Chapter 89: The deadly Gengar
The Night Shade began to swirl, and Gengar transformed into a menacing shadow, lunging at Charizard.
It was clear that Charizard's earlier Flamethrower had caused Gengar significant pain, which made it focus its wrath on the Charizard.
"Blissey, Dazzling Gleam!"
As the shadowy figure collided with Charizard's flames, the fire spread out, momentarily engulfing Gengar. Nurse Joy seized the opportunity, commanding Blissey to strike.
A radiant beam of light shot out, piercing the darkness and striking Gengar head-on. Under the combined assault, Gengar's dark energy faltered.
"Charizard, use Fire Blast!"
The moment Gengar reappeared, Charizard launched a fiery symbol, the flames hurtling toward the ghost Pokémon with unrelenting force.
But Gengar wasn't finished. Its red eyes flared with intensity, and the Night Shade transformed into an even darker, more ominous form, brimming with malice.
Tyson observed Gengar's growing strength. "This isn't normal…" he muttered, his brow furrowing.
Gengar's newfound power was overwhelming. With a sweep of its spectral claws, it shattered Charizard's Fire Blast mid-air. Nurse Joy quickly instructed Blissey to attack again, but Gengar retaliated with Shadow Ball, nullifying Blissey's offensive.
"Sylveon, Baby-Doll Eyes!" Tyson called out.
Sylveon leapt forward, its glowing eyes reducing Gengar's offensive momentum. But even with Sylveon's distraction, Gengar's shadowy form remained intact.
"This is bad," Tyson thought. "If we can't weaken it soon, it'll overwhelm us."
"Sylveon, use Helping Hand on Charizard!" he commanded.
The supportive light enveloped Charizard, amplifying its strength. "Charizard, use Fire Blast again, then follow up with Flare Blitz! Close the gap!"
Charizard roared, its fiery attack more intense than before. The blazing flames surged forward, forcing Gengar to defend itself. At the same time, Charizard cloaked itself in fire and charged directly at the Gengar.
Meanwhile, Blissey unleashed another Dazzling Gleam, combining efforts with Sylveon's Hyper Voice. The relentless barrage of sound and light started to wear Gengar down, but its rage only grew.
Tyson noticed something peculiar. "Gengar's strength is overwhelming, but it's not controlled. Its power is unstable…"
Indeed, Gengar was struggling to maintain its form. Its massive energy surge, while impressive, had left it vulnerable.
"Now's our chance! Everyone, attack together!" Tyson shouted.
Charizard unleashed another Fire Blast, joined by Sylveon's Hyper Voice and Blissey's Dazzling Gleam. The coordinated onslaught struck Gengar directly, shattering its shadowy aura.
The red light in Gengar's eyes dimmed, and its energy waned. Just then, Officer Jenny arrived with her Arcanine, the elite Pokémon leading the charge.
Sensing the increased danger, Gengar's gaze sharpened. It unleashed a final Dark Pulse, forcing Charizard and the others to back off. Using the distraction, Gengar vanished into the shadows, escaping before anyone could stop it.
Back in his room, Tyson pondered the battle while reviewing data on ghost-type Pokémon from his system.
"So that's what happened," he murmured after reading a detailed report.
Ghost-type Pokémon, while powerful and enigmatic, have a dangerous quirk. They possess the ability to absorb the life force of others to grow stronger. One infamous example is the Chandelure line, which burns the spirits of others as fuel.
The report explained that while this method of gaining strength can lead to rapid power surges, it often leaves ghost-types unstable and uncontrollable. This instability can cause them to act erratically or even harm themselves.
"This Gengar must have absorbed too much energy too quickly, which is why it couldn't control its newfound strength," Tyson concluded.
He decided to share this information with Nurse Joy to help the town prepare for Gengar's potential return. While ghost-types could be dangerous, Tyson Believed that with proper handling and understanding, such incidents could be mitigated.
Before sleeping, Tyson resolved to investigate further. The mystery surrounding this Gengar was just beginning, and he was determined to uncover the truth.
