The morning sun peeked through the thick canopy, casting dappled patterns on the forest floor. The air was crisp, carrying the sounds of wild Pokémon stirring in the underbrush.

Zen stretched and sat up against the sturdy tree trunk.

"Kakuna, you awake?" he muttered, rubbing his eyes.

Kakuna gave a slow nod.

Sliding down the tree, Zen's stomach rumbled.

"First things first… food," he decided.

He moved carefully, scanning the ground for berries. After some searching, he spotted a bush filled with small, round, blue berries.

"Oran Berries," he muttered, plucking a handful. He took a cautious bite, sweet with a hint of tartness, refreshing.

He collected more and stored them in his bag.

As he continued walking, Zen's ears caught the faint sound of rushing water.

"A river?"

Following the noise, he soon found a clear, flowing stream. He knelt, cupped his hands, and took a sip. The cool water was refreshing.

But as he stood, a sharp buzzing made him freeze.

Just ahead, hanging from thick branches, was a massive Beedrill nest.

Zen swallowed hard.

"Yeah… let's not mess with that."

He memorized the location and backed away carefully.

As Zen moved toward his usual resting spot, a strange feeling crept over him.

He wasn't alone.

His instincts screamed at him—something was watching.

Without turning around, he whispered, "Kakuna, String Shot behind us."

Kakuna reacted instantly, shooting a sticky web into the underbrush.

A sudden rustle—followed by a high-pitched chirp—confirmed Zen's suspicion.

A small, red-shelled Pokémon tumbled out, struggling against the threads.

Zen's eyes widened.

"What… is that?"

The Pokémon had a round body, covered in a glossy red shell with black spots. It had six stubby legs, and two large, round black eyes that blinked at him in frustration.

It buzzed its small wings, trying to shake off the sticky string.

Zen frowned.

"I've never seen this thing before… It's not a Vidirian forest Pokémon, is it?"

The mysterious Pokémon chirped angrily and lunged forward.

"Harden!"

Kakuna's shell glowed, turning rock-solid just as the opponent slammed into it.

The impact barely scratched Kakuna.

Zen smirked. "You're strong, but you're not getting through Kakuna's defense that easily."

The Pokémon tried to attack again.

"String Shot!"

Kakuna fired another web, wrapping around the strange Pokémon and restricting its movements.

It buzzed furiously, wings twitching as it tried to break free.

Zen saw his chance.

He pulled out a Poké Ball and threw it.

The ball hit the Pokémon's head, popped open, and sucked it inside in a flash of red light.

It wobbled.

Once.

Twice.

Click!

Zen exhaled.

He picked up the Poké Ball, staring at it.

"What… are you?"

Pulling out the ball, he tossed it.

The Pokémon reappeared, tilting its head as it looked up at him.

Zen crouched down.

"You're definitely not from around here."

He took out a piece of his snack and offered it. The Pokémon hesitated before taking a tiny bite, then chirped happily.

Zen gave a small chuckle. "Guess that means we're good now, huh?"

Kakuna and the new Pokémon exchanged looks. Surprisingly, they seemed to get along immediately, the red-shelled Pokémon hovering around excitedly while Kakuna blinked in amusement.

As they walked back to their usual tree, the two Pokémon played together, forming an instant bond.

Zen scratched his head.

"Well, whatever you are, looks like you're part of the team now."

The sun was dipping lower, and the afternoon heat was fading.

Zen climbed up his usual resting tree, watching as his two Pokémon settled down.

He smirked.

"Looks like I just got a new friend… even if I have no idea what it is."
