OVERLORD: The Second Supreme Being

Chapter 144: Chapter 143: The New Chancellor

Peroroncino had been feeling miserable these past few days. What used to be a life of indulgence and freedom was now dominated by Bukubukuchagama's return, who kept controlling him at every turn.

The thousands of women's outfits that Peroroncino had collected were all confiscated by Bukubukuchagama.

This frustrated him greatly.

Furthermore, Bukubukuchagama had set the rule that Peroroncino could only engage in "lewd" activities at night, forbidding him from doing so at any other time.

This had taken away half of his enjoyment.

The worst part was that Bukubukuchagama had been constantly following Peroroncino around these days, not giving him any chance to leave Nazarick.

Peroroncino had decided that today he would confront Bukubukuchagama and make it clear that he couldn't let her control him like this anymore.

Just then, the door to his room opened, and Bukubukuchagama walked in.

"It's already this late, and you're still not up!" Bukubukuchagama shouted as she opened the door.

Peroroncino and Bukubukuchagama had lost their parents when they were very young, and Bukubukuchagama had always taken care of Peroroncino as an older sister.

"There's nothing to do, there's no reason to wake up early," Peroroncino said, staring directly at Bukubukuchagama.

Bukubukuchagama stared back at Peroroncino with an even fiercer gaze.

Peroroncino wanted to look away several times, but he held himself back. Despite Bukubukuchagama not looking particularly fierce, Peroroncino felt a deep reluctance to make eye contact with her.

After a while of staring at each other, Bukubukuchagama finally spoke.

"That's true. You've grown up."

Bukubukuchagama had been in this world for over a century, and many of the memories she had once shared with Peroroncino had faded, as her true form was a slime.

Slimes have low intelligence.

So, Bukubukuchagama's memory was not very good.

The way Bukubukuchagama interacted with Peroroncino now was similar to how she did when Peroroncino was still a child.

Almost all of Peroroncino's adult experiences had faded from her memory. Although she could still remember some scattered bits, those were not important memories.

Bukubukuchagama turned and left Peroroncino's room.

Peroroncino watched Bukubukuchagama's back, feeling a sense of sadness.

"I'm not rejecting you, I just don't want to be controlled," Peroroncino said, worried that Bukubukuchagama might misunderstand.

Bukubukuchagama turned around and smiled at Peroroncino.

Peroroncino thought that smile was incredibly beautiful.

........

Renner was sent back to Nazarick by the Red-Clad Vampire Bride for resurrection.

After being revived, it was clear that Renner did not lose her memories like other NPCs; her memory was complete.

Perhaps because she was a local of this world, she didn't suffer from memory loss.

Right after her resurrection, she was called by Yuri to meet Momonga.

Renner racked her brain but couldn't figure out why Momonga wanted to see her.

According to the plan, it was not yet time to take action against the Kingdom.

Renner arrived at the great hall of Nazarick.

Momonga was sitting on the throne.

"Your Majesty, the Sorcerer King!" Renner knelt and paid her respects upon seeing Momonga.

"Rise."

Momonga looked at Renner and did not speak further.

"It seems very ordinary, without the unique aura of a smart person," Momonga thought inwardly as he observed Renner.

"May I ask if the Sorcerer King needs me to do anything?" Renner asked.

"I called you here today to test you," Momonga said, tossing a piece of paper to Renner.

Renner caught the paper.

There were three questions written on it.

The first was a classic "chickens and rabbits in the same cage" problem, a very simple question that anyone with some intelligence could answer.

The second was a challenging treasure division puzzle involving islands. This question was difficult, but answering it wasn't too hard—it just required a lot of time.

The third was an Olympiad math problem. Momonga knew that even he would need a long time to deduce and verify the answer.

Renner spent one minute reading the three questions and then thought for another minute.

"Sorcerer King, Your Majesty, I already know the answers to these questions."

"All of them?"

Renner nodded.

Momonga walked over to Renner and handed her a pen.

"Write it down on the paper."

