Pokemon: I am a God-level Player

Chapter 97: 97. Mega Evolution

"That hot-blooded idiot! Is he looking for death?!"

Even Eddie could never have imagined that Ash would do something so reckless.

Indeed, Electabuzz was stronger than Manectric, but that didn't mean Ash could defeat him.

On the contrary, the possibility of Ash's defeat—and death—was extremely high!

And Ash himself knew this, yet he acted without hesitation.

"Riolu, go down with me and protect Ash!"

Eddie was truly moved by Ash's actions. He couldn't just stand back and watch Ash get killed.

It wasn't because Ash was the main character of their journey, but because Eddie had come to regard him as a friend he would fight alongside in life and death.

Eddie had made Ash his friend! Eddie didn't have many friends, so if anyone threatened those he cared about, they would have to face his wrath.

Riolu heard this command, nodded to show understanding, and quickly jumped down into the hole on the deck.

"Hahaha, this is truly wonderful. The bond between you two runs deep."

"To express my respect for your friendship, I will bury you together after I kill you."

Lt. Surge's words were indeed filled with admiration. It seemed even he was shocked by Ash's selfless behavior.

But admiration was just admiration. As long as they remained enemies, they still had to be eliminated.

"Originally, I ordered Electabuzz to retreat because I feared your combined strength might defeat it. Although Electabuzz can't return to my side, you've also lost your comrade who was assisting you. I've achieved my goal."

After Lt. Surge finished speaking, Tommy pulled out a bracelet from his fan.

A small stone was embedded in the bracelet, and Lt. Surge immediately slipped it onto his wrist.

"Boy, this time, no one can help you. Enjoy these final moments."

Although Lt. Surge had been humiliated several times for making such bold statements, he continued to speak confidently because with Manectric at his command, he felt invincible.

Manectric finally made its move, not to attack, but to undergo Mega Evolution! The light of evolution shone across the battlefield for the fifth time, leaving onlookers stunned.

Mega Evolution was rare, after all.

Before Eddie's reincarnation, this type of evolution wasn't widely known even among experienced trainers.

Therefore, many people were astonished to see Manectric evolving further.

Only some Trainers from the Kalos Region and other experienced Trainers knew this was a Mega Evolution.

Of course, knowing about it didn't mean they had witnessed it before.

Manectric's Mega Evolution concluded quickly. The fur all over its body transformed into lightning-shaped patterns, making it obvious to everyone that this was undoubtedly an Electric-type Pokémon.

Eddie didn't focus on Mega Manectric. Instead, he pulled out a glove from his pocket that he had prepared long ago.

Lt. Surge initially thought Eddie was planning another strategy and remained alert, but upon seeing the glove, he was stunned and suddenly realized things weren't going according to plan.

Because there was also a small stone embedded in the back of Eddie's glove. A closer inspection revealed that this stone was very similar to the one on Lt. Surge's bracelet.

"Did you think you were the only one who could Mega Evolve?"

Eddie's expression was blank. He wanted to defeat Lt. Surge as quickly as possible since he didn't know whether Ash could hold out much longer. Even though he had just sent Riolu down to protect him, Eddie was still worried.

So, he decided to use some of his trump cards now. As for the power of Viridian, he didn't need to use it against Lt. Surge. Mega Evolution would be enough.

"Show our bond, Charizard, Sceptile!"

Charizard and Sceptile roared as bursts of light emanated from them.

Yet another evolution light, and another Mega Evolution. The onlookers were already numb with surprise. Perhaps if another evolution light appeared later, they would simply respond with an "Oh."

Name: Mega Charizard X

Type: Fire + Dragon

Ability: Tough Claws (Increases the power of contact moves by 30%.)

Name: Mega Sceptile

Type: Grass + Dragon

Ability: Lightning Rod (Immune to Electric-type moves; when hit by Electric-type moves, Special Attack increases by one stage.)

Mega Charizard X's overall shape remained similar to regular Charizard, but its main color had changed to black, with blue flames blazing from its mouth to the tip of its tail. Blue, claw-like protrusions grew from the front and back of each shoulder, and small fin-like structures emerged from its back.

The insides of its wings turned dark blue, with the lower edges divided into several arc-shaped segments, and the protrusions on the wings sharpened into claw-like forms. The horn on top of its head turned blue and became extremely sharp.

The flames on its body burned blue due to increased temperature, giving it an incredibly cool and brave appearance.

As for Mega Sceptile, the changes weren't as dramatic. Its body became more robust, an X-shaped blade appeared on its chest, and its tail grew more pointed.

The reason Eddie chose Mega Charizard X instead of Mega Charizard Y was obvious—to eliminate the Flying-type attribute and reduce the damage from Electric-type attacks.

"Lt. Surge, would you kindly just admit defeat now?"

Eddie seemed confident of victory, his expression nonchalant.

Such an attitude naturally provoked Lt. Surge's anger. "You brat! Do you think you've won?! Don't be so arrogant!"

Although Lt. Surge was surprised that Eddie could also perform Mega Evolution, he still had confidence in Mega Manectric.

After all, even if both sides had Mega Evolved, the type advantage wouldn't change.

"Mega Manectric! Thunderbolt!"

Mega Manectric didn't move, but the surrounding thunderclouds quickly gathered electricity and launched a powerful attack toward Eddie. Eddie remained unmoved, standing motionless, as if he wanted to test the power of Thunderbolt.

Seeing this, Lt. Surge's expression instantly darkened. From their previous battle, he already had a general understanding of Eddie's tactics.

He knew Eddie would never do anything unless he was certain of the outcome. If he was standing there without moving, it meant he would be fine.

And the reality matched Lt. Surge's suspicion.

The Thunderbolt was clearly aimed at Eddie, but mid-trajectory, it changed course and struck Sceptile's tail instead.

That would have been acceptable, but what Lt. Surge found most infuriating was that Sceptile emerged completely unharmed. Instead, the electricity gathered within Sceptile's body, clearly becoming energy for the opponent.

"That's the Lightning Rod ability! This is really not good..."
