Chapter 17: Chapter 17: Teaching...
Ichiraku Ramen Shop
"I'm full—thanks for the meal!"
Might Guy stood up and said, "Kitazawa, if you still want to study taijutsu, come find me anytime."
"Sure," Kitazawa agreed without hesitation.
"I'll go meet that Rock Lee you mentioned."
Might Guy smiled as he spoke.
"See you next time," Kitazawa replied with a slight nod.
Watching Guy walk off, he wondered to himself whether he had just changed Rock Lee's destiny. If Lee started learning the Eight Gates six years early, would he still be crushed by Gaara of the Sand?
"I'm full too, Kitazawa‑sensei," Hinata Hyuga said, setting down her chopsticks. The big bowl of chashu ramen in front of her was spotless.
"One more bowl, Teuchi," Kitazawa said after glancing at her.
"For you?" Teuchi poked his head out.
"Not for me—Hinata wants it," Kitazawa replied with a smile.
"Huh?"
Teuchi instinctively looked at Hinata.
"I…"
Hinata flushed with embarrassment. She meant to refuse but didn't know how.
"Hinata."
Kitazawa reached over, pinched her cheek, and asked, "Be honest with sensei—are you full?"
"N‑no…"
Hinata's heart trembled; her face reddened.
"People really can't be judged by appearances," Teuchi muttered, then headed back to the kitchen.
Moments later, he returned with a second bowl of chashu ramen.
Under Kitazawa's gaze, Hinata blushed deeper and picked up her chopsticks. Shy as she was, her manners were impeccable—she ate elegantly.
Ten minutes later, the second bowl was gone.
"Teuchi, another one!" Kitazawa called.
Hinata pressed her lips together; the blush spread across her cheeks. It was the first time someone had discovered her hearty appetite.
"Chakra is the product of physical and spiritual energy," Kitazawa reassured her. "A good appetite is a good thing."
Just then, four lines of text floated before his eyes:
[You've uncovered your deskmate's secret. As class monitor, you should help her while keeping it confidential.]
[Current mission: Feed your deskmate Hinata Hyuga until she voluntarily reveals her secret.]
[Mission reward: Byakugan.]
[Accept?]
Kitazawa's pupils contracted.
He'd done plenty of missions, but the rewards had always been basic ninjutsu—useful boosts for an ordinary chūnin like him.
This mission was on another level entirely.
The Byakugan was priceless. On the ninja world's black market, both Sharingan and Byakugan started at tens of millions of ryō.
Because of the Caged‑Bird Seal, a full, intact pair of Byakugan could be worth as much as Asuma Sarutobi himself. Ninja eyes were plug‑and‑play; even a "normal" Byakugan meant a huge power‑up—telescopic, x‑ray, and insight all at once. If he added Gentle Fist to that, making jōnin would be a cinch.
"Hinata, eat as much as you like. Teuchi and I will keep your secret," Kitazawa said solemnly as he snapped back to reality.
"Keeping customers' secrets is basic professional ethics," Teuchi agreed with a nod.
"Thank you."
Hinata picked up her chopsticks and started on her third bowl.
Time ticked by.
In the end, she finished seven bowls—still fewer than in the original timeline, since she was younger now.
Teuchi clicked his tongue in amazement. If not for her white eyes, he'd have thought she was an Akimichi.
But as a ramen‑shop owner, he welcomed big eaters.
"Hinata, how did this morning feel?"
Leaving Ichiraku, Kitazawa and Hinata headed toward the Ninja Academy.
Hinata fell silent; she didn't know how to answer. To her, it had been the most rebellious morning ever: cutting class, climbing walls, devouring bowl after bowl of ramen. Thrilling—and liberating.
"It felt…really fun," she whispered, voice as soft as a mosquito. Kitazawa almost missed it.
They arrived at the door of Class 1‑A.
"See you next period," Kitazawa said after a pause, smiling. "Today's special training paid off—let's keep it up tomorrow."
Hinata's face burned. She nodded quickly and fled inside.
It was lunch break; many students were napping on their desks.
"Hinata?"
Ino Yamanaka looked up at the noise. "Where did you go?"
In her mind, Hinata was the model student—yet she'd become the first in class to skip.
"I… I went out with Kitazawa‑sensei," Hinata stammered.
"Kitazawa‑sensei?"
Ino straightened, curiosity piqued.
"N‑nothing big… we practiced taijutsu," Hinata mumbled, burying her head in her arms. "Good afternoon."
Ino frowned thoughtfully. Secret extra lessons? But Kitazawa didn't seem like that kind of teacher.
…
Afternoon
On the training field, Kitazawa explained kunai‑throwing technique. The targets were now moving instead of fixed—difficulty spiked. Yet for clan students like Sasuke Uchiha and Hinata Hyuga, it was still easy; they'd mastered this before entering school.
Soon the class split in two: those who hit the moving target were free to train as they liked.
Just like last time, Sasuke headed to his usual tree to practice chakra control, and Kitazawa followed.
"Hey, wanna check that out?" Ino noticed Kitazawa and Sasuke acting oddly.
"Nope," Shikamaru Nara replied, sprawled on the grass, unwilling to move.
Choji Akimichi didn't answer—he was busy with chips.
"Hinata, let's go," Ino said, grabbing her hand.
Sakura Haruno kept practicing kunai throws—she was talented for a civilian ninja but lacked early clan training.
"Eh?"
Hinata hesitated. Curiosity tugged at her, but she worried about displeasing Kitazawa.
Seeing that, Ino simply dragged her along. Soon they arrived and saw Sasuke climbing the tree.
"You two are here, so join the training," Kitazawa called when he noticed them.
"Kitazawa‑sensei," Ino said cheerfully, stepping forward. "What kind of training is this?"
Hinata glanced at Kitazawa, face rosy, eyes downcast.
"It's chakra‑control training," Kitazawa explained.
"Normally you'd learn it after graduation, but since you're both geniuses, you can try it early."
