Pokémon: Ash's New Journey

Chapter 87: The Symbol of Ability Badge!

"Gengar, have you locked onto its movements yet?" Ash asked, his voice steady, transmitted through the bond of Aura.

This was no ordinary Gengar—it bore the unique mutation, Soul Hand. A trait Ash had spent countless hours studying during his travels. While Gengar couldn't use this ability to physically harm others, it excelled at tracking movements, rendering techniques like Double Team and Agility ineffective.

Gengar nodded with a mischievous grin, its wide eyes glinting with confidence.

"Use Hypnosis!" Ash commanded.

Gengar's eyes emitted a hypnotic wave of energy, catching Anabel off guard.

"Hypnosis? That won't work while Metagross is using Agility!" Anabel declared. Her confidence faltered as Metagross suddenly slammed its heavy claws into the ground, immobilizing itself with a loud crack that fractured the battlefield.

"W-what?!" Anabel gasped, utterly baffled by Metagross's unexpected reaction.

"Follow up with Nightmare!" Ash instructed, seizing the moment.

Gengar's sinister grin widened as dark energy enveloped Metagross. The powerful Pokémon, trapped in a relentless slumber, began to lose energy rapidly. Despite Anabel's desperate attempts to call it awake, Metagross couldn't shake off the oppressive force.

Finally, the steel titan twitched, sensing danger as its instincts flared. It began to stir.

"Gengar, finish it with Shadow Ball!" Ash's voice rang out.

The nightmare dissipated, but Gengar wasted no time. A purple-black orb of energy formed between its hands and shot toward the groggy Metagross, striking it with explosive precision.

The battlefield erupted in a flash of dark energy. When the dust settled, Metagross lay motionless.

"Metagross is unable to battle! Gengar wins!" the referee announced.

The crowd erupted into cheers, while Anabel stood momentarily speechless. Her mighty Metagross—one of her strongest Pokémon—had been taken down in a single, decisive series of moves.

Ash couldn't help but grin as he recalled Gengar. "Great job, Gengar. That was our first real battle together, and we nailed it."

"Gengaaaar!" it cheered, giving a playful wave before vanishing back into its Poké Ball.

Anabel composed herself and sent out her final Pokémon. "Alright, you've impressed me, Ash. But let's see how you handle this! Go, Espeon!"

The sleek Psychic-type emerged gracefully, its fur shimmering under the lights.

Ash looked determined. "Pikachu, it's your turn!"

"Pikaaa!" Pikachu leapt onto the battlefield, its cheeks sparking with electricity.

"This is the first time we're combining Aura with battle strategies, Pikachu. Are you ready?"

"Pika!" it affirmed, brimming with energy.

"Espeon, use Double Team and prepare to fire Zap Cannon!" Anabel commanded.

In an instant, Espeon multiplied, creating several illusory copies of itself. The real Espeon, hidden among them, began charging a powerful electric attack.

"Pikachu, counter with Thunderbolt and clear the clones!" Ash instructed.

Pikachu unleashed a surge of electricity, striking down the false Espeons in one sweep. However, the real Espeon managed to fire Zap Cannon, narrowly grazing Pikachu and leaving a minor burn.

"This Espeon's fast," Ash muttered. "We'll need to outpace it. Pikachu, use Quick Attack to boost your speed!"

Pikachu darted across the battlefield in a blur, forcing Espeon to rely on Psychic to lift it into the air and throw it upward. Anabel's tactics were sharp, showcasing her deep bond with her Pokémon.

"Now's the chance!" Ash's eyes glinted. "Pikachu, adjust your posture midair, kick off the ceiling, and use Volt Tackle!"

Anabel's eyes widened. "What?!"

Pikachu rebounded from the ceiling with incredible speed, hurtling straight at Espeon in an electric streak. Before Espeon could react, Pikachu struck it head-on, closing the gap between them.

"Now, use Thunder!"

The arena lit up as Pikachu summoned a massive bolt of electricity, amplified by the Light Ball it carried. Espeon cried out, its body trembling as it endured the overwhelming power.

"Finish it with Iron Tail!" Ash declared.

"Pika-chuuu!" Pikachu's tail gleamed with steel energy as it spun midair, slamming into Espeon with a force that sent it flying across the battlefield, where it crashed into the wall.

The crowd gasped as the battle reached its climax, their cheers growing louder. Anabel's tactical brilliance and Ash's innovative use of Aura-based strategies had made the match an unforgettable spectacle.

"Espeon is unable to battle! Pikachu wins! The victor is challenger Ash!" the referee declared.

Ash had done it. He had defeated Anabel, the Frontier Brain of the Battle Tower, in a clean sweep.

Anabel approached Ash with a wry smile, holding a golden badge in her hand. "Ash, you've truly earned this. The Symbol of Ability is yours."

Ash took the badge, his heart swelling with pride as Pikachu jumped onto his shoulder. "Thanks, Anabel. That was a battle I'll never forget."

The crowd erupted in cheers once more, celebrating Ash's hard-earned victory.
