Pokemon: Behold the Father of All Pokemons

Chapter 81: Chapter 80: A New Batch of Pokémon and the Looming World Event

Pokémon Paradise had become the talk of the region since it opened to visitors. People traveled from distant cities just to pet Pichu and Squirtle in person. Ethan and his team at Pokémon Biotech had originally set limited hours to manage the crowds, but the surge in popularity proved to be more intense than expected.

Despite being short-staffed, Ethan recruited more helpers to handle the day-to-day operations.

In the first few weeks, many visitors wrote glowing reviews online. People praised the park's ambiance, but more importantly, they appreciated the experience: for only one hundred dollars, they could enter the park, see adorable Pokémon in their natural habitats, and perhaps cuddle a Pichu or Squirtle.

The public eagerly awaited the addition of new species to the roster, with some recalling the rumored arrival of Charmander and others joking that mysterious creatures might be on their way.

Meanwhile, back at the lab, Meowth, Hoothoot, and Bulbasaur were now about ten days old. They had been submitted to the official testing agency for evaluation. A team of auditors would arrive today, and Ethan remembered that one of them, Megan Dowe, had shown a keen interest in his Pokémons. He had a hunch that she would show up.

Sure enough, at mid-morning, the inspectors walked through the lab doors, and Megan was among them. Her face lit up when she saw Ethan in the hallway.

"Mr. Grave," she said, her voice brimming with enthusiasm, "I volunteered to lead this inspection. After the last two visits, I couldn't resist seeing what your lab had come up with this time."

Ethan greeted her with a warm handshake. "Good to see you again," he replied. "We have three new species today, named Meowth, Hoothoot and Bulbasaur. They should be enough to keep you intrigued." In reality, the new set was small, but Ethan hoped their unique abilities would pass inspection. Each Pokémon had to be proven safe for potential release and marketing.

Megan's eyes sparkled. "Only three?" She made a mock frown. "I was hoping for something bigger, so the data would be more comprehensive. No matter, we'll proceed as usual."

Ethan noted that in previous inspections, Megan had rarely found cause for alarm with the Pokémon. They were designed to be friendly to humans, even if some possessed unusual powers. Their sweet temperament alone set them apart from other genetic creatures, many of which could become aggressive or unpredictable when threatened.

He led the group down a hallway that led to a quiet observation chamber. Inside, three Pokémon awaited their moment in the spotlight. The first was Bulbasaur, a stocky, reptilian creature with pale green skin. On its back was a plump, unopened bulb that pulsed slightly whenever it inhaled. Megan approached, her eyebrows raised as she circled the Bulbasaur.

"An owl, a cat, and a... toad with a seed on its back?" She eyed the bulging green plant suspiciously. "Is this some kind of symbiosis?"

"Exactly," Ethan said, gently picking up the Bulbasaur. "We call this one a Grass and Poison type Pokemon. Although it looks like a toad, its DNA splices have given it a symbiotic seed on its back. It may flower later. Let me show you something." He tapped the side of the bulb. Two vine-like extensions slid out, gently wrapping around his arm before retracting.

Megan and her colleagues stepped back in mild alarm. "A vine growing out of the plant?"

"Think of it as an extra organ," Ethan explained. "It can be used for various maneuvers or attacks, but it's docile unless provoked. Vine Whip is the name we've given this move." The Bulbasaur let out a soft croak, seemingly proud of its vines.

Next, Ethan turned to Hoothoot, who was calmly perched on one foot despite having two. Megan leaned in for a closer look, intrigued by the one-legged stance. Ethan snapped his fingers and Hoothoot spread its wings in a small display. Megan smiled, but her expression changed when she felt an unexpected yawn. A wave of sleepiness washed over her.

"What... is that?" she murmured, fighting the sudden urge to doze off.

"This is Hoothoot's hypnosis," Ethan said, gently lifting the owl away from Megan's gaze. "It uses eye contact or certain calls to induce drowsiness. We have found that personnel who stare at Hoothoot for too long tend to nod off at random times. Powerful for a small bird, isn't it?"

Megan nodded slowly, regaining her composure. "I see. It's unusual, but not inherently dangerous, as long as it can be trained or restricted from overuse."

