Pokemon Adventure: New Adventure

Chapter 21: Chapter 21: A Battle in the Park

The sun hung high over Viridian Park, casting warm rays through the swaying trees. Zen slowly walk to Vidirian pakr for another day of training with Kakuna.

As he arrive, Zen stood a few feet away from Rock and Tron, who looked like they had just finished a battle. Dirt and scuff marks covered both of them, but the winner was clear, Tron stood with a confident smirk while Rock grumbled, arms crossed.

"You won?" Zen asked, eyes flicking between them. He found it hard to believe, Rock had a Diglett, a strong Ground-type. But Tron, the kid who Voltorb last time he battle with him. If he not mistaken ground type counter electric type.

Rock opened his mouth to explain, but Tron cut him off with a smug grin. "Heh, strategy, Zen. That's why I won. Not just aome luck."

Zen raised an eyebrow. "Oh yeah? How did your Voltorb beat his Diglett?"

Tron waved a hand dismissively. "If you want to know then fight with me. Anyway, enough talk. I want to battle you, Zen!"

Zen smirked. "Fine. Let's do it."

Both of them stepped onto the grassy battlefield, their Poké Balls in hand. The atmosphere grew tense as onlookers, other kids playing in the park, gathered around to watch.

"Go, Kakuna!" Zen shouted, tossing his Poké Ball.

A burst of red light flashed, and his Kakuna materialized, its hardened purple shell gleaming, red eyes glowing ominously. The sight sent a visible chill down Tron's spine, and even the spectators murmured in surprise.

"W-what kind of Kakuna is that?" someone whispered.

Tron, regaining his composure, huffed. "heh just kakuna but diffent colour, I'll still win! Go, Weepinbell!"

With a flick of his wrist, Tron released his Weepinbell, a yellow, bell-shaped Pokémon with beady eyes and a wide, gaping mouth.

Zen's own surprise flickered for a moment. A Weepinbell? That was a mid-stage evolution, not something you'd expect from a beginner Trainer.

Tron grinned. "Surprised? I bought this Weepinbell. And it's strong! Now let's go!"

Zen was the first to act. "String Shot, now!"

Kakuna's silky white and purple threads shot out in an instant, wrapping around Weepinbell's stalk-like body.

But Tron dont notice kakuna strange purple colour and only smirked. "Doesn't matter. Vine Whip!"

Weepinbell's green vines lashed out, cutting through the String Shot like it was nothing and smacking Kakuna hard, sending it skidding back.

"Tch." Zen clenched his fist. Dont hit at all…

Tron laughed. "You really think some weak String Shot is gonna stop me?"

Zen gritted his teeth. "Kakuna, Harden!"

Kakuna's shell gleamed as its defense rose, just in time for another Vine Whip to lash out. The impact was heavy, but Kakuna barely held its ground.

"Not bad," Tron admitted, "but you still going to lose hahahaha."

Zen narrowed his eyes. I have to be smart about this… I can't win by just stalling.

The battle was just getting started.

Zen's Kakuna was unlike any other kakuna, it was tougher and stronger.Tron's Weepinbell, despite its type advantage, was struggling to keep up as zen Kakuna no longer bug/poison but rather poison/bug.

Tron's fists clenched. This isn't right! How is a Kakuna giving me this much trouble?!

"You're so stubborn, Zen!" he shouted. "Weepinbell, Vine Whip, again!"

The green vines lashed forward with force, but Kakuna didn't budge. The attack barely made a scratch on its hardened, almost rock-like shell. Instead, Weepinbell recoiled in pain, its vines stinging from the impact.

Zen smirked, noticing Tron's growing frustration. He's losing control.

"Kakuna, Harden!"

"STOP HARDENING, YOU STUPID BUG!!!" Tron roared, his face turning red with anger.

Zen ignored him. "Again. String Shot!"

Kakuna launched another spray of sticky silk, but this time, the threads glistened with a faint purple hue—poisoned threads. The battlefield was soon covered in the toxic strands, trapping Weepinbell's movements as its stalk-like legs struggled against the sticky mess.

"You crazy poison shithea—!" Tron yelled, but he had no time to finish his insult as he saw Zen going to spit more string.