Renner quickly wrote down all the answers.

"Truly a genius! To know the answers so effortlessly," Momonga thought to himself in admiration.

"Please write the solution process for the third question on the paper," Momonga said.

Originally, Momonga had planned to have Renner explain the process verbally, but then he feared he might not understand, which could be embarrassing.

Renner spent five minutes writing out the solution process for the third question.

Momonga stared at the paper for a long time. It wasn't that he couldn't understand what Renner wrote, but rather that it was so clear and straightforward. Anyone with a functioning mind could easily understand the solution process she had written.

"Not only is her intelligence incredibly high, but her ability to express herself is terrifying!" Momonga thought in shock.

"Someone this powerful might be better off eliminated. If she ends up standing against Nazarick in the future, that could be very troublesome," Momonga briefly considered.

"If you're worried, I can sign a slave contract with you, or even take a slow-acting poison, I am willing to accept either," Renner said, having sensed Momonga's thoughts.

Since it was Renner's first time meeting Sorcerer King, she thought Momonga had a similar personality to Peroroncino's—trusting people without suspicion.

But in this moment, Renner had fully understood Sorcerer King's personality.

The Sorcerer King was cautious and careful, or in simpler terms, timid.

"Such overwhelming power, yet still afraid of this and that," Renner thought.

"Can you read my thoughts?" Momonga asked.

"You just looked at me without speaking, so you must have been thinking about whether I could be used as a subordinate, and the most important thing for a subordinate is loyalty.

Loyalty can't just be talked about; it needs some chains to make it trustworthy."

These words were entirely fabricated by Renner on the spot. She had figured out the Sorcerer King's personality perfectly.

She simply said things that Momonga would want to hear.

Momonga thought for a moment. Since Renner could say such things, she must be loyal.

"Renner, there is a position I need to entrust to you!"

"Please go ahead," Renner replied.

"You will become the Sorcerer Kingdom's Chancellor."

Renner was stunned. This was something she never could have predicted, no matter how hard she tried to imagine it.

"Isn't this a bit sudden, Your Majesty?"

"Peroroncino told me that you have outstanding abilities. This position is perfect for you," Momonga said.

"What about the kingdom..."

"That decision is up to you, whether to reveal your identity or keep it hidden."

"Your Majesty, what kind of approach do you want to take for the development of the people? Should it be a brainwashing method, or..."

Renner's words shocked Momonga's worldview. This person even knows about brainwashing.

"Can you brainwash the people of E-Rantel?"

"Yes, I'm confident I can make them willing to die for you at any time," Renner's expression changed.

It went from innocent and pure to that of a cold, heartless creature.

"Just develop towards prosperity like a normal country."

"Next, it will be hard work for you. Everything will be handed over to you and Demiurge."

"With this, you have the authority to command the people of Nazarick. Do your best!" Momonga said as he handed Renner a badge.

Then, he was teleported to the Supreme Meeting Room in Nazarick.

Peroroncino and Bukubukuchagama were both there.

"How is Renner as a person?" Bukubukuchagama asked.

"She's incredible! She's like a monster."

"A skeleton calling a human girl a monster," Peroroncino teased.

Momonga took out the paper with Renner's answers.

"Compared to me, she's definitely a monster."

"I spent three days and nights thinking about the last question, but I couldn't figure it out. She understood it in just one minute."

Peroroncino took the paper and looked at it, clearly shocked.

Peroroncino himself had been stumped by the question, feeling like he was reading a foreign language, but after seeing Renner's solution, it all became clear.

Peroroncino handed the paper to Bukubukuchagama.

After Bukubukuchagama read it, she too had an incredulous expression.

"She really is a monster. She completely overturned my understanding of advanced mathematics." Bukubukuchagama was the smartest among the three, but she was also stunned by Renner's answer.

"Have you... been with her?" Bukubukuchagama asked Peroroncino.

Peroroncino awkwardly nodded.

"How many times?"

"About a dozen times."

"You beast, she's only 16!"
