Chapter 145: Chapter 144: Chancellor Renner
After the Sorcerer King departed, Renner used the teleportation item given to her by Peroroncino to transport herself to E-Rantel.
As for where the former Chancellor Albedo had gone, she couldn't care less.
The only things that mattered to her were herself and Climb.
Renner's current goal was singular: to grant Climb immortality. That way, Climb could remain her loyal dog forever.
Before she encountered Peroroncino, Renner had considered rewarding Climb with her body. But now, her body belonged to only one person, and that person was Peroroncino.
"To gain immortality and even be resurrected after death, with the only price being the offering of my body—what a bargain!" Renner thought back to her recent death.
Renner had never imagined that Brain would possess such immense strength. In her eyes, Brain was merely a slightly weaker individual compared to Gazef.
As for Brain, Renner didn't dwell much on taking revenge for being killed by him. At the time, she had merely been toying with the two of them.
Her demise was entirely due to her own recklessness—it was her fault for being overly careless.
Renner walked through the streets of E-Rantel, observing the city's current state.
Having been born and raised in the royal palace, Renner had never been allowed to leave, so very few people knew her face. She had no fear of being recognized in E-Rantel.
"Renner!" A voice called out from behind her.
The person even reached out to pat Renner's head.
Renner naturally hugged the person's arm.
"Master, it's been so long!" Renner said with an innocent smile.
The person standing before Renner was none other than Peroroncino.
Seeing Renner's expression, Peroroncino's heart skipped a beat.
She truly embodied the essence of innocence to the extreme.
Anyone unfamiliar with Renner would undoubtedly assume she was a pure and naive girl.
"Your acting has improved again!" Peroroncino reached out and gently touched Renner's face.
Renner naturally leaned her face into the palm of his hand.
"Master, what are you talking about? Renner doesn't quite understand!"
Her eyes seemed to radiate sincerity, as if the word itself was written within them.
It almost made Peroroncino believe her.
Renner's acting was terrifyingly convincing. If she were in the original world, an Oscar for Best Actor would undoubtedly be hers.
"I'm the one who recommended you to be the Chancellor of the Sorcerer Kingdom. Do you have confidence in taking on the role?" Peroroncino asked, gazing into Renner's eyes.
"Of course, this kind of thing can be done effortlessly," Renner replied.
Peroroncino couldn't tell whether she was speaking the truth or lying.
"You should know that the previous Chancellor was extremely busy and constantly stressed. Are you really this confident?" Peroroncino asked.
"If I'm not mistaken, the previous Chancellor didn't trust humans, right? They wouldn't let humans handle any important matters," Renner replied.
"Spot on! You've got a sharp little mind," Peroroncino said, patting Renner's head.
"Hehe!"
Renner's smile was infectious, drawing the attention of many around her.
At that moment, Renner seemed like the very embodiment of "adorable."
Many people shot jealous glances at Peroroncino.
"Even Lady Yulia, such a perfect woman, is already his, yet he's still fooling around. How infuriating!"
Someone nearby muttered in a low voice.
"I'm doing this just to make you jealous," Peroroncino said nonchalantly to the person who had spoken in a low voice.
The surrounding crowd clenched their fists in anger.
"If you want to fight, just come at me. I promise I won't fight back," Peroroncino continued to provoke the onlookers.
A burly man couldn't hold back any longer. He clenched his fists and charged at Peroroncino.
Renner stepped out from Peroroncino's embrace, moving gracefully as if she were strolling. With a deft maneuver, she sidestepped the burly man and tripped him.
The man fell flat on his face, eating dirt.
Many in the crowd had already anticipated this outcome.
After all, this wasn't the first time Peroroncino had provoked the public. And every time, Peroroncino never lifted a finger—his beautiful companions always handled the situation.
There was a time when Peroroncino, like them, could only envy others.
So now, having once been drenched by the rain, he wouldn't let others enjoy the shade of an umbrella.
The hardships he endured, others must experience too.
That intense feeling of jealousy mixed with helplessness—that was the point.
The others weren't as foolish as the burly man, letting their tempers get the better of them and charging forward.
No one in the crowd dared to speak ill of Peroroncino because anyone who had tried had ended up mute.
Peroroncino's principle was simple: fighting was acceptable, but insults were not. If someone insisted on hurling insults, he ensured they would never speak again.
The sound of barking dogs was truly annoying, after all.
At that moment, a shy young man approached Peroroncino.
"Lord Chino, may I ask when Lady Yulia will return?"
"She should still be in the Holy Kingdom. Once she finishes helping them resolve their issues, she'll return," Peroroncino replied.
"Then, may I ask roughly when that will be?" the young man asked again.
"About one or two months," Peroroncino answered without hesitation.
"Thank you!" the young man said before turning to leave.
"Another two months before I can see Lady Yulia again… how depressing," the young man muttered regretfully.
The surrounding crowd gradually dispersed—after all, staying to watch and endure this "public display of affection" was hardly enjoyable.
"Why would you bother answering such a lowly person's question?" Renner asked, puzzled by Peroroncino's behavior.
As someone who considered herself superior, Renner never interacted with those she deemed worthless. Doing so would only waste her time.
She believed that Peroroncino should share her disdain for such insignificant individuals.
If it had been her, she certainly wouldn't have given such a person the time of day.
"Because I was in a good mood, I guess," Peroroncino replied casually.
"Engaging in conversation with someone so insignificant—doesn't that waste your time?" Renner pressed, still confused.
"Getting hung up on such things all the time makes life exhausting," Peroroncino said with a shrug.
Renner still didn't understand. After all, a genius like her couldn't fathom the mindset of someone who simply went with the flow.
........
Gazef and Brain treated their wounds briefly before hurrying toward the royal capital without delay.
The fact that the deceased Renner hadn't reverted to her original form greatly surprised Gazef.
He couldn't shake the feeling that the Renner who had died was the real Renner.
Brain also noticed what Gazef was thinking. The two raced tirelessly toward the capital, exhausting many horses along the way. However, since they had plenty of soldiers with them, there were also plenty of horses, so they weren't worried about running out.
After half a day of relentless galloping, the two finally returned to the royal capital.
Their first priority upon arrival was to request an audience with Princess Renner, but they were denied by the guards.
Covered in blood—albeit their own—they looked utterly disheveled. In such a state, they wouldn't be allowed to meet any members of the royal family unless it was a matter of great urgency.
The two quickly changed into clean clothes and were then granted their audience with Renner.
"Commander Gazef, and Brain, what brings you to see me?" Renner asked, her expression tinged with a hint of curiosity.
In that instant, both Gazef and Brain had the same thought:
"Perhaps this Renner before us is a fake." But they quickly dismissed the idea, deciding they were probably overthinking it.
Such a thing was completely impossible. The princess in the royal capital being a fake, while a version stronger than both of them being the real princess?
How could something like that be true?
If the two of them had shared their thoughts with each other, perhaps they wouldn't have come to this conclusion.
But neither Gazef nor Brain voiced the sudden suspicion in their hearts.
"It's nothing important, we were just concerned for your safety, Princess," Gazef said.
"I'm fine, thank you for your concern," Renner replied.
However, the Renner before them was indeed not the real Renner—it was a Doppelganger.