Desperate, he shouted, "Vine Whip, again!"

Weepinbell swung its vines wildly, trying to land a hit. But Kakuna was now as hard as solid stone.

SMACK!

The moment Weepinbell's vines struck Kakuna, a horrible cracking sound echoed—but it wasn't Kakuna that broke.

Weepinbell recoiled in pain, its vines trembling from the sheer force of hitting such a hardened target. Its energy was draining fast, and its movements were getting sluggish.

Tron's breathing became erratic. Weepinbell was slowing down, not just from exhaustion, but from the effects of poison.

The battle dragged on, each attack from Weepinbell becoming weaker. The poison sapped its strength, and Kakuna's defense wore it down.

Finally, with one last stagger, Weepinbell collapsed onto the poisoned string, covered ground.

A heavy silence fell over the battlefield.

Tron stared in shock. He lost. To a Kakuna.

Gritting his teeth, he pulled out his wallet, grabbed stacks of Pokédollars, and threw the money at Zen before recalling Weepinbell.

"Screw you, Zen!" he barked, turning and storming away from the park, fists clenched.

Zen watched him go, then bent down, picking up the scattered bills.

"…Thanks for the money."

He smirked as he turned back to Kakuna, whose also happyly nodded back at him.

Zen pocketed the Pokédollars Tron had angrily thrown at him, then turned to see Rock approaching with an excited grin.

"Zen, that was insane!" Rock clapped a hand on his shoulder. "You actually beat Tron with just a Kakuna! That was awesome! This already second time he lose agains you hahaha"

Zen smirked. "Yeah, I guess it was." He glanced down at Kakuna, who was still resting on the ground, its purple shell gleaming in the dimming light. "Kakuna did all the work, though."

Rock nodded. "Still, it's crazy. Last time you fought Tron, he only had a Voltorb, right? Now he's got a Weepinbell? That guy's team is growing fast…"

"Yeah," Zen said, crossing his arms. "Speaking of that—how did you lose to him? You have Diglett. Ground-types are supposed to counter Electric-types, right?"

Rock scratched the back of his head, looking embarrassed. "Well… yeah, but it wasn't Voltorb this time. He used Weepinbell against me too."

Zen raised an eyebrow. "And?"

Rock sighed. "I didn't expect it to have Wrap. The moment Diglett popped up, Weepinbell's vines wrapped around him tight. And since Diglett's so small, he couldn't break free. Then Tron had Weepinbell use Vine Whip… and, uh… one hit. Diglett was out."

Zen blinked. "Wait, seriously? Just one hit?"

Rock groaned. "Yeah… it was super effective. Grass beats Ground, remember?"

Zen couldn't help but chuckle. "Man, that's rough."

Rock crossed his arms and grumbled, "Yeah, yeah, laugh it up. But hey, you still gotta be careful. If Tron's getting stronger, that means next time we see him, he might have an even stronger Pokémon."

Zen thought about that for a moment. "Yeah… first Voltorb, now Weepinbell. What's next?"

"Who knows?" Rock said with a shrug. "His dad is the richest guy in Viridian City. He can probably just buy whatever Pokémon he wants."

Zen whistled. "No wonder"

Rock laughed. "Yeah, must be nice, huh?"

They continued talking as they walked through the park, the last bits of sunlight painting the sky orange and pink. Eventually, Rock turned to Zen and asked,

"By the way, how did you train Kakuna to be that strong? It's not like Kakuna is known for being a strong pokemon."

Zen thought for a moment, then said, "I focused on making Kakuna able to turn as hard as he can, so if my opponent pokemon hit him, the one that hurt not kakuna but opponent pokemon"

Rock nodded, clearly impressed. "That actually makes a lot of sense. You're turning Kakuna into a tank."

Zen smirked. "Something like that."

They reached the point where their paths split, Rock's home was in the city, while Zen had to return to the orphanage.

Rock stretched his arms over his head. "Alright, man, I'm heading home. See you tomorrow?"

Zen nodded. "Yeah. Later, Rock."

Rock waved as he walked off, leaving Zen alone. He glanced down at Kakuna, who was resting quietly in his arms. "We're gonna keep getting stronger," he muttered.

With that, he turned and started walking back toward the orphanage.
