Pokemon: My Fate System Is Too Overpowered!!

Chapter 14: Chapter 13: Street Pokémon Showdown

After lunch, Ryuu received a message from Aoi, inviting him to go shopping.

It was still vacation, and most students weren't reckless enough to venture into the wild just yet.

Only those with desperate financial situations would risk their lives hunting wild Pokémon so early.

For Ryuu and Aoi, both from elite families, there was no need to rush.

They could afford to train in a controlled environment before heading into the wild.

---

When Ryuu arrived at the side entrance of the gym, Aoi was already there, waiting for him.

"Ryuu! Over here!"

She waved enthusiastically, her bright blue dress flowing as she moved.

Ryuu's gaze swept over her.

Today, she looked particularly stunning.

Long, silky hair.

Slender legs.

If only she had black stockings on—

Wait, stop.

Focus.

"C'mon, let's check out the battle arena," Ryuu said, reaching out and casually taking her hand.

Aoi's face turned pink, but she didn't pull away.

Instead, she silently followed beside him, sneaking shy glances at his profile.

So cool…

---

Thirty minutes later, they arrived at the largest battle arena in the city.

Ryuu had two goals for coming here:

1. Train Froakie's combat ability.

2. Look for Destiny Threads.

Most real opportunities in this world were hidden in the wild—

Or locked away in the treasure vaults of powerful families.

Finding rare opportunities in a crowded city like this was tough.

But…

The battle arena was a different story.

Many experienced Trainers who regularly explored the wild came here to hone their skills.

If he was lucky, he might come across someone with an unclaimed Destiny Thread.

While training Froakie, he could also be on the lookout for potential fate steals.

---

At the entrance, a receptionist greeted them with a warm smile.

"Would you like to sign up for a membership card?"

This was a nationally recognized Pokémon battle facility.

Every city had one of these arenas, designed specifically to help Trainers improve their skills.

The basic membership was free, but the arena also offered premium services for wealthy Trainers.

By purchasing a membership card, you could:

Request battles with Trainers of similar rank.

Access exclusive training rooms.

Gain priority scheduling for high-level matches.

Basically—

It was a VIP system for rich kids.

And Ryuu?

Was absolutely one of those rich kids.

"I'll take one."

Ryuu handed over his card without hesitation.

Aoi blinked, then quickly said, "I want one too."

She wasn't about to let Ryuu leave her behind.

The receptionist's smile widened.

Two gold card members in one day?

Her commission was going to be huge.

---

Inside the Arena

After securing their gold cards, Ryuu and Aoi walked into the battle zone.

The building was massive, with multiple floors and battlefields designed for different terrains—

Water Field.

Grass Field.

Rock Field.

It was almost identical to the anime's Pokémon League arenas.

Ryuu's eyes scanned the crowd, activating his Destiny Vision.

White, Green, Blue…

Skip. Skip. Skip.

Most of these people had average potential Pokémon—nothing worth his attention.

Even Blue-tier Destinies were mostly just Gym-level Pokémon or Evolution Stones.

Not worth the trouble.

Where's something better?

"Ryuu, do you want to battle first?"

Aoi's voice snapped him out of his thoughts.

Right.

He came here to train Froakie first.

If he kept waiting for a high-level Destiny Thread, he'd waste his entire day.

Just as he was about to step into a battle ring, a voice interrupted—

"Hey, bro! Looking for a match?"

Ryuu turned to see a teenager walking toward him.

He looked to be about the same age, clearly a high school student.

But there was something off about his approach.

He was looking at Ryuu, but every few seconds, his eyes would shift toward Aoi.

Ah.

He wasn't here for a battle—he was here for Aoi.

Ryuu smirked internally.

Well, if he wanted to impress her, he had picked the wrong opponent.

"I'm from Tokyo Second High, name's Arata."

Tokyo Second High?

That was just below Tokyo First High—the school Ryuu and Aoi attended.

Since Tokyo First High received priority access to Pokémon distributions,

Tokyo Second High students got their starters half a month earlier.

A two-week difference in training time wasn't huge—

But for weaker Trainers, it could mean a noticeable gap in strength.

Arata's confident smirk made it clear—

He thought that extra training time gave him an advantage.

But Ryuu knew better.

If anything, that gap was nothing compared to Froakie's Elite potential and the boost from the Essence of Water.

---

Aoi crossed her arms, her expression annoyed.

She already knew what kind of person Arata was.

The type who thought too highly of himself, especially around girls.

Arata was from Tokyo Second High—not Tokyo First High.

And in her eyes?

That alone meant he was not worth her time.

"You're a high school student too?" Ryuu asked casually.

"Yeah, just got my Pokémon half a month ago," Arata said proudly. "We should be evenly matched."

Ryuu snorted internally.

Evenly matched?

Not even close.

But he didn't mind putting this guy in his place.

"Sure, I'll battle," Ryuu said, stepping toward the battlefield.

Arata grinned, already pulling out his Poké Ball.

"Let's make this interesting," he added. "Loser buys the winner lunch."

Ryuu smirked.

"I hope you brought your wallet, then."

Aoi giggled.

Arata frowned.

Something told him he had just made a mistake.