"Exactly," Ethan said, setting Hoothoot on a perch. "We'll set guidelines so owners know how to use this ability responsibly."

Finally, Meowth bounded forward, tail swishing, the gold coin-like ornament on his forehead gleaming under the lab lights. Ethan scooped it up, and Meowth gave a playful mew in greeting. "This is Meowth, a cat-like Pokémon that loves shiny objects and has agile limbs. It doesn't stand out much at first glance, but it's surprisingly clever, able to pick locks or steal small valuables if left unattended. We'll note that in the official report."

Megan watched Meowth with fascination. Its large eyes and upright posture made it look half domestic cat, half strange invention. "Does it have any special powers like the others?" she asked. "Or is it just cunning?"

Ethan scratched Meowth's chin. "No significant powers like hypnosis, but it can learn various quick moves. It's mostly a Normal type, so its main advantage is dexterity, so watch your jewelry around it."

After thoroughly examining each new Pokémon, Megan and her fellow inspectors completed the necessary paperwork and tests. By mid-afternoon, they wrapped up their work with satisfied smiles, obviously pleased with Ethan's latest additions. They could not publicly reveal details of their experience, but the gleam in their eyes suggested that each had been impressed.

"That's all for this round," Megan said, tucking her forms into a briefcase. "We'll finish the approval soon enough. Thank you for showing us these new creations."

"Likewise," Ethan said, escorting her to the exit.

---

Over the next week, Ethan split his time between overseeing Pokémon Paradise and monitoring developments at the lab. With the surprise appearance of Meowth, Hoothoot, and Bulbasaur, the excitement surrounding Pokémon Biotech grew.

Customers wondered if these new species would soon be appearing in the park, or if Ethan planned to further refine them before releasing them to the public.

Finally, the long-awaited approval came, giving Meowth, Hoothoot, and Bulbasaur official approval. Their gentle dispositions, combined with their remarkable powers, posed no threat to the public under normal handling and consistent guidelines. That meant that when Ethan was ready, he could add them to Pokémon Paradise, or possibly offer them for sale to qualified buyers.

But for now, he was keeping them in the lab, letting them mature a bit under controlled conditions. This would allow him to gather more data on each one's behavior, as well as confirm best feeding practices, type matches, and recommended training regimens. While Pichu and Squirtle were already crowd favorites, Ethan sensed that the new trio would attract another wave of visitors.

And just as these matters were settling down, the system in Ethan's mind flashed a subtle reminder that the "world event" was approaching. He caught a glimpse of the progress meter at the edge of his vision:

"World Event Trigger Progress: 8/10"

Only two species left to reach the threshold. According to previous hints, a massive meteor shower with special properties would manifest soon after the tenth species was born. The mention of Palkia's Gift lingered in Ethan's mind, suggesting that meteor fragments might hold the key to creating Poké Balls. When that moment came, a whole new chapter in genetic biology would begin, driven by his Pokémon.

Ethan tapped the side of an incubator, feeling an excitement in his chest. Another egg would hatch in the next few days, bringing the total to nine. He could not help but wonder: Would the world event really unfold as described, or was it just a cryptic promise from the system? Either way, he planned to be ready. A cosmic phenomenon could open up new possibilities for Pokémon Biotech.

For now, he returned to Pokémon Paradise, which continued to welcome hundreds of guests each day. The park's scheduling and rule enforcement had improved significantly after the first few scuffles. No new problems had arisen, allowing families and enthusiasts from all over the region to enjoy face-to-face encounters with Pichu and Squirtle. If all went well, he would soon introduce at least one of the new species - perhaps Bulbasaur or Hoothoot - into the live environment, giving visitors a chance to experience their special abilities.

Standing at the entrance gate, Ethan watched the next wave of visitors scan their tickets and grin with excitement. A pair of children ran ahead, squealing at the sight of Squirtle waddling near a small pond. Their parents stayed behind, carefully reading the park's posted rules. Ethan could not help but smile, pleased with how far his project had come.

"Soon," he told himself, turning his eyes to the sky as if straining to see the hidden meteorites that might soon fall to Earth. "Pokémon have already transformed the everyday experiences of so many. What happens next will be greater than any of us can imagine."
