"Thank you for your hard work, Kadabra. Let's head into this town and rest for a while," Tyson said, his voice filled with concern as he looked at the visibly tired Pokémon.
Kadabra gave a small nod before being returned to its Poké Ball.
As Tyson entered the town with his Sylveon, Ditto, and Primeape walking beside him, he immediately noticed the somber atmosphere. The streets were eerily quiet, the chill in the air amplifying the uneasy feeling. Even the townsfolk passing by appeared nervous, casting wary glances around.
Heading straight to the Pokémon Center, Tyson approached the counter where Nurse Joy stood. Her usual bright demeanor seemed dimmed, her movements sluggish.
"Hello, I'd like to check in for the night," Tyson said politely.
"Oh, okay. Just a moment," Nurse Joy replied, her tone distracted as she took Tyson's Pokédex to process his request.
As he waited, Tyson couldn't help but marvel again at the uncanny similarity between all Nurse Joys in the Pokémon world.
"Miss Joy," Tyson asked as she handed him the room key, "is something wrong in the town? Everyone seems on edge."
At first, Nurse Joy hesitated, but then she sighed and spoke. "Yes, we've been having trouble lately. There's a Gengar causing havoc every night. It sneaks into town and scares people. Those who are frightened by it feel drained for days afterward. Even our Pokémon Center hasn't been spared. It's been... exhausting."
She added with a hint of frustration, "We're working on a plan to get rid of it, but ghost Pokémon like Gengar are tricky. It's hard to prevent them from infiltrating."
Tyson nodded, understanding the challenge. "Thank you for the warning. If I get the chance, I'll see what I can do to handle that Gengar."
Nurse Joy gave a tired smile as Tyson took the key and headed to his room.
Once inside, Tyson used his latent psychic abilities to check the room for any hidden dangers. Though his powers were not yet strong enough for battle, they sufficed for simple tasks like scanning the area. Satisfied that the room was safe, he let out a sigh of relief.
"That Gengar is probably not too strong," Tyson mused, recalling Nurse Joy's description. "It hasn't physically harmed anyone, just scared them."
He decided not to involve Kadabra for now and instead allowed his Pokémon to rest. After several intense battles in the forest and the clash with Kuro, they needed recovery time. Charizard, Sylveon, and the others soon relaxed, enjoying a well-earned break.
As evening approached, Tyson turned on his system and began studying ghost-type Pokémon. Ghost-types were a new challenge for him, and he wanted to be prepared.
Suddenly, a notification appeared on his communicator: an alert about an elite-level presence near the town. Tyson quickly cross-referenced its location on the map. The Pokémon in question appeared to be moving through residential areas—consistent with Nurse Joy's description of Gengar's behavior.
"Charizard, Sylveon, we've got work to do," Tyson called out. "A Gengar is heading toward the Pokémon Center. Stay sharp—this is our first ghost-type battle."
Charizard roared enthusiastically, ready for action, while Sylveon gave a determined nod.
At the Pokémon Center, Nurse Joy was also preparing. "Blissey, use Sing! We need to keep the Pokémon Center safe tonight."
Blissey responded, unleashing its soothing melody, but Gengar turned invisible before the attack could land. Its crimson eyes gleamed from the shadows as it evaded effortlessly.
"Blissey, spread the attack range!" Nurse Joy ordered, but she knew the difficulty of fighting a ghost-type in the dark.
Before she could react further, a fiery blast lit up the area, cutting through the gloom.
"Flamethrower!" Tyson commanded from behind her. Charizard's flames illuminated the surroundings, striking the invisible Gengar and forcing it to reveal itself with a hiss of pain.
"Charizard, keep up the pressure! Don't let it disappear again!" Tyson instructed.
Turning to Nurse Joy, he said, "Let's work together to deal with it first. We can talk about expelling it afterward."
Nurse Joy nodded, surprised but reassured by Tyson's calm demeanor. With Blissey and Charizard combining their efforts, Gengar let out a ferocious snarl and lunged forward, its mischievous grin never fading despite the onslaught.
