Pokémon: Day Bringer

Chapter 54: I am getting Stronger

Morty was in his Gym, he was waiting for any new challenger, as he closed his eyes thinking he will close the Gym early today sense no one had come and if they did his assistant will tell as he got up the door to his gym swang open and there she was Casey

Morty blinke as he looked a bit confused. "Casey can um... Help you".

Casey just hups as she looked at him. "Gym battle".

Morty then looked at her as he spoke. "How many badges".

Casey just looked at him as she spoke. "No I mean, I Gym battle for the Gym league I am here for that badge".

Morty was a bit taken back as he spoke. "Has It been that long sense someone from Johto went to battle in the Gym league, so do you".

Casey just looked at as she spoke. "Yes I know the rukes, both I and the Gym leader will use 6 Pokémon each, both side cab switch out, Itean can be used, and I must win this fair and square

Morty straightened his posture, adjusting his scarf as he took in Casey's determined expression. "Alright then, Casey. If you're here to battle for the Gym League badge, I won't hold back. You seem confident, but let's see if you're ready for a real challenge."

He gestured toward the battlefield in the middle of the gym. The arena was surrounded by an eerie mist, with spectral lights casting long shadows. Morty's Gastly and Haunter murals loomed in the background, adding to the gym's haunted ambiance.

Casey took her place on one side of the field, her Pokéballs clipped to her belt. "I've trained hard for this, Morty. Don't think I'll go down easy!"

Morty smirked as he reached for his first Pokéball. "Good. I wouldn't want it any other way. Let's see if Haru's training has paid off for you."

With a flick of his wrist, Morty tossed out his first Pokémon, a Gengar materializing with a mischievous grin.

Casey grinned and grabbed one of her Pokéballs. "You're not the only one with a Ghost-type expert on your team. Let's go, Mimikyu!"

The small Pokémon appeared on the field, its ragged disguise swaying slightly as it fixed its eyes on Gengar.

Morty raised an eyebrow. "Mimikyu, huh? That's an interesting choice. Let's see if it can keep up with Gengar's tricks."

The battle began with both trainers exchanging rapid commands. Gengar started with Shadow Ball, its spectral energy streaking across the field. Mimikyu countered with Play Rough, darting through the attack and landing a hit that sent Gengar sliding back.

Morty's expression shifted to one of surprise and focus. "Impressive. But I hope you're ready for what's next."

The battle raged on, with both sides switching Pokémon and employing clever strategies. Morty's team, comprised of ghostly powerhouses like Drifblim and Mismagius, pushed Casey to her limits. But her well-trained Pokémon, including her Ampharos and Arcanine, held their ground with grit and determination.

As the battle reached its climax, it was down to Morty's ace Gengar and Casey's Pupitar.

Morty's eyes gleamed as he issued his command. "Gengar, finish this with Hypnosis! Let's shut it down!"

Casey smirked, her confidence unwavering. "Pupitar, counter with Dark Pulse! Don't let it get close!"

The two attacks clashed in a dazzling explosion of energy. When the smoke cleared, Gengar had fainted, and Pupitar stood victorious, its rocky exterior barely showing signs of wear.

Morty chuckled as he returned Gengar to its Pokéball. "Well, Casey, you've proven yourself. That was one of the best battles I've had in a long time."

He walked across the field, holding out the Fog Badge. "You've earned this. Keep that fire alive, and you might just go far in the league."

Casey took the badge, her grin wide as she held it up triumphantly. "Thanks, Morty! That was an awesome battle. I'll make sure to keep pushing myself."

Morty nodded, watching her leave with a renewed sense of hope for the future of Johto's trainers. "Haru trained her well. The league might just be in for a surprise."

Later that day, Haru was looking at Casey through the Pokémon center Videos phone

Haru just leaned back on his chair. "Where did you even get a Mimikyu, last I checked that Pokémon Alola".

Casey scratched the back of her head. "Remeber that Team Rocket base we destroyed that day with Lance".

Haru just looked at as he spoke. "Let me gess, the Mimikyu was one finthr capture Pokémon we freed, and it had been stacking you for the last few days unthle it finally came out and you captured it".

Casey blinked as she looked at him. "Wait how did".

Haru then sent a blast Aura in his house as then Yamask came out. "Because same happened to me and this Shiny Yamask".

Casey chuckled, rubbing the back of her neck. "I should have known you'd figure it out. You're always one step ahead, huh?"

