Chapter 15: Chapter 14: Froakie vs. Oddish
Ryuu stepped into the battle ring, Poké Ball in hand.
This was Froakie's second fight.
The first match against Torchic was so one-sided, it barely counted.
He hoped Arata would put up more of a fight.
After all, Tokyo Second High had decent funding.
Surely, their students wouldn't be too weak… right?
"Go, Oddish! Teach him a lesson!"
Arata threw his Poké Ball with confidence.
A small blue plant Pokémon with a leafy head landed on the battlefield.
Ryuu stared at it for a second, then sighed in disappointment.
Oddish?
Not even a starter?
He had expected at least a respectable Pokémon.
How did this guy think he could impress Aoi with just an Oddish?
He wasn't even from a wealthy family—yet he had the nerve to try and flirt with her?
Ryuu shook his head.
Absolutely pathetic.
Ryuu activated Destiny Vision, checking Oddish's stats.
[Oddish (Grass)]
Gender: Male
Level: 11 (Common)
Ability: Chlorophyll (Boosts speed in sunny weather)
Nature: Timid (+Attack, -Defense)
Moves: Absorb, Poison Powder
Potential: Elite
Huh.
Not bad, actually.
This Oddish had Elite potential, meaning it could grow into something powerful.
But right now?
It was weak.
Despite having two weeks of training advantage, it had barely reached Common level.
Meanwhile, Froakie was already on the verge of breaking into Elite level.
This battle was as good as won.
---
"Froakie, let's do this."
Ryuu tossed his Poké Ball, releasing Froakie onto the battlefield.
The blue amphibian landed gracefully, crossing its arms and smirking.
Oddish blinked in surprise.
Arata smirked.
"Grass beats Water. You're already at a disadvantage."
Aoi frowned.
She clenched her fists, nervous.
Ryuu had just received Froakie, and it was already at a type disadvantage.
Would he be okay?
A crowd started to gather around the battlefield.
"A match between beginners?"
"Should be interesting to watch!"
---
"Oddish, use Poison Powder!"
Arata made the first move.
Oddish shook its leaves, releasing a cloud of purple spores into the air.
The toxic mist slowly drifted toward Froakie.
"Froakie, Quick Attack!"
Froakie vanished in a blur, darting across the battlefield.
The Poison Powder missed completely.
Oddish looked confused.
Arata's confidence wavered.
He hadn't expected Froakie to be this fast.
Aoi's eyes lit up.
"He's so quick…!"
"Oddish, spread Poison Powder everywhere!"
Arata panicked.
Oddish rapidly shook its leaves, filling the battlefield with toxic mist.
This was a smart strategy—
Instead of aiming at Froakie, he would fill the entire area with poison!
But Ryuu wasn't worried.
"Froakie, Water Pulse!"
Froakie formed a swirling orb of water in its palms and launched it forward.
BOOM!
The shockwave from Water Pulse dispersed the poison mist instantly!
Then—
SPLASH!
Oddish got blasted off its feet, tumbling across the ground.
The audience cheered.
"Whoa! That was a perfect counter!"
"That Froakie is way stronger than normal!"
Arata's face twisted.
This wasn't going as planned.
"Oddish, get up!"
Oddish shakily stood, its tiny body trembling.
It looked barely able to stand.
Aoi exhaled in relief.
"Froakie is winning!"
Ryuu smirked.
"Let's end this. Froakie, Water Pulse!"
Froakie formed another swirling water sphere and hurled it forward.
Oddish couldn't react in time—
BOOM!
The Water Pulse hit directly, launching Oddish across the battlefield.
It slid to a stop right in front of Arata's feet.
Its eyes swirled.
Knocked out.
"Oddish is unable to battle!"
"The winner is Ryuu!"
The crowd erupted in cheers.
"If he enters the national tournament, he could go far!"
"He's insanely good for a beginner!"
Ryuu smirked.
One step closer to becoming the best.
Arata, meanwhile, was frozen.
He stared at Oddish in disbelief.
His plan had completely failed.
He was supposed to impress Aoi—
Not get humiliated in front of everyone!
Aoi, however, was beaming.
"That was amazing, Ryuu!"
She ran up to him, smiling brightly.
Ryuu chuckled.
"It was an easy win."
Then, he turned to Arata, smirking.
"You should train more."
Arata flinched.
Ryuu wasn't mocking him—
But it still felt like a slap to the face.
Arata clenched his fists.
"I won't lose next time!"
Ryuu didn't even respond.
He was already walking away with Aoi.
Arata stood there, fuming.
He had tried to steal the spotlight—
But ended up looking like a fool instead.
The only thing he had gained today?
A humiliating loss.
Meanwhile, Ryuu felt great.
Not only did Froakie win effortlessly,
But now Aoi was even more impressed with him.
It was a good day.
