Pokemon Adventure: New Adventure

Chapter 15: Chapter 15: Flight to Pallet Town

The morning sun shone brightly over Viridian City, casting golden light across the rooftops.

Today was the day of the festival.

Zen's eyes snapped open, filled with excitement.

He jumped out of bed, quickly putting on his best clothes, not that he had many.

Weedle, still curled up beside him, blinked sleepily.

Zen grinned.

"Weedle, we're going to Pallet Town today!"

Weedle chirped excitedly, wiggling its little body.

Zen chuckled.

"I bet you don't even understand, do you?"

Weedle kept chirping, clearly happy anyway.

After a quick breakfast, Zen waved goodbye to Miss Clara, who had already given him permission to go.

Then, he rushed out of the orphanage, ready for his first trip outside of Viridian City.

Zen arrived at the meeting point, where Rock was already waiting.

Beside him stood a tall, strong-looking man with short gray hair and a serious expression.

Zen had never met Rock's father before, but he could immediately tell where Rock got his name.

"Zen, this is my dad."

Rock gestured toward the man.

"His name is Stone."

Zen paused for a moment.

"…Rock's dad is named Stone?"

The realization hit him like a Geodude to the face.

Does that mean Rock's grandpa is named… Gravel?

Zen held back a laugh.

Instead, he politely bowed.

"Nice to meet you, Mr. Stone."

Stone nodded.

"Likewise, kid. Rock told me you're pretty good in battle. Keep training, and you'll go far."

Zen grinned.

"I will!"

Zen looked around.

He didn't see any cars or other transportation.

"…So, how are we getting to Pallet Town?" he asked.

Rock smirked.

"It's a surprise."

Zen raised an eyebrow.

Then, Stone reached for his belt, pulled out a Pokéball, and threw it into the air.

"Come on out, Pidgeot."

A large bird Pokémon appeared, its majestic wings spreading wide.

Zen stared in awe.

Before he could even process it, Stone released another Pidgeot.

"Hop on, kid," Stone said.

Zen froze.

"…Wait, we're flying there?!"

Rock grinned.

"Yup! This is gonna be awesome!"

Zen felt his stomach tighten.

Sure, flying sounded cool, but…

What if I fall?

Rock climbed onto his Pidgeot without hesitation.

Zen hesitantly clutched Weedle's Pokéball and took a deep breath.

As he climbed onto Pidgeot's back, he hugged its neck tightly.

"Don't worry," Rock said. "I've never heard of anyone falling off a Pidgeot. Or at least… I've never seen it happen."

That did not make Zen feel better.

Stone looked back at them.

"You kids ready?"

Rock pumped his fist.

"Ready, Dad!"

Zen opened his mouth.

"…Wa—WAIT!"

"Pidgeot, Fly!"

The Pidgeots took off.

Zen's stomach dropped as they soared into the sky.

"AAAAAAA!!!"

Rock, meanwhile, laughed happily.

"This is SO COOL!"

Zen gritted his teeth at first.

Then, as the initial fear faded, he slowly opened his eyes and looked around.

The view was breathtaking.

Viridian City shrunk below them, and in the distance, Zen could see the forests, the rivers, and the open fields of Kanto.

The wind rushed past him, and for the first time, he felt taste of freedom.

A wide grin spread across his face.

"THIS IS THE COOLEST THING EVER!!!"

And so, their journey to Pallet Town began.
