Chapter 399: 357. Late Night Snack Chat
"I'm back."
Late at night, at Witch Academy, atop the Tower of Shine, Dorothy could see from afar that the lights on the top floor had not yet been extinguished. She had initially thought that perhaps Sophia had forgotten to turn them off but, as soon as she landed her broom on the balcony, a figure rose from the couch, taking a look at her.
"Oh, you're still up at this hour?"
Dorothy scratched her head, somewhat surprised to see her angel roommate sitting on the couch in a white nightgown.
"I promised the teacher I'd take good care of you, Miss. I couldn't relax until you were back."
Sophia stated very straightforwardly.
Right, it was still a mission from the teacher, after all.
Dorothy: "....."
But I've been with your incarnation all this time, okay? It was only when I returned to the academy that we separated; surely nothing could happen to me on this short journey back from the 13th circle. You're treating me like a child who can't take care of herself.
The homebody witch thought to herself, speechless.
"How about we have a late-night snack?"
She tried to shift the topic.
After a busy day in the Moon Rabbit World, she had not even found time for a meal. Originally, she thought she'd skip eating today, but now, since Sophia was up anyway, she didn't need to worry about cooking causing a disturbance.
"No... Well."
The Pure White Witch was about to decline, but as she opened her mouth, the words of refusal simply would not come out.
After all, the miss had been away all day, and aside from breakfast, she hadn't had lunch or dinner.
Though witches can go a day without eating without feeling physically hungry, it felt strange to skip meals when used to eating regularly; she felt hungry in her heart.
And once that feeling of hunger arose, it could not be suppressed. In the end, Sophia succumbed to one of the two primal instincts of living beings.
"Alright then, I'll whip up a couple of dishes."
Dorothy nodded and then went to open the refrigerator, getting busy.
It was late at night, so there was no need for anything fancy. The fridge harbored some Sub-dragon Meat dumplings she had prepared in her spare time; a couple of bowls would be just fine.
"By the way, how's the preparation for Witch's Night festival going? Any inside information from the student council?"
While waiting for the dumplings to cook, Dorothy asked Sophia.
Although she had already gotten the details of the fest from Mother Superior, she still pretended to be ignorant and asked.
"No, the battles for each festival are kept secret until the very last moment. We student council members are also participants so knowing the battles in advance would be cheating, which would ruin the fun."
Sophia indeed shook her head, expressing a slight sense of regret.
She was determined to win a certain prize from the festival, so she wouldn't mind cheating a little if it was possible. Unfortunately, there was no way to do that, not even for her as the president of the student council.
"I see,"
Dorothy nodded, realizing that she probably was the only student with an information advantage.
Though it wasn't particularly useful since she only prepared an alias of the Moon God to trap the Angel Witches besides all else, she could not be bothered to make other preparations. After all, how could a model student like her cheat, and did she even need to?
"So, who were you planning to team up with originally?"
The homebody witch asked, a bit curious.
After all, Sophia had no initial intention of joining the folks from Witch's Home for the event. The potential teammates Dorothy was curious about probably were among the academy's best, good enough to catch the eye of the Pure White Witch.
"Huh, could it be those guys from the Holy Child Sect?"
"Why do you ask?"
Sofia, who had been sitting on the sofa and smelling the tempting aroma coming from the kitchen, looked at her young lady with a bit of confusion.
But she didn't think too much about it, assuming the young lady was just making conversation out of curiosity, and since it wasn't any secret she couldn't share, she thought about it and spoke up.
"It was the Vice-President and her people, young lady. You've met them at the student council before, right? It's that woman who always looks so serious and wears glasses."
Huh, I certainly have met her, just last night, and I even clung to her leg.
Dorothy thought this to herself, but it was something she couldn't really say.
However, Sofia's words did turn her previous guess into reality. Indeed, it seemed that her roommate was still thinking about utilizing the Holy Child Sect's Strength, but my foolish roommate, do you not realize that you're already surrounded by spies?
Thinking about the Lord of Glory's power she had discovered on the Vice-President last night, the homebody witch couldn't help but feel speechless when looking at Sofia, who seemed to be oblivious.
She had checked the Vice-President's background. The Vice-President's two mothers were the ones in charge of the Holy Child Sect back in the day, Agnes's lieutenants; and after Agnes was sealed away, they had taken control of the sect.
So, if the Vice-President herself had the Lord of Glory's power, whether her two mothers were still clean was really hard to tell.
So, Sofia, are you the legendary winery boss?
After some thought, the homebody witch felt it necessary to subtly remind her roommate who might have already been sold out.
"Is that Vice-President very powerful? You seem to trust her quite a bit," Dorothy asked.
"Powerful? Well, she's just alright, strength-wise, I'd say she's passable. She's a bit slow, but I guess she's still usable," Sofia thought for a moment, then shook her head.
"As for trust, that's okay, I guess. She herself is fine, but her mothers are too cunning to be trusted. Young lady, you better not get too close to them," the Pure White Witch reminded her.
She had never completely trusted her so-called allies, even if the people from the Holy Child Sect always acted like they were her mother's old subordinates, listening to her commands and being extremely respectful.
The only person in this world she ever completely trusted was her teacher, and now there was the addition of the young lady.
Dorothy: "...."
Huh, so Sofia, you've seen it all that clearly?
Reminded in solitude, the homebody witch suddenly saw her roommate in a new light, having originally thought her to be a winery boss. Now it seemed she wasn't a boss at all, but rather an angler.
But knowing her roommate was also a wily old fox, Dorothy was quite relieved.
"Then after you get off work tomorrow, do you want to go check out the club and choose your room? We could also build some rapport and prepare a bit for the Witch's Night." Read latest stories on My Virtual Library Empire
The dumplings in the pot were ready. Dorothy ladled them into bowls, and the bowls were already prepared with various seasonings, adorned with Sub-dragon Egg Threads and Deep Sea Seaweed as sides, and finally topped with the Tiger Bone Broth that had been simmered in advance. These two bowls of witch-secret dumplings were done.
The homebody witch carried the dumplings to the dining table, making this suggestion as she did.
"Mhm."
Sofia reached out to take her bowl, and her mouth involuntarily watered. After thinking it over, she did not reject the young lady's suggestion.
If she wanted to get what she wished for at this Witch's Night festival, then coordinating with her teammates was essential. Moreover, the young lady's club was full of skilled individuals; it was a lot more reliable than her original plan of soloing the challenge.
"I'll be there on time."
... The witches' midnight snack ensued ...