Haru just gave a small smile, adjusting his posture. "I guess we both have a knack for attracting odd Pokémon, huh?"

Casey nodded. "Yeah, I didn't expect Mimikyu to just pop up like that. It's been following me for a while now, and I just thought it was curious at first. Then, one day, it just jumped right into my Pokéball."

Haru's expression softened as he looked at the shiny Yamask floating near him. "You know, I have a feeling this little guy's going to be a huge asset for you in the future. It's got that mysterious vibe about it."

Casey nodded thoughtfully, watching as the Yamask floated around the room. "Yeah, it's got this odd connection to me, like it wants to make up for something, but I'm not sure what. But hey, I can work with it."

Haru tapped the screen of his phone as he watched Casey's progress with a proud grin. "I'm just glad to see you doing well, Casey. Looks like you're one step closer to becoming a real powerhouse in the league."

Casey gave a playful wink. "You know it, Haru. I'm not stopping here. I'm going to keep pushing until I'm at the top, and I owe a lot of it to you and all the training we did together."

Haru chuckled, rubbing the back of his head. "Well, I guess I did teach you a few things, but you're the one putting it all into practice."

There was a brief pause before Haru turned serious. "Remember to be careful, though. I'm sure that Mimikyu isn't the only surprise you'll come across on your journey. Team Rocket's still out there, and they won't stop until they get what they want."

Casey's eyes narrowed. "I know, Haru. But I'm not going to let them get the best of me. We've dealt with worse."

The two shared a moment of quiet understanding before Haru spoke again.

"Just keep your guard up, alright? And don't forget, you've got the whole team behind you, including me."

Casey smiled. "I won't forget. Thanks, Haru. And next time we meet up, I'll have even more badges to show you!"

"Looking forward to it," Haru said with a grin, then paused as he looked at the Yamask again. "Just don't let any more ghost types sneak up on you, alright?"

Casey laughed, her usual playful tone returning. "No promises, but I'll try!"

The call ended, and Haru leaned back in his chair, staring out the window. With each passing day, it became clearer that his friends were all becoming stronger, more independent, and ready for the challenges ahead. He could only hope that whatever came next, they'd be ready to face it together.

James looked at Haru. "Was that Casey".

Haru looked at James as he spoke. "Yeah it was her, she got her 4th badge to enter the Gym league she only need 2 more".

Jessie then spoke from her side of the house. "You weren't lying when you said she is going to finish in 4 day's".

Haru just chuckled seeing the night sky. "These last few days have been so peaceful, just 3 more weeks before the Johto league".

Violet then looked at Haru. "Let me gess your going to win".

Haru looked back at his sister. "Yes and unlike last year, I will become Champion".

Violted looked at her brother. "Are you still holding a grudge agent's lance".

Haru went quite for a few seconds as she spoke. "It is complicated"

Violet raised an eyebrow, sensing the tension in her brother's voice. "Complicated? You don't have to tell me if you don't want to, but you know it's okay to let it out sometimes."

Haru sighed, running a hand through his hair as he stared at the stars. "I've never been the type to hold grudges, but that match... It was more than just about the title. It was about everything I had been working for up until that point, all the sacrifices I made. And Lance... He had no idea how much it meant to me. It wasn't just a game for me, but he treated it like one."

Violet nodded thoughtfully, understanding the weight of her brother's words. "I get it. But holding onto that kind of resentment isn't going to help. If you want to be the Champion, you have to put that stuff behind you and focus on the future, right?"

Haru gave a small smile, grateful for his sister's words. "Yeah, you're right. It's just... hard sometimes. But you're right. I need to let go and move forward. I can't let it hold me back."

Jessie, who had been quietly listening from the side, chimed in. "You've grown a lot, Haru. I've seen it in the way you approach things now. The old you would've let that loss eat away at you, but now you're moving forward, learning from it. You'll be ready when the time comes."

James gave a hearty nod. "Yeah, and besides, who else is gonna stop you from winning if not yourself?"

Haru smiled, feeling the warmth of his friends and family around him. "Thanks, guys. I guess you're right. I'll get past this, and I'll be ready to face whatever comes next."

Violet smirked. "Just don't get too cocky. You've still got a lot of work to do before the Johto League. But I believe in you."

Haru chuckled. "I'm not getting cocky, just determined. This time, I'm going all the way."

The room fell into a comfortable silence as everyone continued with their tasks, and Haru felt a renewed sense of purpose. The Johto League was within reach, and this time, he was determined to claim the title of Champion, not just for himself but for everyone who believed in him.

