OP in the Apocalypse: I Gained a Zombie System and Became the Top Dog

Chapter 4: Goals and Quests

At least in this life, Rain will not be a problem, but his friends might have some spectacularly stupid ideas. I can only be seventy-five per cent sure they know he's banging Molly. It's never been mentioned, and I've never heard inside jokes I can't understand. I tapped my chin and took a laxative liquid from the cupboard. I hummed a little as I poured it in, watching Molly try to attract Rain's attention by unbuttoning his jeans.

I stopped pouring as he moved the tablet to look down at her and, not so tenderly, smacked her hands away.

"Don't you have any dignity trying to suck your best friend's boyfriend's dick while she is twenty feet away?"

Woah! I even felt ashamed and embarrassed, and I was the one being wronged here. She shot up like a pole, and her eyes filled with tears as she sank into the other side of the sofa rather than right next to him. I laughed, watching her head snap up, expecting me to have seen everything from the doorway, but of course, I was putting away her new syrup essence. If she drinks in my house, it'll dispel that perfect aura.

I walked into the room with three cups, placed Molly's on the coffee table instead of right in her hands, handed Rain's to him with a sweet smile and hopped back into my egg, swaying slightly as it swung around. If I named it, I'd call it anger killer. When a series of dings rang in my brain, I sighed and thought about the menu, a slightly giddy feeling rising in me as I saw the Goals and Quests tab shining brighter and the border moving like a computer status bar.

'Future Prospects Goal: Find a way of accumulating the knowledge necessary to survive a zombie apocalypse extinction event.

Claiming Territory: Claim 10 properties.

**Milestone 1**

Level 20 Required!

Claim The Arctic Hotel and use it as your central base.'

I smirked and laughed out loud, shoving a chocolate biscuit in my mouth from my bookcase and taking a few sips of tea to break it down.

"See you soon, Mother," I mumbled around my mouthful of food.

"What? You're going home?" Molly asked excitedly, her previous mood dispelled as she took a few gulps of tea and was likely daydreaming about being alone with Rain for a while.

"No, not yet. Maybe in the next three months," I answered honestly after gulping my food down.

She smirked as she choked on her tea and watched me with wide eyes.

"That's very specific. Is it a special occasion?"

I raised my eyebrow at her, observing her over my hot cup of tea.

"You could say that. You could also call it a new business venture," I finished with a smirk, my body reacting to her building confusion.

My dear Molly knows my mother and stepfather; she used to have a crush on my brother until I met Rain. If she lives long enough to get to the base with us, will there be some interesting developments when she sees my big brother again? I smiled at the thought. She is not the type that likes to be ignored.

'Are you sure keeping her out of the horde is a good idea? She's not exactly trustworthy.'

I assure you it'll be better for us that she's a backstabber. She's the one most likely to die, after all.

'Ah, I see. That is very dark.'

Better her than me.

I placed my cup on the bookcase and pulled out a book on how to survive any situation. My writing hobby has given me an extensive catalogue of books on surviving apocalypse-type situations and zombies. I hope this counts towards acquiring knowledge.

'It does.'

As much as I have a fantastic system, I still need to level up myself, and this is the best way to start. The bases we gain aren't guaranteed to stay safe, and we could be thrown to the elements with nothing but the things we can carry. There won't be anyone who knows about this system because none of them are trustworthy.

"Why are you watching this horror show? Let me change it to football for you," Molly asked, looking directly at me.

I very nearly sighed. Does she think I was born yesterday? Oh, ha. I was born yesterday, I guess, but she doesn't know that.

"We don't watch football anymore. Do we?" I turned my head right to look directly at Rain.

"No, it's a boring and useless sport. Rugby is better," I spat my drink across the floor in shock, tea dribbling down my open mouth.

I didn't expect him to recite my hate for football word for word, so he was listening. Isn't that interesting?

'He listened but never once changed the channel, did he?'

Don't worry. I'm not going to take him back and forgive years of abuse. He sent me to that place to die. He should thank God I'm not sending him there myself. They don't need to know about my system, and being off the radar for this life will make it easier to take them down later.

'Didn't take you for a believer.'

I'm not, I'm a very big atheist here, but it's a great saying. Rain jumped from his chair with wide eyes. He probably didn't expect such a strong reaction, but hey, I wasn't with him for his money or drugs, that's for sure. He strode into the kitchen to grab some blue rolls; he was going to need to go to the cash and carry to bulk buy that along with the toilet and kitchen roll. Things get very dirty when people realise the world is ending.

I continued to sip my tea as Rain cleared the floor. Molly was staring at Rain with an intense look. I could see her right eye twitching a little, and that was how I knew this would work just fine. She's already losing it, and she's only been here for an hour or so. The front door opposite me burst open, and I damn near pulled out the hunting knife from its little sheath attached to my back.

"Devon, ring the doorbell before you barge in here, please. You could get yourself hurt," I grumbled as his tall, lean army combat-covered legs strode in and around his nephew, cleaning on the floor; he didn't give him a second look with his bright blue eyes and shook his head at me.

I squinted my eyes at him and tilted my head a little. The jet-black hair fell in front of his eyes, and suddenly, I wanted to bang his uncle. Oh no! He looks a lot like that guy. I blinked and leaned back as he leaned forward and grabbed the edges of my egg chair, leaning closer and closer to me.

"Why are you calling me Devon? What happened to Uncle?" his minty breath fanned in front of my face, the slight hint of cigarette smoke leaving me with interesting questions.

Unlike Rain, I didn't know he was a smoker; he's never smoked in my house. How considerate.

"I'll call you Uncle Devon if that's what you want," I whispered, lifting my finger under his chin and closing the gap.

He jerked back when my lips skimmed his, and he turned his head to Rain, who had walked out of the room to throw the blue roll away. Molly couldn't see because he was in the way. He turned back to me with wide, confused eyes, and I could see his chest heaving. Then, like an intrusive thought, he leaned back and pressed his lips to mine.

I fought the urge to moan with everything I had, my lips parting at the feeling of being all consumed by a man who wasn't Rain, and he took his chance and slipped his tongue into my mouth. I could hear the leather around the bars of the egg straining and squeaking as he tightened his hold against them. Who would have thought this grown thirty-year-old man was craving his nephew's twenty-four-year-old misses?

I heard a shift from the right and pushed Devon away from me with a heavy pant and pushed myself against the back of the egg to separate us as much as possible. I wiped my mouth with the back of my hand, my eyes never leaving his as we both looked at each other with rising emotions of lust and adrenaline.

Molly shifted over on the couch to see what we were doing, her eyes as wide as Devon's. She tried to pull out her phone to take a video, but I was much faster. I knew that Rain would be back in the next few seconds. The rage on her face when he came in and saw nothing, and she was too slow to grab her phone for proof, was immeasurably satisfying.

Devon straightened up and backed away from me, stalking into the kitchen with his hand anxiously running through his hair. I smirked and made direct eye contact with Molly.

They are all mine, and they will never be yours.
