I knew.

"Urgh, Rain's uncle is coming soon," I sighed with an eye roll and took out another cup, "I'll make you a drink. Go ahead and chill with Rain," I cooed innocently.

She dropped my tablet back on the side and sprang from the counter as if it had electrocuted her.

"That makes sense. Uncle is constantly touching things he shouldn't," she pouted with a disappointed head shake and walked out of the room a little too quickly.

This green tea bitch, ha.

I didn't even realise how she calls all his family the same way he does. You could be convinced I am the best friend's third wheel here. This will help me in the future. I smirked and unlocked the tablet, bringing up the camera recording since she walked in the door. I watched her whole demeanour change as she stood away from the doorway, just out of my sight in the kitchen, bit her lip, and lifted her yellow summer dress to reveal the tops of her legs. She hadn't noticed Rain was very busy on his tablet, keeping my orders in his heart and mind.

Ah, to be the Queen.

"Rainy," she sang coquettishly, skipping towards him and sinking to the floor on her knees.

This bitch man, I snickered helplessly; she's been on her knees how many times, I wonder, and he's been trying for years to stick it in me at night. Shameless! A micromemory flashed into my mind. I asked Rain what kind of relationship he believes to be perfect but unrealistic.

Without a second thought, he answered, "The sister wives' concept: Could you imagine you and Molly calling each other sisters and the three of us sleeping together?"

My reaction at the time was furiously disgusted, and I broke the glass in my hands in rage. Rain had to clean me up and never mentioned anything like that again. I should have known the minute he said it that it was something he thought about often. I've never been so relieved that I don't give oral to compensate for my lack of giving it up. I look under a microscope, see germs, and diagnose unknown people. Why would I then stick a drug dealer's dick in my mouth?

I'm still a virgin, and it's going to stay that way this time. My eyes began to mist at the thoughts of my previous life, and my body shook, making it nearly impossible to put the sugar in the cup. Rain should count his lucky stars that he's alive, but he will never have a day of peace again. When I was so exhausted that the lightning powers stopped, he came into the safe room the second his prized cunt went to sleep and took away the last of my dignity, not too softly either.