Later that night, Haru sent out Swampert, he was in his backyard, the Pokémon looked around ready then he saw his trainer

Haru patted Swampert head. "No battle this time buddy, just we have come so far that is all".

Swampert looked up at Haru, his large, expressive eyes reflecting the moonlight. He gave a small grunt, understanding that this wasn't a time for competition but a moment to appreciate the journey they'd been on. Haru could feel the bond between them, a connection forged through countless battles and hard-earned victories.

Haru sat down on the grass next to Swampert, resting his hand on his Pokémon's back. "You've grown so much since we first met. Back then, you were just a Mudkip, eager to prove yourself. Now look at you—strong, reliable, and always by my side."

Swampert let out a low, contented sound, nuzzling Haru's side as if to show his appreciation. The air was calm, and the world around them was quiet, save for the distant chirping of crickets and the soft rustling of leaves in the night breeze.

"You've always had my back," Haru continued, his voice a little quieter now. "And I'll always have yours. We've been through so much, and I know we can take on anything that comes next. Johto, the League, whatever challenges lie ahead, we'll face them together."

Swampert's tail swished, sending a gentle splash of water across the yard as he nodded, seemingly understanding the depth of Haru's words.

Haru smiled, his heart swelling with pride. "I couldn't ask for a better partner. Let's make sure we finish this journey strong."

With a final pat on Swampert's head, Haru stood up, feeling a renewed sense of determination. "Tomorrow, we train harder. We keep pushing forward. But tonight, we just enjoy this moment."

Swampert stood up too, stretching out his legs before sitting down once more beside Haru. The two of them sat there, watching the stars in silence, appreciating the peace they'd earned through their hard work.

And for that moment, there was no need for words or battles—just a quiet understanding between trainer and Pokémon, knowing that together, they could accomplish anything.

Haru then felt his hand. "But still something is missing".

Haru then remembered Staraptor, he remembers his first starter as he sighed. "Will at least he is starting trust me more, maybe tomorrow he will want to return to my team, Whitney has been saying I have been making progress with him".

Haru gazed up at the stars, his thoughts drifting to Staraptor. He remembered the days when the bond between him and his first starter Pokémon felt distant, when trust was just a flicker in the vastness of their journey together. Staraptor had always been strong, proud, and a bit stubborn, but it had taken time for Haru to prove himself as more than just a trainer—it took moments of vulnerability, persistence, and understanding.

"You're right, Swampert," Haru murmured to his trusted companion, still sitting beside him. "Staraptor's always been a little more… distant than the others. But I can see it now, he's beginning to trust me again. It's been a long road, but maybe tomorrow will be different."

Whitney's words echoed in his mind. She had always been supportive, often encouraging him when things felt uncertain, especially with Staraptor. "You're making progress," she had said, smiling warmly. "Just give it time. He'll come around when he's ready."

Haru ran a hand through his hair, a small sigh escaping his lips. "I just wish it didn't feel like I was failing him all this time…"

Swampert let out a soft growl, nudging Haru's arm with his nose as if to reassure him. Haru chuckled softly. "Yeah, I guess you're right, buddy. I haven't failed him... just... been giving him space. He's always been a fighter. I just need to show him I can be the same."

The thought of Staraptor returning to his team filled Haru with a mix of hope and apprehension. It wouldn't be easy—trust couldn't be rushed, and Staraptor needed to feel safe in his presence. But Haru was determined. He had to prove that he was the kind of trainer Staraptor could rely on. The time would come when Staraptor would choose to return to the team, but Haru knew that the choice had to come from him.

"Tomorrow, we'll work together," Haru whispered, more to himself than to Swampert. "And maybe, just maybe, we'll take the first step toward rebuilding our bond."

Swampert stood up, his tail swaying with the quiet motion of the night breeze. With a final, soft grunt, he walked around Haru, nudging him once more before sitting back down, as if signaling that it was time for rest.

Haru smiled, feeling grateful for his loyal companions, past and present. He didn't have all the answers yet, but with Swampert by his side, and the possibility of earning back Staraptor's trust, Haru knew he was ready to face whatever came next. The journey was far from over, and he was ready to walk every step of it.

"Tomorrow," Haru said quietly to the night, "we'll take that step together."

And with that, he closed his eyes, knowing that tomorrow would bring its own challenges, but also the potential for something more.
